Let me start by saying Oblivion was my first exposure to the ELS series. While I enjoyed playing it, I think it was such a new experience that I didn't fully enjoy it and definitely didn't delve as deep into it as I hope to with skyrim. I can't even honestly tell you the type of character I was in oblivion. Which brings me to my thread....

I want my first character to be one I spend lots of time with and maybe somewhere in the future play as another but I want my first to be special (insert joke here). I have played about 4 hours or so done a side quest and just roamed around. My character right now is a level 7 Nord warrior, uses single hand blades and war axes with a shield for defense and a bow for some long range attacks if needed. Light armor as well. Dude is pretty bad ass but for some reason I feel like another character is calling out to me and dying to be played...... An assasin/thief

My question to the community of vets is what do you think about switching when you have a few hours in with a good ammount of supplies/gold stored.

And

If I do switch what are some tips/hints to playing an assasin/thief build. I know there is no right or wrong way to play but playing a warrior is a little easier than the above. All tips and tricks would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks to all that read through this monter post and reply. I look forward to many more hours spent with Skyrim and this new community!

I don't think it matters and that's the beauty of the game. Play how you want, when you want, than change again in another few hours.

Tusck I have read some of your other posts as I was trolling around and I believe you play this type of character I am thinking of switching to. I know you have taken your daughter under your wing and have shown her the finer points. Care to share any tips and tricks with me? Thanks!

I just took the default.

I just wanted to play - not waste time with makeup when the dragons don't care how you look as long as you've got meat on your bones :)

Here is what I've done so far:

1. I'm using the thief stone.
2. I have focused on maxing stealth skills, then archery, then armsman. Save up your perks until you need them.
3. I have found that up to this point, I have not needed any lockpicking and pickpocketing perks.
4. Hook up with the thieves guild ASAP, for the free upgrade in armor and the ability to use a fence.
5. Steal everything from everywhere and from everyone.
6. Make sure you always have your repeatable thieves guild quests up because they are easy and profitable.

That's pretty much what I've spent my time on. I have tons of cash on hand, so I'm about to buy the $8000 house in Riften so I have a place to settledown. I've only done 2 non-thieves guild quests so far.

Just stick with your current character :p
I'm a warrior and it's really fun. You can always change what you do.

Not spending perk points until needed is the best tip. I've spent a couple here and there I wish I had back, because I realized how limited the points would be. 3 full specializations, and a handful of point left over for another tree, and that's it. Far as the character goes, yeah don't fret! Just do what you want to do! Play the warrior for a little bit, then the thief, then the ranger, then the mage, then the whatever you want! =)

I keep going back and forth with this. I think I might look to expand my warrior and not just make him limited to his war ax and sheild!

Even better! Even if you don't spend the perk points, your skill in the ability is what'll get you through the game. I don't think that a character with 100 in all skills would be in situations they couldn't get out of too often. =)
