So travelled to whiterun...and upon entering, a young mage approached me and asked for help. I figured, sure, why not.

He wanted to learn more about wards, so he asked me to put up a ward and he'd attack me. Seemed innocent enough.

So I put up the ward, and I think he tried to attack with a dagger...I also think I didn't have the ward centered on him, so his dagger hit me. could be wrong.

none-the-less...upon swinging his dagger, Lydia smacked him in the head (AND KILLED HIM) with her mace.

It's not very often I laugh out loud playing a video game by myself...but, happened last night. What a f'ing great game.

Wards are for stopping magic...not daggers lol. He was a horrible student of the arcane arts.

Like I said, wasn't sure, happen say fast. The mage did something, and Lydia put the beat down so fast I couldn't even tell what he did. Part of the reason I laughed was the timing.

Put the ward up
He moves around
Says a few things
I'm thinking "geez, do this already, running out of magica"
He moves a little to my left
Finally makes a move (like I said, either dagger attack, or cast a spell, couldn't tell)
and BAM, he's dead...Didn't even see Lydia standing next to me

I had nearly the same thing happen to me... posted it about a week ago too:

I had something kinda similar to this happen yesterday. I exited someone's mill back onto the main map when I was approached by "Novice Mage". He wanted me to train him how to properly use wards. I agreed and cast my strongest ward and waited for him to attack.

Being that my character is a stealth/assassin type, his magicka pool is minimal. After taking the first blow from the "Novice Mage"'s fireball, he continued hitting me. My magicka pool being depleted, he kept attacking me since I couldn't get my Ward back up. My travelling partner Uthgerdt complains about the damage until finally running over to him and striking him down with the ebony warhammer she lugs around...

Poor Novice Mage.

This came up to me today also. It must be programmed in for when you have a certain illusion level. He threw fireballs at me and Lydia didn't attack him.

It was indeed a strange scene though and I didn't know what was going to happen next.
