I heard this recently. I just started a new character and I an told not to download Dawnguard. Well I had no choice. It added on all three DLCs. So, What's up with that?

Yeah, they can and they will attack, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Worst-case scenario, you lose the ability to start a few radiant quests if they kill the market vendors in Solitude.
One of the quests won't even be offered if you've already gotten far enough in the Dark Brotherhood questline to kill Vittoria Vici anyway, and the same vendor mentions the whole thing about burning of King Olaf, and that quest is actually given by the Bard's College after you join.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just go in and have fun. If NPCs die, then NPCs die. I went and killed a ton of them myself as a werewolf in Whiterun...:D

A vampire killed the High Elf in Radiant Raiment that says, "if you're heading to the Blue Palace, you might want to rethink that outfit.."

So it can actually work in your favor. :D

I do not like when then attack in Whiterun, though. Adrianne (spelling?) is a vendor I sell to a lot, no matter if I'm leveling smithing. When they attack, she almost always dies if I'm not quick enough.

If I deleted it. I can always redownload it again from xbox live, right? I thought I saw a download again option there. I am not ready for the quest yet anyway. First I have to go to Whiterun and then Winterhold, and gain some more levels. This game is so incredibly fun though.

you have to remove the add-ons AND disconnect console from accessing Xbox Live or the add-ons will be downloaded again when you restart the game

Alternatively , you can progress through the Dawnguard main quest line without "side" trips to prevent unwanted NPC deaths in towns.
Once Harkon is dead , attacks in towns will cease

By doing this I only lost Lami in Morthal and Pantea Atea in Solitude (fortunately had already done their quests)

OMG I wish someone would come in and kill her, she drives me insane...please lady, my armour is worth 400 times what your clothes are, and in addition to being a one-of-a-kind by the best designer in Skyrim (moi), they're pretty and shiny. Bugger off. :p

lol

i think she`s rude for a reason

she desires some "privacy" as she may tell you if you surprise her

one day when i came into the open door during buisness hours , she ran around from behind the counter and wanted to run me off.
i peeked upstairs and there was Irnskar Ironhand sitting like he was waiting for someone

the shop is just a front for an altmer/nord love nest !

:D We could send some of those vampires in and REALLY have some fun ;)

I just had lucky timing. Lol

Fast traveled to Solitude, and when I got there it was around 9pm or so. Everyone was leaving their shops, so there was tons of people attacking the vampire, but he was able to take one person down with him. :D

you laugh but it can be done !

using dead thrall spell i once managed to get a vampire to respawn inside that a**hole Belethor`s shop in Whiterun.
Much fun to watch him get zapped and drained but i stepped in before he was killed

Vampire rampages. Don't these town have guards that attack the vamps? LOL!!! I cannot wait to see this stuff go on.

The thing is I do not want to have to start over. I wonder if I can move my Dawnguard DLC elsewhere on my xbox 360. That way the next time I start a character. I can copy and paste Dawnguard back in and download it when I am prepared to begin the quest. Also, I see what you mean about ass$%&% NPCs, many are really annoying!

So, if you download Dawnguard, and even if you don't pursue the first quest, there's still vampires going about killing NPCs? Or does this only happen after you complete the initial quest or two? This is what I'm not clear about.

I hear it happens if you download it before you are ready to begin the quest. In this case level 10. I downloaded it when I was level 2. So, supposedly my npcs will be dead. I am level 7 now, but have a ways to go before getting to that point in the game.

As soon as either almost every guard you pass mentions they're opening a Dawnguard, or an orc named Durak approaches you. It can start from any point after that.

In my experience there won't be a vampire attack every time you enter a town. So far at level 36 and still not having go to join either side, they're kinda rare.

But when they do happen, they can be very annoying. Adrianne kept getting killed. Had to reload 3 times before deciding to fast travel somewhere else, waiting a few hours, and then fast travel to Whiterun.

They still attacked, but Adrianne was safe in her home.

The only way to stop the attacks are to either kill Lord Valkihar at the end of the Dawnguard side, or I assume joining his side will stop it sooner. But Dawnguard has much better goodies than the vampires.

So there's no way to not trigger these attacks with EVERY one of your characters, given you can't exactly choose to avoid guards.

That's what I thought, given the quest line's only prerequisite is you need to be lv 10.

I've not downloaded the latest DLC, and am becoming more and more glad I haven't. As far as who the Vampire's attack, so far for my own experience, they will get anyone they can (but any child). The Blacksmith I dealt with in Riverwood was killed, and the wife of the one in Whiterun was killed, server all outside merchant's in Whiterun and Solitude were killed. So it seems the attacks are random. I don't have my char help, as a bounty often occurs if I miss and hit a guard or citizen. So I send out a Flaming Atronarch, or a Dremora to hammer them.
