I signed up just to say how much I have been enjoying both this journal and Hrisskar. You have given me an entirely new outlook on Skyrim and are making me want to do another play through, though I doubt I could handle something as intense as you have gone through.

Thanks! You should do another playthrough even if you just use some of the restrictions. Remember, playing games should be fun, so do whatever makes it fun for you. My recommendation for Skyrim is to limit your carry ability first and foremost, then get rid of the HUD (or at least the crosshair), then forbid fast travel, and finally .. enforce penalties for dying.

After reading some of Hrisskar's adventures, I have forbidden myself from fast traveling and it already made a world of difference. I get so much more immersed in the game and get to see much more happenstance. That, and I don't have to see the loading screen as much. :p

Yeah, fast-travel really puzzles me. As gamers we have always wanted these large open worlds to explore, but then we get that and we resort to teleporting around the world from location to location. It's pretty ironic.

Anyways, glad you're giving that a try. The more you do the more you'll find the game creates some pretty amazing experiences for you.

Turdas Afternoon / City of Sadrith Mora

I arrived in this strange Telvanni city last night. A few days at sea aboard a vessel sailing from Dagon Fel got me here. I had no plans on staying. In fact, the shorter my stay the better. My employer frequents this city and it would not look good if he ran into me now and I didn't even have shoes on my feet.

Speaking of that, I've remedied that issue. After spending the night in the local inn, I headed out into the city this morning to do some shopping. First on my list was a pair of boots. I would have been happy with any pair of boots, but I found a nice set with steel armor and went with those. I also found a replacement weapon, a sturdy steel war axe. No enchantment, but it will have to do for now.

I was running low on gold and needed to make sure I had enough to sail out from Sadrith Mora. While I enjoy the oddness of this city, there is little opportunity for me here, being an outlander. I would be much better off on the western coast of Vvardenfell.

But I wanted to outfit myself the best I could before I left. I've spent enough days now fighting to survive with nothing but the clothes on my back. So I headed to an apothecary and sold off all of the ingredients I could. I even considered selling one of my samples of vampire ash. They are worth a lot after all. But I couldn't do it, not after losing all of my other samples.

Still, I managed to generate enough gold to make a few more purchases. I obtained some nice steel greeves and a set of steel gauntlets. I nearly purchased some steel pauldrons as well, but decided to hold off and make sure I kept some extra gold in my pocket. In fact, as I sit on the dock and write this I'm thinking I should head back into the city and pick up a magicka potion.

I should hurry, though. This ship is leaving for Ebonheart with the outgoing tide, and I plan to be on it.

Loredas Night / City of Ebonheart

We just arrived in Ebonheart in the middle of the night. I'm going to have to stay in the inn tonight check the docks in the morning. I'd like to catch another ship headed toward Gnaar Mok if possible. I may have to walk it, though. I'll have less than fifty coins after I rent a room tonight.

I wouldn't mind the walk. I've had about enough of sailing.

Loredas Morning / City of Ebonheart

Looks like I'm going to be walking. There's a ship head to Hla Oad, but for the price it's just not worth it. Although a few nights in Morrowind's wilds may change my mind on that.

I'm going to try to make it to Pelagiad tonight. Something tells me I'll be putting this new armor to the test.

Sundas Evening / Village of Gnaar Mok

Well that did not go at all as planned. After a treacherous two day journey from Ebonheart to Gnaar Mok via Balmora ... by foot ... I arrived at the familiar old door of the Druegh-jigger's Rest. Inside is not a place for the faint of heart. It's a den of thieves and muggers and brigands. But it's where my western coast contact hangs out, and I needed to pick up some leads. No point in coming back to Morrowind to just wander aimless and hope I ran into a vampire. They aren't exactly as common as mudcrabs.

But as things often go in places like this, there was a misunderstanding and in a heartbeat weapons were drawn. I was facing the wrath of three shady thieves guild members, and the exit was blocked. Either they were leaving the shack alive or I was. And I didn't plan on staying.

I'm a capable fighter, but no matter how skilled you are things get tricky quickly when you are outnumbered. It is in these moments that you have to think to survive. You can't simply rely on your skill with a blade or your strength or speed. You have to fight intelligently.

Knowing I was outnumbered, my first goal was to reduce the number of opponents as quickly as possible. I had essentially two methods to attack them. Fire. And axe. Both were basically equally capable, but my flame spell would cause harm to multiple targets, whereas my axe could only harm one at a time. So I decided to use flame first, and position myself in the shack to draw my attackers together as much as possible.

