Just to first say i have played thousands of hours on this game and probably played most styles, however today i saw character that i hadnt noticed before but seen thousands of times previously, the character is Ma'jhad a guard of Mad'rans khajiit caravan, i never really took any notice before but i suddenly noticed he was wearing clothes but carried a greatsword, so i thought about it for a while to work out how to do a build based on clothes and two handed, and would like some advice to see if this is possible, , i just cant seem to work it out for defence really,,, input and advice would be cool guys, , pweees

When in doubt, follow the fox.
Yeah, it just doesn't seem to go together. You can enchant the clothes for some protection. I'm a firm believer in using a few sneek perks so nobody notices you until too late! You might also engage a mage or archery follower for ranged attacks, since two-handed puts you up close and personal. To me going about without armor is skeery!

I don't think it's the smartest character choice, just 'cause defense is going to be a huge problem, but it'd be fun to try out.. so I say, just get really good at alchemy and block, really.. I don't know, I've never thought about it, and it's a strong character choice.

Another option, if you play on PC, is to get the mod that allows you to 'reinforce' clothing, gloves, hats and plain boots with Leather, Leather Strips, etc., which makes it into the equivalent of Light Armor. It benefits from the Light Armor skill tree/perks.

I have an Imperial wearing (Reinforced) Fine Clothes, (Sturdy) Fine Boots, (Thick) Gloves and carrying a Greatsword, and it's a lot of fun if only for his rather interesting look - - he's a bit like Proventus Avenicci if he left Whiterun and went adventuring.

Characters using two-handed weapons should be ending fights quickly, though. If you just cast it between each room you shouldn't have any problems. The effect flashes when it wears off anyway, so it's easy to tell when you need to replace it.

Yes :p

You'll know from all your hours on Skyrim, that anything can work if you fiddle with the playstyle and the rest enough. No armour will make sneaking easier, alteration will help you out when you do get detected, two handed weapons should mean quick fights and alchemy could be used in tough situations for healing, buffs or poisons.

I'd call that a goer!

Maybe, in addition to your restore health and magicka, you could benefit from fortify and regenerate health, right before battle. I'd say sneak with your mage armor in hand and a dagger in the other. If you're discovered, cast (casting without quiet cast will help you get discovered) and then pop into your menu. Go straight to potions and take a fortify and regen health potion, and then select your greatsword. Come out of it armored, a bit higher on health, and swinging. Until/unless you plan to do enchanting, you will want to have the elemental resistance potions handy though. There's also the Lord stone and the Mara quest, if it becomes difficult.

>>> Have you thought about sneaking ? I would use alchemy to enchant a high level sneak and that way you will have advantage.

It's all good. The dagger idea was just so you didn't run around empty-handed while waiting to cast your armor, since you can't cast with a two-handed weapon.

That would be an interesting mod, come to think of it. Something to make you rest your sword on your shoulder, supported by your weapon hand, while you cast something with your off hand, and then take a second to re-grasp and you're ready to swing again.

I've done a similar style before its great fun, my character was a travelling bard, i always used clothes and a greatsword, the way i played it was with a follower and a lot of potions, i made a lot of money with alchemy so i always had enough potions to beat any enemy eventually but i did use a lot of illusion as it fit my build and many enemies you can just calm or make the run away, invisibility ruins it though as its too easy

That'd have been really cool with a Bound Battleaxe

Commoner one second, armoured with a battleaxe the next.
