The necro-knight build looks awesome, i'll try it soon

how's this build, i've kept to the core adding my own twist

Yeah, so far I'm having a blast playing my version of it. Yours looks good, only I never get characters up to level 81, too much grinding for me. I would suggest taking 2 perks from somewhere, probably the one in Block and one of the 5/5 Juggernauts, and using those to get Sweep in the Two Handed tree. This way you can hit multiple enemies at once with a strong poison, as well as the enchantment on your weapon. Just a suggestion.

It turns out the log book I was supposed to take was right next door in another empty warehouse. Don’t know why this businessman was so worried about it. I walked over, took the book, and gave it to him. He told me the next step was confronting a captain in Dawnstar about pirate activity. I may walk up through Winterhold to speak with Nelacar about how to fill my own soul gems on the way to Dawnstar.

After finding Brunwolf and delivering the good news, he gave me a hefty sum of gold and a few pointers on wearing my heavy armor. I have come to enjoy this Nord. I didn’t stay long chatting though. I decided with the rest of my daylight I would try to find a sword for the local blacksmith. He marked a cave to the south in a hot springs area. I thought this would be a more pleasing environment compared to frigid Windhelm.

On my journey to this cave, I was attacked by a sabre cat, a pack of wolves, another sabre cat, a Dark Brotherhood assassin, a wandering giant, a drug selling Khajiit, another pack of wolves, and finally a third sabre cat. By Malacath’s greatsword that was a lot! I was able to easily dispatch the wolves with my greatsword, I used frost magic and greatsword against the sabre cats, and after each one needed to rest and catch my breath. I don’t think I’d be able to take two of those beasts at once, like the mighty old Orc did.

The Dark Brotherhood assassin was an Argonian this time, and more furious than the first who assaulted me. I slowed and outmaneuvered him with my newly learned Ice Spikes. I switched to my greatsword and took a few blows from his sword and dagger combination. I bashed him away and gave a few mighty swings, which he swiftly recovered from and was attacking me again. Just as my vision started spotting red I finished him with a flurry of strikes. I’ll really need to investigate this group and put an end to their assassination attempts.

I avoided the giant, and intimidated the Khajiit. I saw what he had for sale and wanted to sell it myself, so I told him to give it to me and walk away. He thought it would be a good idea to start clawing at my heavy armor. I swiftly skewered him and took his valuable potions. I won’t touch Skooma though.

I overshot the cave and ended up at a Dwemer ruin called Mzulft. I explored the storeroom and came away with a few enchanted items I could disenchant to practice my skill. There was a room I couldn’t get into with a tricky lock. I could see through the slatted door there was some sort of enchanted Dwarven weapon. It looked about the length and shape of a greatsword, but may have been a battleaxe. I’ll never know.

Arriving at the cave, I was greeted by a mage who turned out to be a conjurer, summoning a spirit wolf to attack me in battle. I saw the mage was carrying vampire dust. This suddenly made my stomach turn. I had used my only cure disease potion when I began feeling low on energy after fighting one of the sabre cats. If there were indeed vampires in this cave I would need to keep my distance.

Inside the cave, I slayed another mage, who was also a conjurer, in a room with an alchemy table and a few ingredients. I don’t know the first thing about alchemy so I moved on. This second room seemed to be a large curved hallway. There was a single mage along with his pet summon, a hovering fire-person. I shot ice spikes from down the hallway to start the battle.

The mage cast flames back at me, while the thing I later learned was called a Flame Atronach threw firebolts. I was quickly overwhelmed by their combined firepower and tried to flee the cave. However, my berserker rage had other plans. I was immediately filled with the power of 10 typhoons. I drew my greatsword and charged into battle. It was already too late. I was too weak from their fiery assaults. I felt myself blacking out.

I don’t know how it happened, but I ended up back in the Candlehearth Inn in Windhelm. It’s been a week since I have really been out of bed or this room. My coin purse is a little lighter, I lost some of the loot I had gathered on my trip to the cave, but I am still alive. I am going to need to find some magic resistant gear to help combat these mages.

