Here's what I did/been doing:

1-Running one build
2-New Save every time
3-Disable all auto-save functions
4-Let stuff I know I don't need lie (skill books that have been read and enchanted gear I know I don't really need)
5-No waiting, sleep only
6-No fast-travel (carriages only)

Haven't had a freeze up in rl weeks and have been involved in some crazy, hairyfying battles (lv 60, master) and not even a stutter. Just saying.

As a bonus, disabling all auto-save functions has had a significant effect on load screen times.

I have noticed that fast travelling without companions and outside city (Like stables) is much safier than noma lfast travelm to city.
Auto safe usually cause problem in corrupt saves. With every save different file, it easier to find not corrupted file.
In PC I use Consolecommand save nameofsafe
I usually safe indoors, it help avoiding corruption and bloating.

Once I have wo mods that conflicts. Savefile was very soon 80 MB. Removing mods, i become OK sized

Traveling light definitely helps. When I played on PS3 I noticed that the game ran extremely slowly when I was almost overencumbered. But when I got arrested and all of my stuff was removed, it ran perfectly.

That's great. I'm glad it seems to be working for someone else too. I had one close call where I started lagging big time but it was due to a giant spider trapped in a tent and smoothed out as soon as I killed it. At first I thought disabling auto-save was gonna be a total nightmare but now I actually prefer it. The game seems to flow much smoother with the saves disabled. In and out of doorways is generally much quicker. Sleep timers start immediately without that pause beforehand. It actually seems much more efficient to do a quick-save on the fly than to let the game handle it.

I created a new profile on my console, and have been playing my first character doing what you posted. I'm now 11 hours in (not in a single session), and not a single freeze. :D

Thanks for the tips. :)

I noticed that too once. I usually take everything that wasnt nailed to floor. I played PC and used mod that change carryweight (I do it for save time, because I have even take everything for Oblivion in PS3 and Fallout 3 in Xbox 360, It just take time and many travels).
When carrying stuff around 10 000, framerate take serious hit even Intel 3570k cpu, 16 GB memory and overclocked Nvidia 670 GPU.
Now I travel much lighter, still carrying much with over 500 stamina.

It help divine loot different chest and different houses. Sometimes I move all steel stuff to Riften, All Misc to HF house etc...

Iza "Hanna Hamsteri" Bell would not give up any loot without fight. It just fun show of with bazillions iron daggers with banish enchanment

I turned quick save off because my bro and I share the xbox 360. I figure I'll try some of these techniques as well. I wish I had a supped up PC, that way I probably wouldn't have any problems.

After thinking about it, I remembered that when I quicksave the game it crashes. It still saves the game, just crashes it too. I guess I'll have to stick with going through the menu every time. :p

And if anybody knows of a solution to this, please tell me (Or PM to not go off topic too much)

I've found that just doing a quick-save on the fly seems cumbersome at first, but after you factor in all the various extra pauses that auto-saves create, it's actually much more time efficient overall. I did have a freeze last night but it was the Battle for Whiterun w/ Storm Call, people on fire, poison albino spiders crawling everywhere, someone was raising zombies... it was a mess. I think I saw a bear at one point. But since I've gotten into the habit of saving and saving often, it wasn't a big deal at all.

If game crashes while or just after saving, save may become dirty.

I often wondered if a glitchy save would lead to glitchy performance. Now that you mention it, that seems to be the case.

Also, in case anyone has missed this minor detail (so easy to do in this game), you can hit X on your controller (XBox) in the Save or Load menu screens to delete old saves while in game. I was doing it the hard way at first through the Settings on the console. That sucked.
