Altmers (High elves) are easily the best race in skyrim. Due to the 1.08 (or whatever it is) Altmers are 8% faster, deal 8% more damage, and take 8% less damage. As far as I know all the other races are set to 1.00. Now Im not just saying that Altmers are the best just because I am one (Signature), but only because Its a fact

I don't think there's a singular best race out of those five. But, I do dig Bretons and Dunmeri. Magic resistance and Destruction boosts, accordingly.

I'm doing a write in vote for the Argonians. They can breath underwater and that Hitskin can come in pretty handy early in the game.

It's not a fact. It's an opinion, and a misinformed opinion at that. Altmers don't do 8% more damage or take 8% less damage. That was a false assumption made by players who didn't have a proper understanding of game mechanics. It was tested and debunked a month after launch. The only difference is in movement speed which isn't a particularly compelling reason to choose a race.

Objectively there is no "best race" it's purely a matter of preference. My choices in race are purely subjective and yours are no less subjective. I don't play one particular race. I've played every race except Argonian (we'll technically I have an Argonian character but he's still in Helgen Keep :p )

Dunmer are awesome. I always think of them as volcano children. Disregarding Skyrim's race settings, dunmer are pretty well-rounded in the other games, but all races are nearly equal in Skyrim.

if i had to pick one out of what was listed i'd say Bretons.
But my personal favorite race in the ES series has always been Orcs! Those guys just look dangerous!! :cowboy:

Exactly, this frustrated me, too.

Also, how are you going to conduct a poll asking for opinions on the best race, and not include all the races in the poll?!

hmmm as far as i remember and as i read it on other forums and wiki's only the speed increases not the damage and resistance to damage... other race is 1 or 1.00X something like that except breton who has 0.9XX

I suppose I should be saying the best race depends on your favourite playstyle, but ultimately I don't think it really matters. There is nothing stopping any race from getting 100 in any damn skill you like.

Altmer happens to be my favourite race to play (I have a personal weakness for magic and elves, and that golden skin looks great with black hair). My current Altmer's primary skills are archery and sneak. Not skills Altmer are famous for or get any starting bonus for, but that character is going great. Close to level 36 with 85 in Archery, 58 in Sneak, and all the perks she's allowed in those trees. She doesn't use her racial power very much and has never ever used the fury spell Altmer start with.

Skyrim is not a game set up to punish or reward you for your racial choices once you get past level eight.

I like Imperials due to their war paint, some of them look like tattoos. Other than that, race doesn't really matter all that much to me, they kill about the same.

Mine should be obvious. However if I had to pick from the list, Imperials and Bretons stand out to me most. My least favorite is Altmer for an immature opinion really.


Their skin color looks like... Well, for lack of a better comment, they look like someone doused them in urine. The men do anyway. The females don't look as bad to me. I think it's just a skyrim thing, because in TESO, I love the high elf woman in the trailer. Than again, she's female, sooo... :x
