Well, while I am -A- mom, I'm not everyone's mom. I would much prefer if the community completely self-censored and chose words that always made them sound like intelligent and reasonable human beings. This is what I teach my kid. Here, however, I am extremely uncomfortable telling other people precisely how to speak and washing away any words that others find distasteful. We have very specific guidelines here and have chosen not to go crazy with hard and fast rules or censorship and I do think that, by and large, we have managed to strike a palatable balance between freedom of expression combined with a sense of general decorum.

You can report this person's posts and I'll take a look at the situation.

nothing wrong with arguments, i argue all the time but i use facts to back up what i say, if you are butt hurt b/c someone won the debate then don't call the person a "troll" trolls are people like you who are just upset b/c someone is better or more wise than you.

No its not an argument with me, I've watched certain members literally argue pointless things with absolutely no facts. I just read the arguments between the two. If I have a problem with someones opinion I Let them know in posting about it not reporting. Its when they are obviously trolling for attention that I have an issue with. Not to mention I have no problems with discussion just when the person argues to argue.

I'm almost positive I know what you are talking about and you should get over it. What else are we to do on this forum? We discuss things, and if it goes to the point of an argument, so be it. Just because two members disagree and have a discussion, even a heated one, does not make them a troll and by no right does it justify being reported. Obviously if its taken too far, or too inappropriate than it should be stopped but I have yet to see that on this forum. You sound way too sensitive to be on the internet.

Just to be clear, the act of reporting a post doesn't get anyone into trouble. The act of reporting a post brings the post to my attention. You have the opportunity to leave a message in the reporting dialogue to share with me the reason you have reported the content. I do receive reports for bad behavior, obviously, but I also receive reports about sigs, moving threads, ratings questions and so forth.

If the reported material is something unduly profane or laced with personal attacks, those are against the terms of the site and I deal with them on a case by case basis. Unless it's a matter of spam or wanton attacking, first infractions are generally handled via conversation, not discipline.

I just want to be sure that we're clear on the purpose of reporting. While discipline is certainly an option when dealing with them, it is one I use as seldom as possible. Reporting is a means of communicating with me in a way that provides me with a direct link to the content in question.

You can just click on the user's name or avatar and choose "ignore", then you won't see their posts any more.

I don't believe that swearing is really that bad, honestly. No matter what insult you use, it's almost always a substitution for the original word. For instance: When a kid says heck, we all know they really mean h*ll. They're just saying h*ll but using a different word. It's really no different than saying the word but in a different language, the meaning is still there, they're just saying it using different words.

So in short, I don't believe in censorship unless there are children present, and seeing as how this website rarely has anyone really young, they should probably be more lenient on their censorship.

I'm for naughty word censorship here. People should learn to watch their language. In fact this forum taught me how to use other words to express myself rather than to use vulgarly.

 Who are you and what have you done with Raijin!?

I'm one of many Raijin's multiple personalities. I'm what you call as an "angel" aspect of Raijin. You've apparently been friends with the devil part.

I've been kicking his ass lately.