Until then, I’ll probably make my way to Dawnstar looking for that captain. I hope to go on a pirate slaying mission soon. After a week’s rest I’m eager for action.

I didn’t think my legs would be up for the long walk to Dawnstar after so much inactivity, so I ended up purchasing a carriage ride. I arrived in Dawnstar just around noon, so I went to the Inn and had a bite to eat. Conveniently, the man I was looking for was there too. Oh was he dense. I convinced him I was interested in joining their merry band, and paid him for the location of their boss.

A battlemage by the name Haldyn, holed up in a place called Japhet’s Folly. I hadn’t heard of this place, and couldn’t seem to find it on my map. Well, the only thing to do now was go back to Windhelm. It took me a half day to get here by cart, so I was sure the walk would be longer. I decided to spend an hour or so in Dawnstar exploring and speaking with people. Only thing I learned was that everyone seemed to be having nightmares.

I was able to convince the court mage to teach me how to trap souls into my own gems using a conjuration spell. This excited me greatly. I stocked up on food and began my journey on foot. Just outside Dawnstar a Khajiit caravan was set up. I browsed his selection and purchased a few empty soul gems. These are much cheaper than purchasing full ones.

On the road I ran into wolves and frostbite spiders. I was able to successfully harvest a few of their souls into my petty gems. It will only be a matter of time before I have the power I so crave. I skirted past a few roadsite forts, and was making good progress when I realized the sun was beginning to set. It would likely be suicide to stay out here at night. I spotted a ruin that a few bandits were out front of, Silverdrift Lair it was called.

I ice spiked the bandits to death and went inside hoping for a bedroll of some sort. What I saw was not pretty, a few bandits already dead. I should have just left then and kept walking. My curiosity, my need to see what did this to them, it overwhelmed me. If there was any way I could harvest some new power to make myself stronger, I would explore it. So I set out into the ruin, and was greeted by an undead being, a Draugr. This simple Draugr took many ice spikes before falling. I realized they must have a natural resistance to frost magic.

The next pair of Draugr I came upon used frost magic and arrows against me. Thanks to my Helm of Yngol, I resist some frost magic as well. I used my silver greatsword and was shocked at how easily they fell. They break so easily. I raised the frost casting Draugr and carried on through tunnels.

There were a few traps which I easily evaded. There were a lot of gemstones here, great to sell for quick gold, and lightweight most importantly. I found a glowing helmet sitting on a pedestal with a skeleton on the floor in front of it. It looked like a trap, and upon further examination, seemed like some sort of skewers came up through the floor when the helmet was displaced. I stood on a ledge to the side and grabbed the helmet, falling backwards just in time to dodge upward shooting spears.

It was a steel helmet of destruction. Valuable to help me cast an extra ice spike here and there. I tied it to my belt, thinking I preferred the look and frost resistance of my current helmet. I would probably disenchant this one to further my skill at the arcane enchanter.

I came upon a room with a large ancient wall with markings and symbols on it. Too bad I didn’t know what any of it meant. There was a very tough Draugr in there. I used the flame traps to my advantage, and held him over them with my blocking and bashing. He had a nice battleaxe with frost damage. I really want something like this to disenchant so I can start adding my own frost damage to my weapons. It was simply far too heavy. I have been spoiled by this lightweight silver greatsword. The battleaxe literally weighed double, and I simply couldn’t carry it out.

I had finally made it through the entire ruin, and scored a decent bit of loot, I had almost reached my physical limit of capacity. I went back to a room I remembered with a chest in it, closed the door on one side, and pulled a chain making a steel door fall down into place on the other side. If anything was still alive in here, I should be safe in this room. I had to move a dead Orc out of the way to lay down on the bedroll in the room. Good thing I brought this food for tonight and tomorrow morning.

