Have you met maven, up in riften? Yea sure lady
I have been playing for 90 Hours and havent decided to do the Dragonborn Questline. Im not sure i just feel as though i should save it for a rainy day. There is already soo much to explore in skyrim. I have only made it to Diplomatic Immunity. Any body else just doing the random things skyrim offers and not the main questline? I for one Love exploring. (BTW i almost made it to lvl 50 lvl 47 right now.)

I find myself entering and existing the main storyline depending on whether or not I feel as if I am properly leveled for the quest at hand. In other words, if I notice I am getting smacked around pretty good on a regular basis, I will pull off at an appropriate stopping point and just wander around, levelling up, improving my armor and gear, and enjoying the game. Then I hop back in to the main questline. Lather, rinse, repeat. So far so good... the game is made for both linear and non-linear players, and I enjoy wearing whichever hat suits me at the time.

This is one of the reasons I love Skyrim, you can do virtually what you want when you want. I'm a bit the same, only I followed the Dragonborn Quest line until the Grey Beards send you on the quest to retrieve the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller & I'm in no rush to do it.
I've done a few quests for the Jarl of Solitude so I could buy a house in Solitude & became Thane of Solitude at the same time, as well as being Thane of Whiterun & owning a house there too. I'm only level 33 & I'll probably acquire both houses and titles in Markarth & Windhelm today as well as kill dragons & find shouts.

some of the guild quests are more interesting than the main quest so it's easy to get sidetracked with them, ESP the thieve's guild! There's also so much cool stuff to do and so much to explore.

Greybeards want me to get the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Can't be bothered with it though lol-level 32 and I'm currently doing all the quests in Riften. Really enjoying the Thieves Guild atm.
Just wondering-does the game end if you finish the main storyline, or can you finish it and then go back to exploring again?

No the game doesn't end, it goes on & on for as long you want.

This is my favorite part of TES, hugely open ended, your experience in the game is what you make of it :)

I cycle through my quests one leg at a time. Either in the miscellaneous category or individual quests. I will do the first one at the bottom, or the first part of that particular quest. Then, it gets pushed to the top, and I go to the next one at the bottom. Lather, rinse, repeat.

That way, I'm always doing something different, and I don't just blow through group quests (DB, Companions, Thieves Guild, etc) in an hour.

I will also pick one city to start in and do every single quest I can find for that city before I move on to another. That includes buying a house there and becoming thane. Takes forever and I love it.

i'm not a fan of fighting mages so I avoid a lot of the quests where you have to fight them

Dragon Bourne

Long Live Paarthurnax!
I jump around too. Did finish the DB in short order and just got Chillrend and Nightingale armor, so far along with the TG as well. Have yet to join either side of the war, become a Companion or Bard or Mage.

Did notice I am seeing "Elder Dragons" now that I had never seen before. That is cool!!

Just wait until the Ancient dragons come along. They are fierce battles

tbh to me all the quest lines are pretty short compared to oblivion...REALLY short compared to morrowind...

if u focus on main questline u can easy beat it in a day or two depending on how much u play - and then u get bored....so yeh take ur time ...enjoy!

I have scale-itch... Don't ask how I got it.
I've hit 140hrs. And I've only have gotten 1 mission further than you in the main questline.

this is my first true RPG....always been a FPS guy myself, COD specifically. I never thought anything could consume my attention like CoD did...I'm glad I found Skyrim. I've invested well over 110hrs across 3 characters so far.

My highest, a lvl 44 Nordic warrior, is barely halfway thru with the Main Questline....I love exploring as well, but I dont want to do EVERYTHING with this character...I'm avoiding the Thieves Guild & Dark Brotherhood quests altogether...saving those for my High Elf Archer....then i have a Dark Elf Battlemage (i know, not an ideal archtype but i dont care) for the College of Winterhold & Bards College quests..

this game is SOOO versatile. You can literally play dozens of difffernt permutations of the same type of character. The environment is so vast and allows for hundreds of hours of playability...a great chance of pace from CoD.
