I personally have only one favorite location I hang around In when either leveling a skill or just want to explore it a bit deeper.

First and only location would be Whiterun. It usually has clear skies, great view of the entire area outside the city and my own house.

I don't like big enclosed areas when not doing a dungeon or cave. So that's why I'm not a big fan of Windhelm. Huge walls, maze'ish set-up which isn't really appealing to me.

Idd - I prefer Whiterun, as it is rather small, and I know where everything is, another one is solitude, since I bought a mansion there :),
I dont really like riften though, always quite dull there :)

whiterun and solitude are my favorites.

whiterun because well i just know that place like the back of my hand, i've been there since level 1. plus it is almost always nice clear weather there and sunny out. solitude again because of the weather, also i sided with the imperials and so thats kinda my base now. im saving up for the mansion.

and riften is pretty decent. i like it their, mostly because im a thief.

i absolutely hate windelm, i hate it because the weather is always bad and the place is very gloomy. it just looks so bad and worn down and ghetto. plus its the stormcloaks base and i hate stormcloaks.

Whiterun is better laid out than most, Windhelm is horrid, i'm meant to be getting around to planting the gold ring (Viola's?) but clairvoyance sends me out the main door then indicates I reenter.. wth?
I don't think i've even discovered Dwemer.. unless it's that dwarven dungeon.

I hate Markarth with a passion... I really don't enjoy vertical cities. I'm starting to figure it out a bit more now, but I still get lost.

I like Whiterun, house conveniently located next to 3 vendors to unload loot, 2 more not too far away. Only thing I don't like is that the Enchanting Table can't be furnished in your own home and you have to run all the way to Dragonsreach to use it, which adds an additional irritating mapload. It probably helps that this, like most of the rest of you, is our first "city" discovered. We tend to learn this one best and end up comparing the rest of the towns to this one.

I make a lot of trips to Riften, despite multilevels to get to the Alchemist shop, it's not so bad.

I like Windhelm. It has a nice sort of atmosphere to it. Yeah, Whiterun's okay because I know everything and it was the first city that I entered, but it starts getting boring after a while.
"Do you get to the Cloud District very often? Oh, what am I saying; of course you don't."
"Do you know what's wrong with Skyrim these days? Everyone's obsessed with death!"

Yeah, so what if they are? You don't have to rant about it every time that I enter the city.

I like Riften, and Whiterun because I know where things are. I'm not crazy about Windhelm.

I'm with most of the other folks in choosing Whiterun as my favorite. I can navigate it very easily and just the way it's laid out makes it easy to find everything.

I like the idea of Markarth but I just can't seem to navigate it effectively at all. I waste so much time going up and down stairs, I don't think I've ever taken the same path to the same place twice.

Riften isn't bad to navigate, it's just so dingy-looking. It'd be nice if there was a story line to actually help clean the place up.

I don't mind the weather in Windhelm, but it's another one of those oddball places to navigate. Too much of a waste of time trying to get anything accomplished.

Solitude is fine but it's so huge, relatively speaking, that it just takes long to get from one side to the other. I get lost in my own house there :p

My favorite city is Solitude because of its look and it's overall feel to it. And it has such a cool location. When you are outside of Solitude to the southeast, it looks amazing sitting on the cliff. The Blue Palace is pretty much suspended in the air at the end of the peninsula. But, like everyone else, I seem to always gravitate towards Whiterun because of its setup and familiarity. I picked those two cities, but it's so hard to choose because each place in Skyrim has it's own feel and uniqueness. But the place I HATE the most is probably Winterhold. It is so barren and boring. The people there hate the college, but if the College wasn't there that place wouldn't even exist anymore.

The best city is either Solitude or Riverwood; Riverwood reminds me of Oblivion (Not sure why, atmosphere maybe?) And Solitude because of the look and and once you leave it's awe-inspiring. Shame the first time I went I was eaten by a Dragon!

Me too!
My favorite is probably Solitude. That place is awesome.
