Currently, I'm not sure if that information is out yet. I'm sure if there is a level requirement that it would be around 10 or 20 though. The leaker said that the DLC was not an easy one, so that's all I can derive from logically.

Apparently the quest "horn of jurgen windcaller" must be completed in order to start this dlc, don't know anything about level requirements though.

Yeah, I was thinking about this too. I don't think I want my Wood Elf to do this, but maybe Dark Rlf since she was originally going to be a Main Quest run-thru anyhow, and has gotten far enough.

Also thinking of returning to my Redguard swordspell--she's really more than "Dragonborn" type of character.

If you need to have complete the Horn of Jurgen part of the first act, then the level require to start probably isn't that high.

I got the DLC but I want to finish the quest I am currently doing. I will then promptly start DRAGONBORN.
Thank you Bethesda for the best games on Earth.

Yes, I can confirm you need to have finiished Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. I tried with my Redguard who hasn't and she did not encounter the cultists ho start the quest. Tried with my Dark Elf who has, and she did encounter them immediately.

Have to say, doing this with a Dark Elf is rather peculiar. Really enjoyable. I love the inn "The Retching Netch" where my Dark Elf and Marcurio have settled in their room for some ash yams and flin. :p

You need to complete the quest "the way of the voice" (my character was on the quest Horn of... when i got ambushed by cultist.)

I played a little with my level 41 wood elf sneak, and she was severely outmatched. I recommend having very good armor, don't be a vampire (otherwise the fire magic will be a hassle) and don't go without an ally!

newb here. but why would you take a follower with a sneak character anyway? mine always fluffs up the sneak and go rambo the whole time. backstab with a improved daedric dagger don't even kill a monster in dragonborn?!

Does anyone know what level you should start it on? (i.e. when it wont be an epic struggle at every turn)

I started it around level 12 and I struggled like crazy. While any level could probably do it, I'd suggest letting your game play on a bit and gaining perks and levels so you can survive a bit better and have more health, etc. I'd suggest about level 20, but get some good armor, good weapons, and stock up on insane amounts of potions and definitely take along a follower.

There is no minimum to trigger it, beyond killing Mirmulnir, and talking to JBtG. However, the difficulty is pretty high. Depending on how powerful your build is, I'd say 25 is a good round number. Adjust this for how much of your skills are combat oriented, I've done it as low as 5, but died a lot. If you have a bunch of Utility skills, like Speech, and Lockpicking, then you want to adjust it up. If all you have is Weapons, Armor, and Smithing to make them powerful beyond your level, then you can squeek in as low as 10-15. If you want to fight the ultimate enemy (The Ebony Warrior) you have to be at least 80 (out of 81) for him to even spawn.

I prefer to have finished the Main Quest with my Dragonborn characters, so if I went right after Dragonslayer, then maybe level 21-25?

I agree with all of this. Stock up, Heath is nice (Or Armor, but I prefer Health) potions, Re-enforcements the first time until you know your way around. The first time, I went in with a Master Conjurer, with Heavy Armor, and 2 Dremora Lords. It was Challenging. (No Weapon Skills, at 25, not a good plan.)

The second time, I had a level 5 Steel 2H fighter. Wolf Armor, Skyforge GreatswordS (Superior) and went straight for the Bloodskal Blade. Ran out of potions, quick. Fortunately, I had a couple Scrolls of Guardian Circle, those, and the Wait button saved my life. I was on the next boat back to Skyrim.

The third time was Nightmer, a Dunmer Nightblade/Arcane Assassin. (Unarmored, Conjuration instead of Destruction.) To start, I ran the Telvanni quests, and DB arc all the way to Miraak. By the end of it, I'd built up Light Armor, and became more of a Spellsword, so I respecced Sneak for Destruction (Ironically enough.) Levels 15-27, I cleared the entire island.

Last time, I went with my level 50 Dunmer Battle/Archmage Axeon. Light Armor, Destruction (Cloaks) Drainblood Axe. It was tough, mostly because of the Melee specialty with nothing but Lightning Bolt at range (Augmented Shock, Disintigrate.) I barely leveled at all. Most of my skills were at, or near max, so I transitioned to Conjuration without the crutch of Flaming Familiar, nor Bound Weapons, it was slow going. By the time I got 1 Dremora Lord, the difficult quests were over, and the rest was pretty yawn worthy.

I also loaded my one, and only level 81 to dance with the Ebony Warrior. I finally ended up Frost roading him to death around Morthal (Where I ran into him, and the Cultists) with Critical Charges to stagger him, and knock him down in incriments. Untargeted, his Reflect effect didn't work, it still took forever, but he never got the chance to hit me once I died the first time trying to toe-toe with him. Elbereth, High Elf Spellswordy type, but Unarmored other than Ebonyflesh, and Bound Sword. I tried running her through Solestheim, but having already done it all, and with such a powerful character, it was boring.

My character was in her late 70's (level, not age, thank goodness) when I got Dragonborn, and with a bow that does base damage of 368 (no cheating, just taking enchanting/smithing a bit too seriously one day), the monsters were pretty much a minimal threat. I'm pretty sure you can run through Dragonborn at 20+. Haven't yet tried it on my other characters, so we'll see. But definitely, definitely get good armor for it. The monsters in that world don't screw around.

If you are like me you will travel to Soltheim at level 1. But then again if you are like me you are just fluffin stupid. The new mobs in the new dlc will rip you apart up untill the low 20's. If you are big into smithing and enchanting you will have a slightly easier time, but I would bet my bottom dollar that you will be tempted to turn down the difficulty on some parts. FIGHT THE URGE MY FRIEND.