As I made my way into the morning light, I winced from the brightness as the sun glanced off the snow. I was probably carrying close to 100 pounds, and this walk would be a long one. I set off towards Windhelm again, and wouldn’t you know, not more than 100 paces from the ruin I stayed in last night was an Inn. Kind of strange for it to be out in the middle of nowhere here. I can’t believe I stayed in a dungeon on a bedroll when a warm bed was right around the corner.

I made it back to Windhelm without incident, went straight to the marketplace to sell my loot, buy a few more soul gems, and disenchant some items at the enchanting table. I enchanted some of my loot with simple enchantments, like rings of 1 stamina and such. I can feel myself improving in this skill though. I remembered what Nelacar told me about the Star of Azura. I should try to make my way over to the fort he thinks it’s in.

I went to the Inn for some lunch, then went to find the warehouse owner to tell him I found the pirates. There was a woman there with him, someone ready for battle. She said we would set sail today, and discuss our strategy on the boat. They both seem to be kind of nervous over this battlemage, Haldyn. I can’t wait to wet my blade with the blood of pirates.

I have packed up some food for the trip, and now am on the boat. I’m leaving my journal in a chest on the boat for someone to find in case I don’t make it back.

It’s been a few days, but I’m back safe in Windhelm. The journey to Japhet’s Folley took about a day, and when we arrived, there was a heavy fog covering the island. The captain wanted me to dispose of Haldyn on my own, she said the ship couldn’t advance in this fog and the mercenaries were too scared… milk drinkers.

I jumped over the side of the boat onto some floating ice blocks. This was a precarious situation. I carefully navigated the ice blocks to the island, where I entered the fort through a cave. I was greeted by a few mudcrabs and a brute of a man who almost knocked me out. I was taken off guard by how tough this blood horker pirate was. I resurrected a few of the mudcrabs to help me finish him off.

I tried to raise this pirate, but I found my spell ineffective. It may soon be time to visit a court mage and upgrade my necromancy spell to something more powerful. If there were any more like this, I would have my work cut out for me, especially with Haldyn.

I made my way through a few more rooms and passageways, fighting off more blood horkers equally as tough as the first. I must have been a strike away from losing my life a few times already. I concentrated wholly to keep my berserker rage inside, since I would probably need it later. I came to a room with an upstairs path and a downstairs path.

I chose downstairs first, and was greeted by two blood horkers simultaneously. I could barely stand fighting one of them at a time, so I knew I had to try and separate them. I shot ice spikes at one to try and slow him down, while running back through the fort. I ran through doorways back to the cave entrance of the fort, and luckily for me only one followed. I barely defeated him and spent some time recovering.

I went back and defeated the other one, investigating a locked door down there, but it turned out to be too difficult for me to figure out. Maybe I’ll find a key somewhere. This time I took the upstairs pathway and found Haldyn! I charged him swinging my greatsword down as he showered me with sparks. To my surprise he quickly dropped to only a few swings. He was nothing compared to any average blood horker. How he came to be in charge, I don’t know.

I grabbed a key from his body and went to try the door downstairs, to my dismay it didn’t fit. I’ll never know what was in that room. I remembered another locked door I had passed earlier, and this one worked there. It took me outside where fire was raining down from the sky, my mercenaries must be attacking now that the fog has cleared.

These last few blood horkers were incredibly tough to clean up. I slowly made my way back to the ship, consuming a few health potions to stay in the fight. These blood horkers gave me a run for my gold here, I can respect that.

Entry 14

I have so much gold. Between my payment for defeating the pirates, my sold loot and collected gold from the pirates, my sold enchanted items, and my gold I already owned, I now have around 4,000 gold! The trip back from Japhet’s Folly took about a day and a half, and I was well fed and well rested upon my return.

I purchased a necklace of magic resistance and decided to go back after Queen Freydis’ sword for the Windhelm blacksmith, in that cave full of mages. This necklace would give me an added advantage against them now. I also went to visit the court mage, the Unliving, to inquire about a stronger necromantic spell. I was able to purchase one, and he taught me how to use it, explaining that it would raise more powerful corpses than my current spell. That would have been handy against the blood horkers.

