Am I the only one who *doesn't* want to become a Nightingale? (spoilers)

I mean think about it. Yeh you get a few perks while alive - but you're damned to eternity to guard that dingy cave when you're dead. Doesn't sound like a good deal to me.
I was dissapointed that there were no conversation options to say no, I don't want to become one. Hell if you yes i'm ready to Karliah and follow her to the circle SHE SAYS THE OATH FOR YOU!! I mean wtf? I wanted to tell Nocturnal no to her erm face..well ball thing...but no Karliah practically sells my soul so she can get her revenge and I don't get to say anything about it??
I immediately whipped out my swords and started hacking those two up, only to find that they can't die...damn it.

Very pissed about that. Loaded up an earlier save, threw the nocturnal armour on the floor and left, determined never to return.
Guess I can't complete the thieves' guild quest line eh? Bit daft you have to sell your soul to catch that idiot Mercer.

Who cares about the soul, i have never seen it, felt it, used it (well maybe unknowingly). And where else does the soul go? A paradice where it will be sitting around useless? As i thief i rather have powers and amazing armor in life to get soem personnal gain then denying it wandering about what could have been for my intere life :p

Perhaps I came to the quest too late, but at level 57, with several kits of enchanted legendary dragonscale at my hands, the nightingale stuff is very inferior and isn't worth selling my soul for.
I would have been content if I could have at least gutted Karliah and she would stay dead. That was one of the cool things about Daggerfall/Morrowind. Yeh you could end up screwing the main quest line, but you had more freedom.

yeah i really do miss that about morrowind. at the time i hated it cause i had to reload an old save like every hour or so. i didnt understand you have to keep some assholes alive to beat the game.

Its not like if you die you have to sit around the temple of nocturnal forever. It bothered me too a bit but unless youre a super hardcore roleplayer I don think it matters much compared to the benefits.

Cool story bro.

Well unless you become a vampire and live forever then it's like fluff you Nocturnal. But what I wonder seeing how I served as a dark brotherhood member and a werewolf of Hircine before I was a nightingale does that mean when I die Hircine, the dread father, and Nocturnal are gonna have a smack down for my soul when I die. Or maybe I am just bound for Sovangarde automatically since you kill Alduin and are Dragonborn by birth. Just for the sake of arguing.

You don't serve Nocturnal forever, only until she is satisfied, then you can go to The Evergloam, a place where your soul "becomes one with the shadows".

Or Possibly there could be an Elder Scroll to unbind the contract if one could be found after all the gray fox in Oblivion used an Elder Scroll to realise him from his curse of Nocturnal's Cowl. So it goes to show her word is not law and even her power can't stop that of an elder scroll.

I'm not really interested in the Nightingales, and your Fridge Logic is rather true. She does railroad you through the Oath, but as said above, it's not like you actually have to play through the Afterlife. I love the TG storyline up to that point, but I'd rather promise my soul to Sithis, or Hircine, or any of the Daedric princes I usually do favors for. Meridia especially, she's my favorite.

I think the Dragonborn's soul is under contention with potentially 3 or 4 different daedric entries, not mention that you gain some points with Sovngarde. Just had a mental image of "lawyers" for Hircine, Noturnal, and Mermaeus Mora calling a meeting to litigate their claims on the Dragonborn. That can't end well.

It would be highly interesting to see the results from the death of the Dragonborn, who got mixed up with Hircine, Nocturnal, Hermaeus Mora (Only if you used his book to gain knowledge), Sheogorath (wabbajack),
Hircine and so on.

Perhaps this will result in a conflict which will then create a world war. The divines vs Daedric princes.

You counted Hircine twice, does that mean His ring, the Savior's hide, and a member of the Circle? If you've got all that stacked up, I think you're destined for the Hunting Grounds. IMO, if you stop the end of Time itself, I think you've earned your choice of afterlife.

I like to think to think I give the Daedric Lords little pieces of paper with IOU on it... Well except Molag Bal since I get the idea of where his mind might be working for everyone.

But ya. I felt a little disappointed too. It was cool to get the suit and skills, but I wasn't too thrilled about selling my characters soul just to become the leader of the Thieves Guild. Not that I would do that for my character, especially if it actually fit into that characters background, I just dislike the fact I was forced into it. Kinda like the Companions guest. I get why they did it, it just sucks how I was forced into it... But that's just on certain characters. Others I'm like ,"Yay I get to sell my soul to Noctornal!"

The way i see it, if the skeleton key is never returned to the twilight sepulcher, the the portal to nocturnal's realm will never open. Meaning you will not have to spend eternity hanging around a dusty old cave until the next nightingale kicks it, at which point you'll ''become one with the shadows''. Who wants that? fluff nocturnal!!

I've completed the thieves Guild/Nightingales quuestline in a past playthrough. Not interested in becoming a Nightingale or even joining the guild in my current game. It would have been good if you could destroy them like you can the Dark Brotherhood.
