Its a search engine.. It provides results for things.
It's so tiring seeing people repost stuff that is EVERYWHERE on the internet, yet they make a "guide" for something that is so well known and try and make some claim to fame on it.

I do understand the point of the original post. I'm moving this to the General Discussion area if anyone else wants to chime in (constructively).

You do realize by this rationale, 95% of the people who post on the internet shouldn't be posting right? That about 99% of the people of this forum (myself included) should not post... Accept the fact that like a lot in life, there are annoying things that you cannot do a damn thing about... suck it up and learn to navigate the BS the internet provides. Side note, aside from people reposting information, how do you think information becomes so well known?

Edit: Might I also add, that Google does include threads like this in the search results for Skyrim... so when I actually try to look something up (you know so I don't clutter up the forums), I get threads like this (which provide no help what-so-ever in the game) so you kinda contradict yourself there... congrats!

If people where starting to use google this forum wouldn't have a purpose.
This forum is here so other people may ask and learn about the games in question.
And google often send you here if you ask stuff about Skyrim.

From my view on the guides, guide-makers like myself find the glitches etc. by our-self, or by searching on Google, which then is formatted in an easy to read-easy to understand layout. This makes it easier for people to know what to do. All our guides also situate in one big section, so all guides are placed together which also adds to the ease.

Well said Rayven,
I understand the frustration that Squirrelhunter is expressing.
The rampant postings of tutorials and guides that are in fact the works of others.
And the repeated postings of very similar information.
Some well intentioned attemps at helping our members, some just a lack of properly searching to see if the information already exists, some blantant and out right fabrications.

My caution in this is the danger of stealing information and copyright infringement, leading to possible legal action against our beloved forums.
The hurt feelings from others over their own work overshadowed by others.
The flood of repeated information cluttering the forums.

We don't have a ethics rule here but if you know that what you are about to post is someone else's then you should not post it. Do the work yourself to find something original. There are still several guides that can be done, I know. I have researched a few and cause I have so many guides already have stopped posting to leave them for others to do. But that said I kind of love the tutorial section as a father would a child, I want to protect and nurture it. I started a post titled PurpleShew's Recommended Guides for that purpose.
To highlight quality work and get it the recognition I feel it deserves.

There is a few of us who troll about and scan the things posted for their originality. And we will kindly tell you if we find them falsified. or repeated Linking to the original work so it gets its due. Not out of spite just to keep things fair and honest. We don't need a bunch of people calling out bad works though that hurts the forum as much as anything else. I would ask that you link to me any you feel might be falsified. I'll do the research to see and as gently as possible ask the moderators to do their thing while giving the person the right to answer their questions and then take whatever steps they feel is right. We as regular members don't have the right to flame people, and shouldn't.

It's binary code. It provides results for things.

Yet they make a "search engine" from something that is so well known and try to claim fame and more importantly proprietary rights on it.

I try to make guides that are not just copied information. I'm not finished with the one I am doing now, but I don't think it falls under the copy/paste category.

We as regular members don't have the right to flame people, and shouldn't.

Maybe the truest statement I've ever read. Many people don't understand that a forum works best when everyone makes an effort to be civil regardless of their viewpoints. Flaming does not really solve anything.

I concur. Yes, Google is a tool. And there is a pant-load of information available on the internet. But if Google were the all-powerful game-guide that some people wish it were, then we would have no need for forums like these. Further, Google does not play the game and cannot offer insight or out-of-the-box solutions to potential problems that others exist. I, for one, would rather obtain playing tips from other friendly Skyrim gamers in a non-judgmental environment like our beloved forum.

The OP came here to express frustration about those who come here looking for help. Is that irony? Because I understand the point, but fail to see the logic.
