So when should I consider myself done?

Level 52 Nord. 100 Smithing and Enchanting. Completed all major quest lines (over 140 total). Including the Deadric quests. I gave up most of my weapons/armor and am doing a search for the 24 stones purely as a Mage under the Mage stone. Thinking that might help me level up quicker. Am I about done?

You sound pretty similar to me. Level 53 Nord, just shy of 54. 100 Archery, 100 Sneak. Done all major quests. But I seem to find a decent quest every day, not just one-off "find my (x) in the cave of (y) quests," although there are plenty of those. I figure when I can go about a week without finding a decent quest, I'll be done. Still a pretty darn fun game though. Love to wander around at night with headphones on and just take it in.

I have the players guide and of right now im going through the Side quests and doing them all. Im level 65 have both armor, enchant, smit,h alchemy, sneak, speech, and a few magic on 100. Done all daedric except 1. main quest, bards, winterhold college, brother hood, and guild and all the quests regarding them after I complete the main. And I know after all that I have TONS to do before its done.

Just in time for the fiyahworks show! BOOM!
You seriously need to ask this on a forum? I dunno, play a new game?

Bad to the Dragonbone.
You're done when you decide to be done. Even if you manage to clear every dungeon, complete all quests, completely level up all skills, buy every house etc etc ... you can keep on playing and make up stuff you want to do as you go.

Is the Bards quests fixed? The wiki and the uesp said you can't get rid of the musical instruments.

Then you could be on the PC and using a delete item console command...

I actually noticed yesterday I still have the items. I completed all the quests where I had to give them the items but I still have them and cant get rid of them. It only weighs like 2 for all the items anyways so its not a big deal

Very fun game. But my God I can't believe how much time I've spent playing it. I'm nearly 40 and have never been played one of these "immersive" type games before. Keep me away from WOW! LOL
as much as wow is fun when you get to end game its just chasing gear with no real objective other than that, dont bother mate :)

WoW is all about grinding. So if you like repetitive tasks repeatedly then WoW is for you. It only gets fun when you get to lv. 30+ and you stand a (small) chance of raiding or even surviving a dust up. Everyone's lv. 50+ anyway.

Skyrim was my first Elder Scolls game and iv logged over 80 hours and am not even close to being done haha. Skyrim is so immensely deep and there is so much to explore. And I dont think I will be done ever or at least until another Elder Scrolls comes out.

I purposely skipped a lot of the major side quests knowing I would start over.

Started with a warrior, finished companions quest.

Made a thief to do the thieves guild quests.

then a mage for mage guild quests.

Now I'm back to a Paladin (mainly because my favorite playstyle)...and somehow I have to justify doing dark brotherhood questline.

Recommendation to you? Start over, and slow down...or, try a game called Two Worlds II for similar gameplay.

simple answer. whenever you want to. i know it sucks investing all that time into a character and becoming a badass. but seriously you can be done whenever you feel like your finished. apparently there is a thing in skyrim to generate enough random hey you quest to keep you going forever.

I just got to level 45 (?) and although I've completed the main quest and I think several other large(r) quests my Miscellaneous list still goes almost from the top of the screen to the bottom, I only have two of those magic masks, the head of the Thieves Guild has been waiting for me to come back after his first assignment for something like 30 levels now, the only Assassin's Guild people I've seen are the ones I've buried after they tried to execute contracts, I haven't even talked to anyone about this war that's going on, still haven't seen a werewolf nor any of the Companions since level 1, etc. And stones? What stones?

I'm actually facing the possibility of playing this game forever doing random quests because I don't have a strategy guide, don't know about most of the quests you guys are always talking about and am still too busy and having too much fun to care. I think at this point that the only thing that will supplant Skyrim as my goto for gaming will be the release of Mass Effect 3, and then the release of Bioshock Ultimate.

Following that, it would take TES 6 to close the book on TES 5 for good. Similar to how TES 5 closed the book on Oblivion, Oblivion on Morrowind, etc. So I guess I'm done when I uninstall Steam?

I'd say you're done when the fun stops for a few days. Or when the dragons actually come out of your tv to kill you. You could stop then too.

I'm never going to be done. This game is going in my vault along with Earthbound, FF7, and I'll just save you guys from the rest of my nostalgia outburst. I may stop playing for 2-3 months or maybe a year but I know that I'll be sitting on my couch, watching tv, thinking about random ideas one day and get bored. I'll waltz over to my stack of games. Pick them all up for no reason and toss them aside until the sight of one of the games stirs up memories of epicness. It shall be a grand day too.

I had this too when I finished all the quest and story lines at level 51 Imperial one handed/magic. I walked out of Windhelm thinking "now what?"
2 Minutes later I jumped off the bridge and created a stealthy dark elven archer. It was like starting a completely different game because of the huge difference in how I approached battles. Taking out entire forts and dungeons without even being noticed feels so good :D
