Well I just started a new playthrough and as in every playthrough I want to start roleplaying. However in this one I need a house and a wife to actually roleplay. The wife is easy however the house is not. How can I make 5000 dollars quickly. Someone give me some help please.

I find my preferred way to quick cash is alchemy. Bonus is it levels alchemy. I always end up with a TON of potions I can't even sell because nobody has the $ to buy them all.

Smithing/enchanting daggers works too, but they weigh you down.

Theres a glitch, check on youtube about the whiterun and dawnstar merchant chests. You get quite a bit of gold and worthwhile things to sell.

That's what I've been doing. I don't have a house yet, but I do have Lydia aka my faithful pack mule to help me carry stuff until I sell it (hey, she's the one that says she's sworn to carry my burdens... ;)). Though usually I go through that whole process all at once in Whiterun: buy empty soul gems --> buy daggers --> go hunting to trap souls --> go to Dragonsreach and enchant everything --> go sell them at Warmaiden's.

I've also heard (though I haven't tried it) that you can store things in the room provided to you when you join The College of Winterhold, The Companions, etc.

I've heard the Alchemy works well, too. doc108 it really depends on what type of character you're building. If you are building a Mage or a Warrior, the enchanting/smithing trick could work out well for you in the long run, since you'll be building those skills.

When I start a new game, after I've talked to Gerdur or Alvar, I usually walk from Riverwood to Falkreath. I enter every nearby cave and other "hotspots", before I even know it I got a couple of thousand gold and alot of items to sell. I find it the most easy/exciting way, you could always do what kiwidovahkiin said, though I find that boring.

Kolskegger mine near Markarth. Full of gold ore. Go to the small mining camp just outside of Markarth and take a quest from Pavo to clear out the Forsworn from his mine. I usually walk out with 45 to 50 pieces of gold ore.

This is the best non cheating(glitch) way I know of early in the game.

Shiney, let's be bad guys.
Activate the Steed Stone for +100 carry weight. Then either chop and sell firewood or clear out some bandit hideouts and sell the loot.

Plus, he will pay you for killing the Forsworn, even though you have taken all his gold from the mine.

The wife is easy...

I'm sorry but I needed to get that out of my system...

Anyway.

I find that alchemy, smithing and hunting are the best ways for me to make money. I once played Skyrim for two days in a row and did nothing but smelt, smith and hunt around a few major cities. It was quite rewarding really and when I retired to the local tavern for a few jugs of mead, a satisfying feeing of accomplishment and hard graft washed over me. It was lovely!

Obviously, real life me had been sat on my fat arse all day, ignoring the half-term coursework that my students had done and that needs marking yesterday. But hey ho...

I laughed.

A lot more then I should've.

Anyway, what you gotta do ASAP if you are a Thieve character is to start up the Dark Brotherhood, which will net a lot of money. Pickpocketing folks works, too. As someone said, the ebony mine from that Orc stronghold will give loads of money to you as well. Alchemy, Enchanting/Smithing all work well. In fact, I was just playing a regular character, not paying attention to my gold, when suddenly, I had 30.000 gold. WTF.

Well, as long as you don't kill any Orcs there, the Mine WON'T be cleared, which is good for you. The ores will "grow" quicker. So just mine at the beggining, play the game, and when you can make Daedric/Ebony, go back there. At least, that's what I do.

Does it have to be Breezehome? Is there any reason you can't marry a wife who already owns a house? Ysolda & Uthgerd own homes in Whiterun. Other home owning wives outside of Whiterun exist as well. Here:

Hah. A valid point.

Actually, they don't always need a home. One of my characters married Roggi Knot-Beard (it was the beard, I think, that she fell for), and they lived in a mining camp for a while. Funny thing was, out on the road, they visited a mine, and when she gave him a pick and asked him to help her dig, all he said was, "Nope, can't do that." And she was like, "Dude, you've been doing this for years."
