Barbas in Ilinalta's Deep?

I haven't been playing for very long, but I was exploring Ilinalta's Deep when Barbas interrupted and started talking to me. I hadn't seen him in there when I entered and I know that this location isn't a part of his quest so why did he find me here? Shouldn't he be outside Falkreath?
I think I talked to him much earlier in the game but either I didn't save it or I told him I would help him later. Is this like a glitch or something?

I would assume this to be a glitch, but are you certain that you didn't activate the quest back in Falkreath and had him follow you around unknowingly?

I'd double-check the quest menu to see if A Daedra's Best Friend is active. If not, then it's probably a glitch.

It must have been a glitch because I was told I just completed the quest 'find the dog outside of falkreath' and he asked me to help him with Clavicus as if I'd just started the quest. No problem for me.
