I got my name from my Skyrim character. Yeah, that's it. Boring, huh? I guess I'll share the story of how I came up with the name for my character.
The name of Buffington goes back to when I was a little boy. I was an only child, so I always made my dad play with toys with me. At one point a got a little Lego set. I didn't know what to name one of the minifigures (little lego dudes), so my dad decided to make up a name. It was "Professor Chad Buffington". He heard the last name "Buffington" somewhere else before. Anyways, the character Chad Buffington was a crazed British scientist who's poop was radioactive and edible. When eaten, you are granted special powers. If you're allergic to itand eat it, you go rabid and your head falls off (yes, we were crazy and we still are.) Chad also had a floating chair and a brother who drove a mech. (Anyways, I think that's all I have to say about the original Buffington.)
Many years later, I get Skyrim for the Xbox 360. I start off with a Nord. After I get to Whiterun, I am reminded that Nords are the main race. I thought "fl*ff this, I wanna be a minority!" Before I was done with the character, I met Idolaf. He asked the question. "Gray Mane or Battle-Born?" I thought Battle-Born sounded badass and that I should make my next character part of the Empire. I decided to make the next guy a Battle-Born. Once I created the character, I made him a young Imperial who looked older than he was. I was wondering what his name should be. "Something Battle-Born... what about something that starts with a 'B'?" I thought and thought, but then I remembered the little lego dude from my childhood. "Buffington... Buffington Battle-Born! It's PERFECT!" I was pleased with the name, so I kept it like that. I never found myself straying away from that character. I still play as him today.
Then, in February 2012, I found a greatly organized forum site dedicated to Skyrim. It seemed too good to be true. I signed up immediately. I tried to think of a name. "Hmm. How about the name of my Skyrim Character? Buffington... Battle-Born..."