On the way back to the cave, I accidentally wandered too close to a giant camp, and had to run off-course. I took off south through the hot springs area, where I met a bear. I attempted to defeat it but realized it could overpower me. Luckily a fox ran in front of the bear, giving me just enough time to make my escape down a few rocky ledges. I waded through the warm water of the hot springs, making my way away from the bear.

I was now far south of the cave, and decided to check out a nearby landmark to see where I was on my map. It just so happens this landmark was a standing stone called the Atronach. I had heard of these before, but never seen one. I greedily activated this power, which gave me a larger pool of magicka, and an ability to absorb magical effects half the time. This was a considerable power to wield.

Feeling much more confident about that mage cave, I set off to collect the queen’s sword. I ran into a small ruin with a few skeletons outside in the water. I accidentally overshot the cave entrance again, and ended up at an Orc stronghold! This one was Narzulbur, and had an Ebony mine on the property!

It was great spending time with my own people, though surely they wouldn’t understand my necromantic ways, so I was sure to keep that to myself in our conversations. I saw a pair of ebony boots lying on the ground, and a few ebony ingots by the blacksmith’s forge. I spoke with the blacksmith, but it turned out he didn’t actually have any ebony weapons or armor for sale. That’s a shame, I could really use an upgrade. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even have any orcish armor or weapons aside from a handaxe.

I spent the rest of the day talking with the tribe. They were kind enough to provide me dinner and some ale as we spoke by the campfire. They offered me a bed over the forge, which I gladly accepted, knowing it was dangerous to walk around in the dark of night, especially having run into that bear earlier.

Before I left in the morning the kind Orcs gave me breakfast and wished me well on my quest for the queen’s sword. I made my way inside the cave, to see that the mage who previously bested me wasn’t there. I was beginning to get worried, as I hadn’t seen anyone yet. I crept down a ramp and into the mouth of a room with clutter and water in the middle, with a ridge of rock on the outside ring. They saw me before I saw them, it had to have been at least 5 mages in that room, along with a few atronachs.

They must have been having some sort of meeting all congregated together there. I did my best to shoot them with ice spikes, and dodge their return fire. One mage had a powerful lightning staff that I couldn’t dodge. It was then I realized that I had absorbed the hit, thanks to my new Atronach stone ability. My magicka instantly felt refreshed, and I stood in the doorway continuing my ice spike assault. I was finally able to down one mage, and I immediately raised him making sure to use my newer, stronger conjuration spell.

It worked well, and my newly raised undead took the heat off me long enough for me to destroy a few more of the mages. I was now out of magicka, and rushed in with my greatsword to defeat the one with the lightning staff. It sent shocks through my body, nearly paralyzing me. I was able to corner the mage and plow my greatsword through his stomach.

I was absolutely exhausted after this battle, and took some time to recover. I ate a slab of horker meat they had just recently cooked. Eventually I made my way through the cave system, into a large room with some sort of candle display on the center of the floor. I kept expecting a master conjurer to pop out and destroy me, but surprisingly, no one was there.

I took Queen Freydis’ Sword from the chest, unfortunately I had to leave behind the expensive lightning staff to make room for this sword. I looted a lot of soul gems, and planned to enchant some of these mages old boots for practice when I got back to Windhelm. I left the cave, and ran into a few packs of wolves on the way back, which was great. I used the wolf souls to fill all of my empty soul gems.

Passing through Kynesgrove, I was approached by a heavily armored Nord claiming he would teach me a lesson. I was able to defeat him, after learning he was a hired thug. He didn’t have a contract on him, and I couldn’t find any other thugs in the area. Very strange, I can’t guess as to who hired this brute.

I turned the sword in for my reward from the blacksmith, and sold off some loot. I practiced my enchanting with the soul gems and trinkets I had collected. Soon I’ll be ready to start enchanting some of my own gear.

