okay. So right now i would say that Tamriel, when compared with earth, is currently in the 'roman' era of technology, in general that is. I'm talking about human races rather than mer. And i see a lot of question regarding the setting of future elder scrolls games and not a lot on what the world will be like then. So what do you think the future will hold? will we enter a game where connections are made across continents? will there be an industrial revolution of sorts regarding Dwemer technology? how do you think Society will progress in the future?

Edit: this is in regard for future games, not the next one.

Probably not the next game, simply because very little is known about the Dwemer and their technology. It seems unlikely to me that in the next TES, which I would guess would be set a few hundred years later, knowledge of technology would increase so much as to lead to an industrial revolution, not to mention that the real-life industrial revolution was preceeded by centuries of progressive development, i.e. it wasn't primitive technology being used straight up to the industrial revolution. However, TES is fiction, and if Bethesda really wanted to, they could have some strange event cause a great amount of technological knowledge to be discovered, if they really wanted to. If the TES series goes on long enough (which I hope it will), something like an industrial revolution may happen.

If we're exclusively talking humans here, then you can probably infer that the setting will be almost exactly the same technology-wise as the previous game (Skyrim). I figure Skyrim would take place sometime in the late Roman Empire-Early Middle Ages (around the 6th-8th century), if we were to translate the Tamrielic timeline to our timeline. The Dwemer, however, seem to have technology reminiscent of the late nineteenth century (1850s-1880s, approximately).

In short, I don't foresee the Dwemer suddenly popping out of the ground with a full-scale steampunk revolution, if that's what you're trying to get at.

Also, remember that many humanoid races do not rely on elves very much. They would frown upon using Dwemer technology, especially since so little is known about it.

But there isn't the incentive to develop technology in the same way as in our world, as long as magic allows people to achieve many of the results that we did via new machines and equipment. Clearly the Dwemer made some advances that are either lost or not used and I would hope that the College would eventually come up with new branches of magic that would allow more efficient farming and transportation etc. Maybe someone out there could develop a whole new perk tree for such innovations.

sorry, i meant future games, or just the future of Tamriel really. Not necessarily the next game.

But that is like us. We once considered blacks to be inferior but that changed over time. would the perception of elves change too?
