I read a thread earlier saying something to the effect that the ps3 skyrim players are left out of dlc's and such. Why is that ? It would seem to me leaving out ps3 players on any dlc's is a huge mistake and financially makes no sense. If this is true are ps3 players left out of mods aswell ?

1. No mods on consoles
2. It was a deal with Microsoft, first 2 DLC got a month early to XBox, but techno difficulties made it late on PS3, not even out yet.

This is one thing Xbox and PS3 users share - we don't have access to mods. To make a really, really long story short, Bethesda coded Skyrim for the Xbox and made a very sad attempt to port it to the PS3 (where they should have just coded it separately, because, you know, they're two different systems). It's the reason the PS3 version had significantly more problems. Adding DLC to an already broken game is the equivalent of trying to build a house on top of a crumbling foundation.

Oh how I love the inside deals with microsoft. "Now that you've bought our game for your system, feel free to buy a whole new system/computer, so you can actually enjoy it better." :/

Bethesda releasing toolkits for their games is something only the PC can take advantage of. It isn't Bethesda's fault if microsoft and sony do not wish to accomodate mods on their systems, and you really can't blame anyone for it. Consoles were created to be lesser PCs to streamline playing games into a simple process for a cheaper price.

Unfortunately that streamlining has created lots of limitations on consoles, and players not being allowed to edit, replace, and extract game files is simply one of those limitations.

I don't think anyone expects to do editing on their console, but the idea that Microsoft doesn't have some influence in the delay/failure to release even the DLCs for PS3 just doesn't hold water. I see no good reason for that, excepting of course Microsoft's involvement in xbox. I don't imagine we need to entertain their involvement in PCs. Does anyone here think the old "force them to buy our product for the full benefit" concept is not alive and well ? I have some property...

There are a great many reasons these problems occur, but I seriously doubt microsoft is "bribing" them in some way from releasing it to the PS3. They are losing out on a ton of money by doing so. The PS3 version is already infamous for its horrible buginess, because Skyrim was programmed around the PC, which translated much easier to the Xbox 360. It did not translate well to the PS3, which is a system that is already notorious in the game developer scene for being difficult to program too.

This isn't the first time this problem has happened (and it won't be the last), and Bethesda always gets the content out in the end regardless. It may take a while, but it'll be there. Probably as DLC or a game of the year edition.

I don't doubt you there.

How about this for editing? Suppose they were to allow you to create a steam account, get the creation kit, mod and edit to your heart's content, and then convert the mod in the workshop to a format useable by PS3 or xbox. Then you could at least save it to a usb drive, like you would a saved game, and load it to the console that way. If the consoles are capable of downloading patches, I can't imagine they wouldn't accept changes by usb. Unfortunately, of the complaints I see from people who have tried, the chief among them seems to be copyright protection, rather than technical impossibility.

It's always about copyright protection. Microsoft and Sony are only two of a large group of companies that care little for the best way to do things, and merely force players to use their way instead.

For example: why do we need to always be online to play an offline game such as Mass Effect (for the DLC) or Assassin's Creed on the PC at all? The point of having those always online requirements is a form of DRM, however on the PC we have Steam, which in itself is DRM. Why do they need two systems to do the same thing? They don't know and they don't care. It's their way or the highway.

Such is the way with these things. PC usually gets a better deal in these things when games come out for it, I feel really sorry for console players. Most of the time they are punished by such apathetic attitudes more than PC players.

yes we do always get left out, microsoft is a big money company and the majority of game manufacturers like Bethesda are in bed with them. It is more profitable for them to take whatever corporate deal they have and dick over 1/3 of their customer base then to actually make good reliable products for everybody.

It even got me thinking as to whether I should invest in an xbox or gaming laptop. The tactics employed by Microsoft are sneaky, but yeah, it's working for them.

Let's see what comes out first, PS4 or Elder Scrolls 6.

Honestly from what I've read it sounds like Bethesda tried but ultimately gave up on the PS3 for DLC, and in all likelihood us PS3 players will never see any of it. Of course this all comes from the web, so who really knows for sure.

IGN had a story not too long ago about Skyrim getting DLC on the PS3 eventually. IGN is a rumor mill though, so they might have been reading too far into it. I can't remember, really.

Bethesda had that rumor too on their website but it never came to pass

I mean, like within the past month. They obviously haven't given up, I don't think they would stop trying to get more money out of one third their customer base.

I got the real impression from what I've read that it sort of got shoved to the side, and if someone just happens to figure it out great, but otherwise it's just not a priority to them anymore. Then again my theory and I could be completely wrong. Actually, I'm hoping I am.

Bethesda is having issues with the PS3 console. Sucks for me since I play on PS3, but it's out of my hands. I do believe Dawnguard and the other DLC content will make it to the PS3, but I don't believe it'll be ready any time soon.

Both PS3 and X-Box can't run mods, only PC.

what pisses me off the most, is their lack of communication, we have no idea what is going on in bethesda, do they have a whole team working on the DLC? have they completely stopped? are their more important things to them? we don't know, they won't tell us anything. and that makes me lose more faith in bethesda than a lack of DLC's ever could
