How do you backstab a Dragon?
Alchemy ingredients. I have HUNDREDS of them that are either on my person or stored at my house, but I never use them for anything. Their sole purpose is to simply weigh me down or sit and collect dust, it seems. I *think* I'm going to need the ingredient/herb for something sometime, so I obtain it, store it, then promptly forget it ever existed.
I do the same thing, but, after about 20th level, every few days I decided to just spend some time making potions. Of course now I have so many potions that I could open an apothacery in very single city & town in Skyrim and never run out. Sheesh... Of course I do love my invisibility potions. They're are awesome for escape. You know...leave the horse by the bridge, assassinate the Imperial Courier in the Inn, kill the Redguard, drink a potion and run to the horse. Easy peesey... Oddly, Ingrid can see me when I'm sneaking and when I'm invisible? Boy she's got good eyes.

After reading this thread I have a strange urge to collect as many cabbages as I can and just fill a room with them because who doesn't love cabbages nobody that's who
Mmmm... Corned Beef & Cabbage... Pork & saurkraut... Coleslaw... Now I wanna go to my local Deli! Thanks! Lunch ideas...

Karen - Gah, forgot about soul gems! Though I'm not quite as hoard-y about them as ingredients because I actually use them, I still tend to pick up every one I see as long as they're the common soul gems and up. Good reminder! :)

Gehenna

Dazed & Confused
I hoard all the unique items I get my hands on with the exception of some that just use regular meshes because I can always enchant something better and name it the same.

I have to have 1 copy and only 1 copy of every book I run across.

Like most of you I hoard things that are useful like food, alchemy ingredients, potions or soul gems, but I have mods that let me combine some items into more powerful versions. I play a magic user 99% of the time, so I tend to get rid of potions unless they are health, magic, or that insanely powerful jarrin root poison.

If modded armors with unique meshes count, I hoard those too. One of the first things I like to do is get my smithing to 100, but that's because it lets me get access to my modded armors without having to remember their names to get them through the console.

Riften Guard

Bad Thief
I always pick up arrows. All of them. Doesn't matter what character I play. Arrows. I don't want to be that guy but, I think it's because when I pick arrows up.... That's one less having the chance to hit me in the knee.

Khasrin

Fusozayiit
Ingredients, even if I have no intention of my character using alchemy very much. It's a compulsion now. Mushrooms are the hardest for me to pass up, even if I have a stupid number of them already....I can't leave them behind. No joke, I've dumped a weapon or piece of armor once or twice just to pick up extra mushrooms.

*hangs head in shame* I have a problem.

My boyfriend: "What the hell?? You've already got 50 Mora Tapinella....and 30 Blisterworts...and 40 White Caps..."
Me: "Shut up."

Oh yes! I do the same - I'm always carrying over 1K ebony arrows at a time. Of course there's no way I'll ever use them and I have to buy them every time they show up as available at any vendor, but, at least I'll never run out. :)

arrows do come in handy, like if your an archer or if you see something you really want at a vendor but are short on gold...selling arrows can make some quick coin....thats one reason i farm dwemer ruins, i usualy get about 100 dwemer ingots and that means 2400 arrows but im also an archer on one of my character so i hoard arrows lol all kinds.
another hoarding weakness i have is the shiny gems, in one of houses the storage room floor is covered in them lol I have 150 hours on that character lol....lots of shiny on the floor, and if lydia knows what's good for she will not touch them!

There isn't a fletcher option in the vanilla game, does that become available (make your own arrows) in one of the DLC's? I'm looking forward to it then. It will feed my obsession. Maybe I can carry 10K arrows!

You are right though that arrows are great early on to make some bucks. I at 1 or 2 septim per, I would collect all the ancient nord, steel and iron arrows I could get my hands on and often make upwards of 500 per sale. Cool!

oh yeah in the dawnguard dlc you can craft arrows, plus dragon arrows those fetch a i think 10 coins each, not sure i would have to make some and see, i know iron arrows are worthless unless u invest perks into speech, dwarven arrows are i think 2 gold each though i could be mistaken

I think you're right on the dwarven. I still get 1 a piece on most of the others (although iron arrows can be iffy). Looking forward to downloading the DLC's once I have my net back up on Tuesday after my move. Something to look forward to.

i am an ultimate hoarder, i have a chest for just alchemy items. i was wondering once how much i had so i looked at my weight before i unloaded it. It has over 500 lbs of items. The chest for potions (1000+ lbs) I have a wardrobe with all my outfits (300+lbs). Chests with each type of armor. A safe for each type of gem. A safe for rings, a safe for necklaces, a safe for circlets. A chest for smithing items.
I carry on me over 3000 steel crossbow bolt (that i don't even use), around 2000 dwarven bolts (again that i don't use), about 300 - 500 of each of the special bolts. and countless arrows.

I collect skill books. As a matter of fact, I've been meaning to go on a personal quest to collect every skill book in Skyrim, but I've been too busy playing Halo Reach.

I think imma go do that right now.

Those are for a Thieves Guild quest. There's 24 of them. (Just in case you didn't know. If you did, then ignore this post. :D )
Thank you! Just wondering. I do have a lot of them already. Haven't done the Thieves line. I really don't want to.

Alchemy ingredients even though I never make potions.
Jewelry because it's all so nice and shiny and I simply must have it all!

And of course, books. I collected one copy of every single book available in the game on my xbox version of Skyrim, it wasn't easy but I just had to do it so I could build a library in one of my hearthfire mansions and fill them with the books :D

LotusEater

I brake for blue butterflies
Things I hoard... (and will go out of my way to grab)

Books, single copies
Black soul gems
Ebony ore, iron ore, silver ore (in fact, I have an AN Pick Axe on hand always, so any ore really)
Daedra Hearts
Mammoth tusks (I line both sides of the steps in Severin Manor with them)
Torches
Never saw a body of water that I wouldn't jump into for fishies
Any quest item that is utterly useless upon quest completion
Anything and everything Dwemer
Stalhrim (DB)
Glow dust (all poison ingredients really, but this one seems to elude me so I'm always afraid to use it all up)
Pelts
Cool looking potion bottles (I'm partial to poison bottles)
Circlets
Creep Cluster in the wild (no idea why, not even one of my favorite poison ingredients)
