Is that fur coming out of your ears?
I had a phone call and a kitchen emergency all at the same time so I hurried and saved the game I was on, my new warrior build.

In my rush, I later realized I had overwritten my Main character by mistake, saved right over her last and only save. I used recovery software but the file was no longer usable. The version of that character I THOUGHT I had saved on a flashdrive, turned out to have been deleted and replaced with my son's court documents.

Over 120 hours down the PC toilet.....

YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS AGAIN YOUNG DOVAHKIIN

But yeah those saves can get really confusing sometimes.

I am sorry for your loss.

I just realized a bit of small irony here...

When I left Warcraft for good to play Skyrim a couple months ago, after 7 years, I left behind 10 characters I'd spent years on.

I had earlier abandoned another long lived character on Asheron's call. The one I just lost here makes 12 gone for good.

Kinda funny, don'tcha think, the character I have left is based on the 13th Warrior Nord, a Beowulf archetype.

And it's my 13th and final character, the one that closest resembles who I was in real life when I fought in the old SCA in a Viking clan.

Hmmm....

Perhaps try to recover the save folder to a previous version? Back it up first to somewhere else, but google how to revert a folder to a previous version. Also try some other types of recovery software such as Recuva.

This is why I always create a new save file when I save, and then mass delete old saves after a couple of weeks of playing ^~^

As annoying as it is, look towards the positive  opportunity to start again, reinvent the lost character?

I know saying this doesn't help after the fact, but I keep extra folders devoted to certain characters within the save folder itself and stash each character's saves in that folder when I want to play with a new one. You could also possibly go into the save folder and rename the file extension if you don't want the game to read or overwrite it.

Like I said, I know it's not helpful now, but hopefully useful in the future for a PC version of the game. I don't know how consoles manage saves, or if they can be removed/stored.

A lesson learned. I now have my fave characters saved on a thumb drive as well as in my personal Documents folder.
