General difficulty

Solsthein is meant to be harder than Skyrim, I personally don't go there until i'm in level 40's. There is a place which is safe for a short time to place your loot. "Puzzling Pillar Ruins " on the way to Sleeping Tree Camp, there is 3 Pillars with animal glyph's a crate is there with a Skeleton and chest, you can keep your loot here. I use this place.

I got the impact skill and ran into lurkers and duel cast flames on them, but it didn't seem to have any stun effect.

Ah, if it's meant for 40's, I'll go back to skyrim. Though I've been making progress on the quests here.

Man, there is a burnt spriggan I inadvertantly quicksaved where it's aggro, and I can't come close to dealing with it.

It's fire immune, dual-cast sparks has little effect, and sparks with healing gets it down about 10% before I run out of mana.

Even an invisibility potion had no effect on it.

Might have to back to an earlier save.

I'm not even sure I can get back to skyrim, there are creatures in the way too strong to get by.

I got back to the ship, but can't get it to go to Skyrim.

I pay the captain (twice), he says we're going but doesn't.

You can fast travel back to Skyrim, I always travel this way after first time going there by ship. It should not be a problem.
But hey if you think your doing ok in Solsthein, you should carry-on.

Well, I started running into 'trash mobs' outside raven rock I couldn't deal with, so while I could progress on quests, it seems better to leave.

If I fast travel to skyrim, leaving the boat in Raven Rock that took me there, will I be able to get back to Raven Rock?

There's a catch-22. I want to get back to skyrim to store my stuff so I'm not encumbered, and it says 'you can't fast travel while encumbered'.

I dumped stuff on the ground just to test and got back to skyrim, and my horse is gone.

Found my horse, near the fast travel spot.

Got on the boat on my horse, sailed back to Raven Rock, horse gone.

You know you can fast travel to and from Skyrim, Solsthein, as much as you like. Have you tried fast travelling on your Horse? Sorry I wouldn't know as I never owned a Horse, so unsure if possible.

Interesting idea. It doesn't 'feel right' in that why is there a boat charging 250 gold if you can just click it?

No, when I fast travel to solsthein, I arrive without my horse.

This is catch-22 trying to get my loot back to the horse.

Got through all this by dropping and carrying only to find horses can't carry anything without a mod. And Lydia can't carry enough.

It seems like bad design to give the player a ton of dragon scales and bones that are heavy that encumber without storage.

I'm looking at taking stuff to Windhelm and just dumping it on the ground.

This was the problem for me, why keep paying to travel to Solsthein when you can just teleport there. There was no way I was going to keep paying for the ship ride.

You really need to get yourself a player home.
