Don't understand Creation Kit Tutorials...

Greetings all, new here and interested in trying to do some of my own modding, but getting confused with the Bethesda Creation Kit, as well as their own tutorials on how to use it!

So, starting with something simple, I want to create a simple object in the game, so I go look at the Bethesda Tutorials and look at the section for "Creating/Copying an Item" ...

It states...

For this amulet, we're going to make a copy of the Elder Council Amulet that is used in the Dark Brotherhood questline. In your object window, navigate to Items -> Armor -> AmuletsandRings.

Ok!

So I'm i the Creation Kit, I go to look at the Object Window as instructed and I look through the list and I find Items, and I go and look for Armor...

Items -> Armor _.................

...and nothing?

There is no list of objects, and it just doesn't do anything at all...

In fact, there isn't anything at all, listed under anything, in the Objects Window...

So how the heck does this thing work?

Have you loaded the Skyrim.esm file? Click File -> Date, and in the new window, double click Skyrim.esm to put a cross in its box, then click okay. Wait a while for it to load, then everything should be there

Like Greg said, you're not going to see anything if you don't at least load the Skyrim.esm file. All other files depend on it, so think of it like a base file that has to be loaded before you can do anything in the CK.

Also, I'd suggest video tutorials. Speaking for myself, I know they work much better than explanations.