Blinded by their eagerness to kill me, the thieves missed my tactical positioning. I'm certain they thought their numbers had me easily beat, and to be honest, I wasn't feeling all that confident either.

But I had no choice. It was fight or die, and I will always choose to fight.

My flame spells lit up the interior of the shack and burned my antagonists. A woman with a longsword. A khajiit with a silver dagger. A man in robes with a bow. They all attacked me together, and despite my onslaught of fire, began to best me.

As my magicka began to weaken I made my critical move. I located the best of my health potions and took it quickly. Then I produced my axe as the potion took effect. Sword and dagger and arrow continued to eat away at my life, and their strikes prevent me from delivering my own. But finally I managed to swing my axe and to my surprise the woman with the longsword fell to it. The flame must have injured her more than I suspected.

Next I went to work on the khajiit, positioning myself so that he was between me and the man. This made me a difficult target for his arrows, and allowed my to work my axe against the cat. I had to find another health potion, but soon enough I brought the khajiit down as well. And although the man was decent enough with his bow, it was a poor choice for a brawl of a fight in a tiny little shack. It took some extra work and another health potion, but he fell to my axe as well.

Now I'm standing here in the shack, bodies littering the floor, and I need to figure out my next move. These three may have been thieves but I'm still likely to be issued a bounty if people find them. That means I can't stay in Gnaar Mok. I'll need to leave. And not on a boat either. I'll need to leave late in the night when I can use the darkness to slip out of town.

The question is where to go next? My contact is dead, and Morrowind is not a friendly place for an outlander with no contacts. I have a few hours to think things over before it will be late enough to leave. It's too bad all of these chests are locked up in here. I'll bet these bandits have some nice valuables stored up inside. Shame.

Middas Night / Bandit Camp

I managed to slip out of Gnaar Mok unseen a few days ago. Been on the road to Gnisis ever since. Yesterday I ran into a khajiit on the road who made a comment that is haunting me still. He referred to me as an outlaw and mentioned my notoriety. I can only assume word of my actions in Gnaar Mok has spread. That is not a good thing.

It's been a rough few days traveling the wild western coast of Morrowind. Nix hounds abound, and I have to deal with racers and rats as well. It's taken a toll on my body and my armor.

So when I stumbled across the camp tonight, and saw the three dark elves standing around the fire, I thought maybe I could join them for some company. I was also hoping they had a repair hammer I could use or purchase.

Instead, as I approached them they drew their weapons and charged me. Without warning or provocation. So I prepared my flame spell. It is the best choice when faced with multiple opponents, as each burst will affect all of them if they are close enough together.

But luckily I remember that dark elves have a natural resistance to fire. Had I continued with my strategy I would probably be dead right now. The flame was not hurting them very much at all.

So out came my axe and I started on the woman. She had drawn her weapon first and would feel my disdain first. After a half hour or so they were all dead and I was shaking from the ordeal. How appropriate that it started raining on me at that point. Thankfully the bandits already had a fire going and I stoked it to keep the rain from dousing it.

I'm estimating I'm more than halfway to Gnisis. It's a bit out of the way, and I'm counting on that right now. My hope is that word of my encounter in Gnaar Mok hasn't made it this far. If it has, and if the imperial legion has been notified, I may have to consider some extreme alternatives.

Fredas Afternoon / Ald Velothi

Things are bad. After being attacked again highwaymen yesterday, and spending the night in their camp, I made my way into Ald Velothi this afternoon.

The first person I spoke too was afraid of me, and mentioned my wanted status. And the second and third as well. Everyone in this little fishing village somehow knows about what happened in Gnaar Mok. That's very disconcerting.

I can't get the local boat captain to offer me travel services, and I can't continue on to Gnisis. If my new reputation has preceded me in this little village, then the guards in Gnisis will surely be watching for me. The rumor is that my bounty is over two thousand septims. I have less than one hundred. There is no way to pay the fine.

Unbelievably I may have to leave Morrowind just as I've arrived.

Thank you for this wonderful journal. I was really sad when Ji'Jarra died,I couldnt believe how I got attached to that character, can't even imagine how was it for you then  I got to the part where you're beginning your vampire character that killed her,and can't wait to read more. You even inspired me to start my own journal with all those restrictions. Gonna be starting it soon since I have a lot of free time at the moment. Once again, thank you for this masterpiece. Keep up the good work. :)

I was sad when Ji'Jarra died too! I hated enforcing the rule. I was really getting into that character. But that's part of the draw of playing this way, it just heightens the connection to the character.

I'll keep an eye out for your journal.

To everyone else: work took over and then I got sick this week, so no gaming for me. d:sadface:
