Dave, The Quiet One.
I thought I'd start a thread on our pets we have or had, so I will start with the 2 dogs that have had a major impact on my life.
Bruiser ( 13/10/1990 - 27/7/2004 ), pictured below, was a Male Pure Cattle Dog. He was my Security Partner for 6yrs ( 1994 - 2000 ) until I was forced into an early retirement. He was also the watchdog & protector of my hobby farm.

His mother was a cross between a pure bred Red Cattle Dog & his father was a pure Blue Cattle Dog. I ended up with s dog that was pure Dynamite. Besides being a Security Partner, Watch Dog & Protector he was also a Fire Rescue Dog. I was a volunteer Fire Fighter and Bruiser & I would go into burning buildings to make sure they were empty. He was a Legend in his own right.

My 2nd dog is Shadow ( 27/10/ 1997 - ), pictured below is 14yrs & 3 months old. Shadow is a Female Pure Bred Golden Labrador & she is my constant companion. 3 years, 1 month & 1 week ago she underwent an emergency operation to save her life & I was told then that she only had 12 - 18 months to live & she is still going strong.

Yay, Pets!

I'm from Texas, and I grew up on a bit of a ranch. I raised meat pen rabbits, goats, and pigs for years, plus training horses, and keeping a veritable menagerie of other beasties. Now that I'm an adult with my own bills to pay, the animal ownership has quieted down a bit, but I still have the following:

Horses:

Prophet - This is my competition horse, Prophet, a 14 year old chestnut Thoroughbred gelding. I bought him off the racetrack when he was five years old, trained him to jump myself. We compete in three-day eventing (which is awesome, check it out!). Prophet's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he puts forth 1000% anytime I ask him, so he's pretty much worth his weight in gold.

Lea - Lea is another Thoroughbred I bought fresh off the racetrack just eight months ago. She's four years old, still a baby, and I'm pretty much doing the same thing with her that I did with Prophet. Teaching her to jump, and readying her for competition. She's a little spitfire (with alot of attitude!) but she's got the potential to really go all the way. I kind of love her for her b!tchiness. She's also a Chestnut (I guess I've got a thing for redheads!)

Carbon: Carbon is my kickbutt Pony. He's a 22 year old Section B Welsh Pony that I have owned since I was a scrawny kid of nine. This pony has done everything, and he was kind enough to take me along for the ride. He jumps, he does western trail, he pulls a carriage. Basically he's an all around BAMF. We won Horse of the Year three years in a row back in 2002 - 2005. Once I stopped competing with him, I used him to teach riding lessons to kids with learning/development disabilities, and he proved himself to be an amazing horse in that respect as well. He could sense when a child with epilepsy was about to have a siezure, and would stop and refuse to move until she had a chance to dismount. He generall knew even before the child did.

These days, Carbon is relaxing and living the retired life at my parents farm. He's still pretty spunky, and I'll take him trail riding a couple times a week, but the dude has earned his relaxation.

Dogs

Ziggy: Ziggy is my humane society rescue Shiba Inu. She's been with me about four years now, and has proven to be a remarkably helpful dog with the horses. She's smart, respectful, and fiercely loyal. I take her everywhere!

Boomerang: Boomer is technically my parents' dog, but I trained him so I'll call him mine. He's a ridiculously adorable Boston Terrier who is spoiled beyond all belief. I do not take credit for the spoiling.

We've also got some cats, a wayward duck or two, and a donkey... but this is the majority of what I consider personal "pets!"

I have had tons of pets in my life... But I'll just post the 3 cats I have now....

There is Marley. He is a 7 year old black and white short hair domesticated cat who weighs about 22 lbs. I saved him from a kill shelter. He is an ornery cat and hates everybody except me. He rubs and kisses me. Bites my wife all the time.

Then there is Diablo. He is a 3.5 year old Bombay. He is very vocal, plays fetch, and sleeps under the covers. He got his name because when he was a kitten, he had huge ears that looked like devil horns. He was dropped off at 5 weeks old in a box in front of a pet store that didn't sell cats. My sister worked there at the time, and that's how I got him.

And then there is Persephone (We just call her Sephie). She is a 3 year old Himalayan. She is a couple crayons short of a full box. She is very sweet and just wants to love with whoever. However, when you look at her, she doesn't seem all there. She is missing all her bottom teeth, so she drools a lot when she gets excited. I got her when she was about 6 months old. She darted into my apartment when I had come inside one day. Have had her ever since.

This is Gimli he has had a very interesting life He started as a Lake house rescue, his mom got runover by a weekender and we found the litter in our boat under the cover. Then we took him in he got his hip dislocated by being stepped on so we babied him and since he was gimppy we called him "Gim" for short this is his second cone as he is a scrapper, he got scratched on the left side of his face (pic right) and it developed cat scratch rot so we had it cleaned and he is in the cone till it heals he had a similar "Accident" on his side 6 months before this picture... I know what the date says but its wrong this was just 2 weeks back.

This is just after her recent try at jousting with cars. I had just moved back to help my Father and we had gone to a movie leaving her tied up in the back yard she chewed through a 1/8 cable tie out, dug under the gate and went in search of her daddy we got back from the movie and frantically searched the whole town. When at 1 am a nice family called us (luckily I had a collar on her with my number on the tag) and said she had been run over so I raced to her and then raced to our vet. She still has scars and a broken cranium above her left eye

standalone

And here she is doing her favorite thing taking the stuffing out of the nearest stuffed animal, the bear is about done and the elephant had better watch out cause he's next...
