Just sat myself down a few days ago to start a new playthrough, now that PS3 has access to the DLC, and I've been thinking to myself -- now that I understand the game better, what should I do with it? My previous characters, as the sig implies, were a very fighty dual-wield/light armor/bow Dunmer thief and a Destruction-Conjuration based mage. I also have a sword-and-shield-and-heavy-armor warrior, but he has an Alduin-skin rug now, so he's retired. I was thinking of playing the game again, and I want to try something new. Are there any interesting builds people would like to recommend?

Also, I was wondering if anyone could point me to some good guides for enchanting/alchemy. Smithing seems fairly straightforward -- just make iron daggers until your fingers are numb, spend points as appropriate -- but Alchemy seems terrifically tedious to do, to the point that I would rather just pay shopkeepers to do it for me, and enchanting seems ridiculously expensive or time-consuming. Is there any way to put some zip in them?

Nightblade: Classic.

Light Armor, 1H, Destruction, Illusion, Alteration, Alchemy. The latter can increase Destruction Damage when you get to higher level. Magic Assassin with a minor in Spellsword, in open battle, use your Mobility, Destruction, and Sword to Zot, then Critical Charge so you start the fight with a good dent. Switch to a Dagger, and Invisibility to creep up undetected, and cut some throats. I've got a full build, and itinerary if that's what you decide to do. Sounds like you're pretty light on the Magic so far, and this is the best way to ease into it from where you been. Definitely don't want to dive right into Pure Wizard.

If you are looking to level up enchanting here are some suggestions.
First, there is a glitch where there is an invisible chest next to the second iron mine in Dawnstar that contains the items that the khajiit caravan sells. There should be some soul gems that you can use for enchanting as well as enchanted items that you can disenchant to learn new enchantments. Note:the chest only appears when the caravan is there in Dawnstar.
Second, you can always just constantly buy more soul gems from wizards at the college of winterhold, and then enchant an item with the best enchantment and sell it and repeat. I'm not sure, but if you have a good enough speech, I bet you could at least break even.
Third, do the Azura's Star quest, which will give you Azura's Star, which can be constantly reused as the best soul gem in the game, and all you have to do to refill it is cast soul trap on a person and kill them. I usually do this with all my targets from Dark Brotherhood quests or simply find a stupid bandit or one of the forsworn.

Alchemy is tricky. I went out, grabbed everything, looked up the ingrdients on the Wikis, and made potions/poisons with as many Effects in common as possible. Unlocked 8 effects at one for my personal record. (Don't remember what that combination was.) Thing is, unless you're using it to glitch train, you don't need 100 Alchemy for it to be effective. Play around a while, see what works out, and write down recepies for ones you'll actually use. You can grind it up, your XP is proportional to value, so make stuff with multiple High Value effects, but that's extremely dull, going out, and grabbing ingredients for the high value potions you won't use, then getting ones for your staples, then getting the ones to fortify your other crafting skills to do the loop (Fortify Enchanting, and Restoration are the major ones.) The first time, it's really better to find everything for yourself, and experiment a bit (Not completely) then power level when you have some Player Experience. Otherwise, it takes forever to do it wll without going back, and forth to the Wikis/Faqs.

In my opinion I think that both Alchemy, Enchanting and Smithing were made with the intention of Bethesda to let the players of Skyrim, rather explore for ingredients (alchemy), soul gems (enchanting) and ignots (smithing). By just exploring, I'm level 15, enchanting at 38 (without mage stone) by solely disenchanting any enchanted loot.

I store all my soul gems, ignots, pelts and ingredients in breezehome. I would bet, by level 30 - 40 I would have enough ingredients, soul gems and ignots to get all three skills to level 100. Is this efficient? Definitely not. Is it fun? Yes. Exploring is waaay more fun than going to Dawnstar or doing the Iron Dagger thing.

Again. My opinion.

If youre interested in Alchemy it actually isnt too hard to grind through. I make a bunch of slow potions to boost it up. Deathbell+Salt Pile=Slow Potion. I dont bother reading guides but the slow potions really seam to make that experience bar jump. You can add damage ingredients to add a poison effect to em 

For Alchemy read my guide I think it's exactly what you're looking for http://skyrimforum.com/threads/tips-to-level-alchemy-and-make-easy-gold.20633/

My favourite build so far is a Dunmer Sneaky mage vampire. Essentially a mage with a little sneak, some archery and destruction/conjuration.
It all fits perfectly, dunmer get a 50% resistance to fire which offsets the vampires 50% weakness completely, add in the new mask from dragonborn called Ahzidal and you get 25% more fire damage and 50% fire resistance, so you actually end up as a fire resistant and fire using vampire. You can also use bound bow to level archery and conjuration simultaneously.

Slow/Lingering Poison can be very effective with a bow, so at least you get something for your trouble other than just XP. That's a pretty valuable effect, but adding another effect makes it even more valuable, and useful in your inventory...

Also, Absorb Health (The Vampire only Spell) is a Fire Effect. Does it do more damage/health with Ahzidal yet? I haven't tested it myself, but you can just look in your Magic menu and see if it's 8 points, or 12?

I didn't know this, I've never used it much before because it's so weak but maybe if it's affected by all the flame perks then it's worth using.
My high level dunmer mage vamp is gone unfortunately, I delete my old character when I start a new 1, but my current build is very similar when I get ahzidal I'll check it and let you know.

I do know that it is affected by Augment Flames, Necromage, and the Intense Flames/Aspect of Terror glitch. Also, I can't conceive of playing a Vampire for all those bonuses, and Not using them to suck some blood. It just doesn't seem right. Similarly, Absorb Health (Weapons Enchant) is also enhanced by Augment Flames, and Fire Enchanter if you DiY. (Or it was true the last time I tried this build, but it was several Patches ago.) I kind of pride myself on knowing All the exploits, even the ones I don't use, so this would be useful information to me, and save me a lot of trouble remaking HemoRager the Bloodknight from scratch...

Yeah I knew about the enchants, the absorb health is sooooo weak though at least without those perks. I always use the vampire lords area of effect drain spell because that's some serious damage just not the standard one, definitely going to try it now though.
Does Necromage still work? as in all the unintended effects? I'd heard that it was patched in 1.8, I suppose I'll soon find out on this character once I get my resto to 70.

IDK, like I said, that build was months ago, and there's been at least 3 patches since. not really the way i like to play, but I still did it, just to do it all. One more thing, Fortify Destruction also temporarilly enhances it for when you Really need the Health. Now, if you don't mind I have to start my character to run the game in Master without any Equipment...

They sell for a ton of gold too. Alchemy rocks

Well, yeah, that's what I ment by "Valuable" but also a proportinate gauge for how much XP you get for each Potion. I wasn't talking about leveling Speech...
oops i misunderstood ur meaning of value there, my bad...but judging by ur perfect grammar im guessing ur speech is at 100 haha ;) thats a compliment i swear
