I finally am attempting to play a man. He's a Breton, named Jarvac Heraldson. Odd thing about crafting a Breton--all the other races have girl eyebrows and boy eyebrows respectively, but a Breton only has girl eyebrows available. What's up with that? It did make him look less like a Neanderthal, though, so ok. I couldn't make the Nord look less Nord like, and the Imperial always looked like he had an IQ of about 74, so a Breton he became. I don't have the Breton looking exactly like I want him to, so a visit to the Ragged Flagon may be in order but he's not bad! The girls seem to like him, anyway.

Jarvac is currently going through some self-worth issues. He doesn't fight hard enough, his weapons are the best he can afford but that isn't much, and he doesn't have enough money. He's a handyman, that's all. He likes to build, and he likes to help people. So to do all this hero stuff, well, he mainly just shrugs his shoulders and says he only does what anyone in that position would do.

BUT, LETS GET TO THE POINT!

Soon, Jarvac will need to marry. However, women just confuse him. He hasn't yet found one that makes his, um, heart flutter. So, who should he marry? More important, who SHOULDN'T he marry?

I always play the stealth guy. I have my own set of rules and limitations but I created a female orc amazon. I tried to make her as feminine as possible without making her to orcish. I really loved the orc woman in Oblivion that claimed to be a knight. Next will probably be a female hybrid archer.

I marry every playthrough. I usually play females too, and marry a guy. But I've played a male character ONCE. My excuse was that he was for my husband, but he's not really into video games (the rare situation where the wife begs her husband to play PS3 with her) so I asked him what kind of character he wanted and he said assassin. He never ended up playing him, but I made a stealthy, slightly wacko Nord and ended up marrying Muiri after that Dark Brotherhood quest. That probably isn't the direction you're taking your Breton. That's the only female I've ever married though! She's pretty and nice (if you can get past the whole "murder because they don't like me anymore" thing).

Hm...based on the character you're describing (and assuming he's only interested in the ladies), the first one I thought of was Sylgja, the miner from Shor's stone. She's well-mannered, pretty, a hard worker, cares about her family, etc. That would be my choice.

Another possibility is Camilla Valerius...the only problem I have with her as a spouse is dialogue. Every time I talk to her I get the same quest-related dialogue, and I got tired of constantly hearing, "It means so much to us to have the claw back where it belongs! Thank you." Currently I only play on PS3, so perhaps it's only a PS3 bug I'm unaware of which causes this to happen, but it's annoying o_O

And there is always Lydia. I never marry housecarls personally because it weirds me out to have them refer to me as their spouse in one breath and their thane in the next. Unless you're into that kind of thing :p Ahem....anyway...

Personality-wise Temba Wide-Arm in Ivarstead might be a good choice, but if you ask me she's as ugly as a stump. Or Ria from Jorrvaskr in Whiterun...I never married her myself but she seems nice. Granted, you have to do the whole Companions questline before you can marry her and that might not be Jarvac's thing.

Not sure if any of these ladies would be to Jarvac's liking, but I tried :D

Yeah, my son married Camilla and ended up killing her. She drove us both crazy. I'll check out Sylgja. I gotta marry soon, because I want the coin!

It's a big hammer.
Here's a left field suggestion: Borgakh the Steel Heart! She's an orc lady who doesn't want to be married off like she doesn't really matter. And she's quite the looker! If you're into large under bites and muscular green skin, of course. She may be what Jarvac needs to push himself into the direction of a strong hero.

Or if you're looking for a more...homey feel, try Ysolda. Ysolda is a popular marriage option and if you want the coin, she makes the most sense. She dreams of being a trader and when you get married, you apparently help her fulfill that wish.

What are you looking for in a wife? Someone to share in adventure? Someone who stays at home and does wifely duties? Or someone who logically makes sense as a trader to bring home the bacon while you're out fighting the good fight?

I wonder about the Shield Maiden over in Proudspire. But at any rate, what Camilla always says is on XBox as well.

As far as my char's? I always make female, even when I played WoW years ago. They're either Nord or Breton, quite petite. And with this last char I made, it seems I'm running into more female Bandits (no men at all, especially behind Whiterun). Also have seen female Bandit's and Forsworn in the same small lean-to, sleeping quite closely together.

So I wonder if my affinity to have female chars is doing something within the game? I play first and third person, depending on the situation. But when I play third, I prefer to see her walk/run than a male char.

Sorry. As my men I married Aela Lydia and my last guy is evil so no marriage for him. I was thinking about marrying Farkas but then I started searching for someone opposite of me to be a companion as well.

Camilla is Easy to marry but almost everybody said AVOID THAT CHICK.

In PC Grelka is good if that Trick work.

I have never married in Skyrim. I'm missing that Steam achiviement.

For males, some say marry deerkus. he never come home, spent life in mine and still give coins, cannot be killed. Is that true.

My son likes to play female characters too. We both decided they make more believable Dragonborn than any of those male lunks. Jordis the Sword Maiden is a possibility, but what stops me is there is no tactical advantage to marrying her since she's already "mine" there in Proudspire. Certainly a large part of the general populace is smitten with Jordis; just google her name and look at all the images! wow!

Marriage is important because of the coin. They open a store, and you ask them for your cut of the take. Sometimes that's as much as $5k!

Borgakh might just be a hoot with the kids, too. Ysolda is too wimpy for me. I need a girl with some chutzpah. I would like to have a wife that could possibly follow me if I choose. Also one with a pleasant voice. Some of those voices just rattle my bones! And, she can't have any annoying recurring lines, like Camilla's. That's about it. Oh, wait, if she was willing to dress in those sexy tavern clothes, that's a plus. :)

Sylgja seems like a decent choice for the low-esteem, working class bloke you've described. Maybe Ysolda if he prefers a city girl, and her little secret could add and interesting facet to your RP. Or one of the Dibellan Priestesses in Markarth, if he's into that sort of thing ;)

Edited to note: I began typing this response before the post noting your reasons for not selecting Ysolda.

I guess I'll have my char marry Jordis just to see how she is after marriage.

But then, Serana is with my char, delving into Dwemer ruins, slipping into caves. Good thing it's all code or there could be lots of jealousies, lol!

Rut roh, problem with Sylgja. She won't wear Tavern clothes. :p Actually she won't wear anything but miner's clothes. Other than that, she seems perfect. I don't think Jarvac wants a miner for a wife, though. He likes women in pretty dresses.

From who? 5K! I can never get more than a few hundred from any of them. It's not like I need the cash and Lover's Comfort is a load of BS. Besides, they're all lazy and boring. I'll never marry again. Maybe I'll try same-sex. At least then we'll have something to talk about.

Well, the longer you wait, the more you get (the cash I mean!) but I've gotten thousands at a time frequently at my higher levels. And, you don't think sleeping on a bedroll under the stars and waking up to Lover's comfort isn't sexy? hoo boy! I sure do!

Another downside to marrying Camilla is Faendal. I like the guy and all, but he needs to stay out of my house!

Do you have any race restrictions for your potential wife, would you be open to an Orc or Dunmer?

Bedroll? Under the Stars? Lover's Comfort? ewwwwww! At home or in an Inn or even in a coffin fine, but never outdoors. I'm not a savage. Besides, how much comfort can I be getting when my other 1/2 gets to lay down and I have to stand up to sleep for the whole night? (now that's something I wish they would have put in to SR - you lay down to sleep!)

Well, since I *become* my character, it feels a little weird. What's weirder is my male is such a typical male, too. Like, he's always so broke!