Now I’m in the tavern for some lunch. I don’t think there’s much else for me to do here, so I think I’ll hike to Whiterun with the rest of the daylight.

The Gentleman Owl
Entry 16

My plan to go to Whiterun was sparked by my want for Azura’s Star that Nelacar told me about so very long ago. The fort it was rumored to be hidden in was over that way. I set off to the south along some familiar trails, avoiding a few mage forts, and passing the same deserted mill I investigated a few weeks ago.

Along the road I came across a Nord who said his aunt went into their family burial tomb with a necromancer. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to con me or not. I decided it would be worth investigating anyway. If there was a necromancer in there, I wanted whatever treasures he was hording.

Golldir and I fought our way through his risen ancestors. I made certain not take anything from the tomb, I didn’t want to disrespect his family in front of his face after all. I also made sure not to use any of my own necromancy. Not only because this man doesn’t like it, but because I can’t take chances with anyone seeing me use this power. Who knows who they might tell.

We made quick work through the dungeon, mostly thanks to my silver greatsword and its bonus damage to undead foes. Golldir confronted the necromancer, a Dark Elf, and we began a long battle. The Dark Elf released wave after wave of Draugr on us, and was shooting occasional ice spikes as well as teleporting around the battlefield. At some point in this battle, I began to see red. My berserker rage was coming, and I knew it. I wanted it to take over me, surge through my body, break my enemies.

When all was said and done, Golldir lay on the floor at my feet, next to the Dark Elf. I can’t say whether or not I killed him. I don’t feel bad for Golldir, his tomb was now clean thanks to me. I took a key from the Dark Elf’s body and opened a door and chest. I found a new pair of steel plate gauntlets, a worthy upgrade from my old iron ones, though 2 pounds heavier. I also found something even more valuable, a diamond! I had never seen one before!

I left the tomb with a pocketful of assorted jewels and soul gems. A great haul indeed. The next thing I came upon on my journey to Whiterun was a Troll in a river. It was standing outside of a cave. I found a shallow spot, crossed the river, and slayed the troll. It was easier than I had expected. Trolls are slower than bears. I decided to explore this cave, slaying a few more trolls on the inside. I picked up a few more pieces of loot, nothing substantial, a few valuable scrolls and potions.

Further along the river, a bandit stopped me to tell me it was 200 gold to cross along to Whiterun. Well, being the Orc I am, and with my confidence from the upturned horns of my Helm of Yngol, I decided to threaten the bandit. This didn’t work, and soon there were about 5 bandits swarming me. One was a chief with a powerful frost enchanted greatsword. I used my conjuration to raise the fallen bandits as I fought. Eventually, they all fell at my feet.

The sun was beginning to set, and from the top of this bandit tower I could see Whiterun in the distance. Inside the tower I found a bow enchanted with frost damage. I decided to take this to disenchant since it weighed less than the steel greatsword the chief had. I will eventually add a frost enchantment to my silver greatsword. I took some food from the bandits for dinner and set on my way again.

A conjuration mage attacked me from behind a standing stone, he was only an apprentice and I dealt with him quickly. I pondered the ability to raise hordes of dead to fight at my side, but I decided to stick with the Atronach power for the time being at least. I still need some more magic resistance gear.

Outside the gates of Whiterun, a High Elf attacked me with fireballs. I ran from him and eventually the guards intervened, killing him. As I tried to enter Whiterun, guards told me they weren’t allowing anyone in or out of the city because of dragon rumors. I ended up having to pay 200 gold to get in.

I dumped all my loot off with this creepy store clerk named Belethor. I went up to Dragonsreach and spoke with the court mage there. He taught me two new destruction spells called frost cloak and ice storm. This came at a hefty price of around 2000 gold. Luckily I had some enchanted items of my own to sell and make some of that gold back.

I headed over to the Bannered Mare Inn, where I sit now sipping ale by the fire. Tomorrow I’ll go to a smaller town called Riverwood, and from there I will make my way across the lake to Ilinalta's Deep, the fort I hope holds Azura’s Star.

