No more stones of Barenziah for me.

Getting Prowler's Profit makes looting so ho hum! Being so wealthy takes the fun out of the game. Need something? Go into that stash of 150 flawless diamonds, or maybe take a couple of those 200 flawless Emeralds from your hallway strongbox! Open any urn and get 10 more!

No thank you. This time around, I am not picking up any unusual gems.

I've never finished that quest. Do you really have any use for money by the time you finish it?

Of course, that depends on when you finish it. You do have the funds to buy training at 25k a pop, and not worry about it. For the most part, though, you have everything you could possibly want, so the answer is no, there's no use.

Agreed. This is the first time I've gone to the trouble of collecting all the stones, and I won't be doing it again.

I've taken to reverse pickpocketing people and loading them up with gems.

It's great if you like making jewelry and albino spiders. Which I do. I do it more for the Guild than anything else.

I've had plenty of builds where I was still dirt poor by the time I got my last Stone. It all depends on your playstyle. Personally, despite the nature of the quest, I think they did a real good job implementing it. If it's approached as an afterthought once you have a bunch already, I agree, it's pretty pointless by then but if handled early and efficiently it can really bolster your build. When I know my build is gonna be leaning towards the TG, I knock that quest out as early as possible, get that Paragon displayed in the Cistern early so Mercer Frey knows his days are numbered.

A good way to kill two birds is to join the TG and get Bedlam jobs from Devin. When he sends you to a Hold for the job, steal a Stone. It satisfies the Bedlam requirements on it's own. So you can get paid 500 septims to steal the Stone and be one Stone closer to completing the quest.

The only time I tried it, there wasn't any pointers and I just got tired of it.

I had some other glitchs, was already high level, and it seems like some of them were in harder areas.

How do you backstab a Dragon?
It's funny, but I've never done it, nor do I even care about it since I really don't do TG very often, but I still, at level 46 have 17 (I think, I could be off one or two) of the gems! I just can't resist picking up the pretty pink thing when I see it. Who knows, I may find all 24 and never even go to the appraiser and just end up carrying them around forever.

Yeah, I got the list from the wiki because I would get to 21 or 22 and be at a loss, and I hated having them in my inventory when space is precious.

To me it is an exercise in learning about human nature. When wealth is so abundant, you lose motivation. I got tired of using lock pics, and would skip urns, because I was so filthy rich anyway. When you have 1000 flawless gemstones, why go for more? I'd rather stay hungry and work for my loot.

On my first ever character in Skyrim, I thought those Stones were the most awesome thing ever. Then I realized just how wrong I was.
1) you get a quest in your log that you might never, ever get rid of
2) Each stone counts separately, actually weighs something, and takes up valuable space... not to mention that they can't even be stored
3) They don't even make the reward seem all that awesome, so there's no motivation to go through with collecting them all.

I have never, ever touched a single Stone since my first character. When I do, a reload a save. No way am I getting stuck with that mission. I didn't finish it either, because it was just too much trouble.

I go for the stones in every build I do ..... It really helps me to have gold engots and all the Gems . I can then redo Smithing and get to ( smithing ) lvl 60 again really fast , for the enchant weapon perk . I do agree with ColleenG that after lvl 55 all the money does seem almost pointless. On the other hand up to lvl 25 , im so poor I can't hardly by a drink at the Bee and Barb.

On my next build im going to skip that Quest , just to see how much money I have at lvl 55 without the Gems .

Well I don't hoard stuff. I only carry/keep what I know I'm gonna use so I don't really have the excess fundage that most lug around. I usually only grab one or two items out of a chest, sometimes nothing but gold if there's nothing I need. Game runs smoother but it means I'm also more broke than most. So those packed urns are looking real good by the time I get to them.

Looking for the Snitch in Skyrim...

Oh I remeber that time, the first time you try to complete the quest. Bad memories.
I had collected about 17 stones, got the list and checked out the places I remember collecting the stones from. The best thing, I revisited all 24 places twice before I had all the gems. And I never registered the space thing until I handed over the gems and started wondering from where I, suddenly had free space.
That time onwards the quest was an on and off thing.

On my next build im going to skip that Quest , just to see how much money I have at lvl 55 without the Gems .

My current build completed the quest at about level 70. From what I remember by lvl 60, I had Proudspire, Hjerim, Breezehome and Lakeview, all of them fully furnished, and half done Windstad and about 100k gold to spare.

Now I'm wondering how the gem market is stabilized at the same price because of how much I've already sold. It should be like a diamond is about 10 gold.:D If that happens, I suppose all the ladies of Skyrim will be a lot happier than they already are.

But it is good for earning gold when at lower levels. It is of course a mine of gold. I think the quest should be with a tag like, "Best before level 25".

Sounds like you did fine Seeker , i'm for sure going to skip it next time round Tks for input . 100 k is plenty enough after buying all the homes.
