Gehenna

Dazed & Confused
I don't know if heritage plays a role for me, but I will say that in customizable games I tend to make characters who look at least superficially like me (light skin, dark hair) but I do have a fascination with genetics, even fantasy genetics, so I'll go for characters who are hybrids as well. For example, my favorite Dungeons & Dragons characters are half elves, tieflings and aasimar. In that scenario characters obviously don't look like me. :p

Since we're all sharing here, I am of French, English and Cherokee descent.

I think you'll find assassins creed 3 interesting, the assassin is half cherokee.

I'm half German, half Spanish. I play mostly Bretons with the occasional high elf or Nord but I really don't think it's because of my heritage or preference at all. I just don't particularly like the other races. As for the gender thing that a few people have brought up, I play as a female on 9/10 characters purely because I like playing in third person, and it's just more fun watching a chick run around Tamriel, playing superhero/villain.

Not really. I'm pure Serbian. So I could only relate to Imperials indirectly. 17 Roman Emperors were born in what is now Serbia. And also later some Serbian lands were part of Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine) and some were vassals.

The only thing that I could culturally relate are vampires. Well word "vampire" actually derived from Serbian word "vampir /вампир". Also vampires that we know now are based on slavic folklore. Almost in every culture there are supernatural vampiric beings and older than slavic.

Anyway I always pick the race which brought me to The Elder Scrolls and that is Khajiit.

I always try to create as oriental-looking female as possible, and have - in the past - abandoned games where I am denied this option (ie: Quake4). If this is not an option, then I always choose the female character.

Luckily, most games companies recognise my needs.

yes, to some extent. I'm scandinavian and tend to roll a nord warrior axe/sword and shield. I do prefer donning full wolf armor, I just love the looks, however blades and dragonplate armor are also among my favorites.

I've roll'ed nord since morrowind, only other race I've roll'ed has been dunmer.

It's not that I (or my characters) has anything against other races, I guess I'm just not that good a roll player. I have a hard time roll'in females as well.

It has nothing to do with me beeing overly proud of my heritage, I like history in general, egyptian, greek, roman, arabic, norse, jewish etc. Every culture has it's good sides and darker sides, learning from the darker sides is what matters if we are to evolve, though I sometimes doubt that will ever happen.

Not really - I play each of my characters with a particular image in mind (morality, job/class) and I usually choose the race based on that. The only preference I have in terms of races is that I usually play humans, though I am trying to branch out a bit and have a few mer characters now, too. I think Imperials are my favorite though, because I also like Roman culture and I like their names more than Scandinavian ones.

Though If I knew what the equivalent of east Asians on Nirn are, I'd definitely choose it because I'd like to make a character that looks and acts like me, and makes choices based on what I would do in certain situations and stuff.

I wouldn't say my heritage impacts on my race. I'm Australian, and it's hard to see a Tamriel equivalent.

But I've always known my strength and weaknesses impact heavily on my RPG choices, and Skyrim is no exception. For the past eleven years I have had a condition causing extreme fatigue which has been very slow to go away and is making full time work more of a strain. I also value intelligence, and worked very hard at school and university and TAFE, getting high marks. I even won an award for getting in the top 2% one year.

A person with a weak, unreliable body and strong, clever mind? Of course I'm going to go for a magic user, who is deeply powerful because of intelligence, every single time. I just adore the Altmer. I've create Altmer characters about five times more often than any other race. The ones I haven't tried are invariably the ones with combat helpful racial effects.

A little, perhaps. My favorite race to play is Nords, and I've got somewhat of a Nordic heritage myself (Swedish, with a little Scottish, English, and German).

I feel most at home in Skyrim and really connect with my character when I'm playing a Nord. But I have a keen interest in Norse history and mythology as well, so that would probably make me partial to Nords even without the genetic similarities :p

I love Bosmer, Dunmer, and Khajiit almost as much, though, so it doesn't always matter.

Well, Mer races seem to have more asiatic style... if you go through male hairstyles there is one or two which looks like Japanese or Koreans used to have. I think it's called topknot, but I'm not sure. Also Orc armor looks like Samurai armor.

Once I made an Orc with white hairstyle I mention before and facial hair. He looked like grey japanese samurai. I don't know how you feel about Japanese but it looked asian. ^^

My character has pigtails, as the guards will do just about anything to a cute Oriental with pigtails.

Sorry, I meant 'for', not 'to'. Or did I??!

I am mostly Ukraine with some English and German. I normally play khajiits, my first non-khajiit is a bosmer which I am enjoying. But I really like khajiits best. Now my bosmer I did make with fair skin and blond hair, which I normally do with human type characters. But I do normally pick beast races if I have a choice.

Well I'm Swedish, and I have some Finnish in me as well, so does it impact my choice of race? Yes, I do play as a nord most of the time, viking ffs :D Nah, but seriously, I do play as a nord 90% of the time, I dunno why, it just feels right :p

I am of a Swedish/Irish/Russian Heritage. When I first got the game oh so long ago, I had a preference towards the Nords. Due to the fact that they were as close as you could get to Vikings. I also see a bit of Norse mythology in the game. Aedra / Deadre, Aesir / Vanier. Soverngaurd/Valhalla. I can say for the most part have played Nord characters due to this. I have almost religiously sided with the Stormcloaks against the empire to reflect the "Raids" For those that do not know the Vikings were a fairly peaceful people until the Catholic church placed trade embargoes on the Norse people, plunging them into poverty forcing them to take what they needed. Having said all that I have played other races, mainly Dunmer and Breton. Depending on what I wanted out of that play through. In the game I happen to be very racist as I can not stand Altmer, and attack them on sight. With one of my Nords it was a hobby to kill them in new creative ways. I suppose to an extent my heritage does affect my choice, but If I want to play as a mage (rare occasion that is) I will pick a different race.

Totally! I was raised in the summerset isles but then kidnapped and taken down in Blackreach for years. I destroyed the dragon that tortured me and escaped. I returned to the summerset isles and Akatosh game me the gift of being Dragonborn. Currently I am planning taking a trip to the imperial city.

Well, my dad is a lizard and my mom is a cat, so I usually play a Breton, obviously.

Well I'm English but I have Romani Gypsy blood running through my veins and I'm planning on making a gypsy like/traveler character. I play on the PS3 and I don't have any mods to make this type of roleplay easy for me, so I'm guessing I should just be a Kitty and go with the caravans. But that's a little boring... =/
