I'm thinking as a nord two handed weapons heavy armor and smithing perks should come first and stamina and strength should be focused on ? is magika of any worth to a nord character ?

My bf plays a heavy magicka nord but he also focused on one handed weapons. He's always focused heavy on smithing as its been a cash cow for him not to mention really helps with getting sweet armor although he prefers light to heavy just because he can carry more crap out of dungeons that way. I'm not 100% sure on many more of the details of his character but I'm sure he'll be around in a little while and won't be able to resist this topic ;)

My Nord is a battlemage of sorts. He's your basic sword n' board, heavy-armored hero when it comes to combat. Every battle I start, I use a flesh spell to boost my defenses. Once I've conquered one foe, I resurrect him or her to assist me in the midst of battle. If I am somehow injured, I heal myself a good bit until I can go for part two of the fight. Like the patriarchs in his family tree, he too crafts his own weapons and improves his armor. So far, my stats are 4 in Health and 1 in Magicka. Once I get to level 21 though, I will change it to 3 in Magicka and 2 in Health. You can play your Nord however you wish, but it's a fun way to play should you ever wish to go into the Arcane arts. If you want any Nord specific builds, I went ahead and did a search for you. Just click on this sentence. There should be a page number section below the build that says Katarri, in case you want to look through more. To view the actual build itself, just click on the blue hypertext that says "Character Build: (insert name)".

With Skyrim, I've found that choosing a race really has little to do with what sort of class you want them to be. Choosing a race really only decides which of your skills are highest to begin with, and it's usually by very small 5 to 10 point amount. It has no bearing on what kind of direction you can take your character in. I played a High Elf, in the lore known for being tall, thin, physically weak, but powerful with magicka, as a powerful two-handed warrior with literally no specialization in magic. There were no drawbacks to it at all.

The best thing to do is simply pick a race you love, for whatever reason, and run with it. I've seen excellent elf warriors, and great Nord and Khajiit mages. It all depends on where you take your character and what you focus on with them - not their race.

Oh ok...well then I shall continue on with the original character I started out with. Thanks for the feedback.

I find magicka to be pretty helpful too, especially if you're going to be alone. I tried out a lot of destruction spells, though I don't dual-wield and I didn't add impact. They seem not to get me very far later on, but in the early stages of the game being able to set something on fire goes very far toward defeating it.

I tried to keep my character rounded out, equally advancing magicka, health, and stamina. I wasted a few perks on things I didn't need, but I am pretty happy with what I ended up with. The earlier you can conjure a flame atronach, the better off you will be in the dungeons. I find they don't run out of magicka for firebolts, like I would, they don't miss, and they leave you free to use your sword and shield.

If you do go for destruction, I found out too late that trying to spread my perks between the three destructive powers (fire, frost, shock) only kept me from becoming really good at one of them. You may fare better fully advancing one before the others.

I would put your perks in the appropriate armor trees, and try your best for 5/5 armsman. Fighting stance helps me some, but I found bladesman, hack and slash, and bone crusher to be a waste of a perk IMHO. Put those into your conjuration or smithing or something. I recommend going at least up to Dwarven, because crafting Dwarven bows with dwemer metals can be extremely lucrative. Raiding a Dwemer ruin can net you 20 + Dwarven Metal Ingots and that's plenty of cash to spend later.

If I were to do another character right now, I would advance conjuration, one-handed, and either light or heavy armor, as well as speech up to Investor. (Riverwood Trader has like 10k on hand at any time now...one stop treasure sale) As you can, increase your alchemy and enchanting perks too...at least the 5/5 tree root. Invest a little money in ore (or go out mining) at the start, and make it a point to try and
upsmith everything you bring back, before selling it. That will help push your smithing level up, and will increase how much you can improve your own armor and weapons, while the enchanting will help you make it even more deadly.

Good luck and enjoy.

Here's a 2-handed heavy armor build I've used on master that works quite well.

Don't touch smithing until around level 30, the armor and items you find should last you until then.

You need to pick up the fast heal spellbook from a vendor, and the respite perk. You will need enough stamina for at least 3 powerattacks. Pick up the become ethereal shout, only the first word is needed.

Basically you will play in either defensive or offensive mode. In offensive, you sprint towards the enemy(s) and hack them to pieces with massive damage from your power attacks. Because of your heavy armor, you will be able to take many melee hits before you get low.

Once you get low, use Become Ethereal to halt all damage done to you, change your positioning, run for cover, or move freely to a better spot, then use Fast Heal on both hands to restore all of your HP and stamina when you are ready to fight again (as using any spell or attack will remove the Become Ethereal effect). Rinse and repeat. Just switch between offensive and defensive. This build works well as long as you don't try to switch too much, and know your limit to how much damage you can take. Because BE makes you completely invincible for a short time, this allows you to put damage enchants on your gear instead of magic resist.

That's my 2-handed heavy armor build :)