Entry 17

I made my way to Riverwood, sold off some of my remaining gemstones from the previous day at the trader there. Belethor simply didn’t have enough gold for me to sell all my loot through him. I checked in at the tavern and got some lunch for the road. I crossed back over the river and started making my way off the trails around the lake. My map had showed it was on the north side, so I thought this would be quicker.

I ran into a kind old lady living in a shack, she told me it was nice to have visitors. Shortly after that I found some wolves whose souls I harvested for my gem collection. I saw a fire going on a small island in the middle of the lake. It looked like a few hunters lived there. I had heard from the locals that it was called “Hrisskar’s Camp”. He was a popular Nord folklore legend of past.

I made my way to Ilinalta’s Deep, and to my surprise the fort was submerged almost entirely. I hope I wouldn’t have to swim through any of this. I clambered up onto the low platform and plunged down the trapdoor. I saw a dark room, lightly glazed with a few inches of water.

I made my way through a passageway and fought off a few skeletons and necromancers. Great. At least they aren’t vampires. I was enjoying my Atronach power of magic absorption immensely. It came in handy against these mages.

I progressed through a few more rooms and corridors, mostly using my ice spikes, as their magic hit me and recharged me, it seemed like I had an almost limitless amount of magicka. I had found a good deal of soul gems, including a few filled common gems. Before this I had only found lesser and petty.

Eventually I came upon a room divided in two by a flood. There was a bridge drawn up and the pull chain was across the water. It looked like I could walk on a beam on the wall to the right and make it across the water without falling in. That was when I noticed the necromancer’s blue hands glowing. I jumped back to my side of the room just as he launched an ice storm at me.

Narrowly avoiding that, I whipped out my own ice spikes and began returning fire. He seemed to specialize in frost magic as well, using only ice spike and ice storm. We had somewhat of a mages duel here, lasting an hour or so. Brutally slinging magic back and forth at one another. I hit him many more times than he hit me it seemed, especially with my rate of absorption. He simply would not fall. I could see from where I was standing that he was a Dark Elf, so he couldn’t have any frost resistance.

Finally I saw him pull out a glowing yellow hand, surely this would be a restoration spell. Before he was able to cast, I struck him with a few more ice spikes, dropping him to the ground. I used the beam to the right to successfully navigate over the water, and approached his corpse. To my surprise, he was an ascendant necromancer! I tried my raise dead spell on him, but he was far too powerful. He had some good loot, including a nice soul gem.

I came upon another area of the fort, the Deluge. Traversing the tunnels and rooms led me to another necromancer, standing around a large pile of skeleton bones. It was just my hunch that he might try to raise some for combat. I backtracked and raised one of the weaker mages I had recently slain. Together we charged the man, he was wielding shock magic though. He raised 3 or 4 skeletons at once, I couldn’t keep track of them all. I quickly ran out of magicka, even with my absorption because of his powerful lightning blasts. I had to switch to my greatsword, when he switched to frost magic. This was infuriating, as I was now too slow to reach him.

I circled around a pedestal and used some ice spikes to dispatch the skeletons. My raised mage was long gone by now. I carefully fought with magic against the necromancer, who luckily was still using frost magic. My magicka replenished by his attacks, I was able to keep up a constant barrage of freezing pain against him. Finally he fell. This one was a necromage, and held on his corpse something that intrigued me immensely. A soul gem of the likes I’ve never seen. It was midnight black, but at the same time radiated some purple sheen or glow. It was a filled black soul gem. I don’t know what it takes to fill one of these, but I can imagine.

I made my way upstairs and into the throne room where the skeleton of Malyn Varen was seated at his throne. I also saw the Star of Azura. It was a magnificent piece, a soul gem housed inside of some spiral shaped container. I stowed it carefully in my pack and climbed the ladder back to the outside world.

I now stand on top of a tall tower, overlooking water on one side, and a hefty drop to concrete on the other. I decided to eat lunch up here, with a nice view of the lake.
