Hello fellow forumers. I decided to create a thread that would talk about the civil war in Skyrim. So I want you all to debate, which side should my new character take, or with who anyone should take. I would love the forum people's input.

There's a 7 page thread raging at this very moment, about this. It started with whether Ulfric should be considered evil, and has branched out. You may find it entertaining.

I find Stormcloaks more fun. I don't know why.... I just do.

There are several threads about this very topic. Maybe one of them should just be stickied for convenience.

I feel like doing this one more time:

I am going to throw a hypothetical scenario at you all. For this activity, I want you all to forget what you learned, put yourself inside your character's shoes. Knowing nothing of what is going on except that the one Imperial officer wants to cut your head off, which side you choose?

So, I shouldn't know that Hadvar says you're not on the list, implying that you shouldn't be executed? I only bring it up since it's the line before the Captain sends you to the block.
Obviously if you leave with Hadvar, you learn more about Nords who are still loyal to the Empire, but what about the other events in Helgen?

If I were to ONLY remember the Captain ordering my execution, then yes, that certainly puts the Imperials in a bad light.

you can add that in there, but there is no reason to say that a mere soldier represents the legion, for all we know the execution was on orders of Tulius saying "Execute anyone with Ulfric, to leave to chance they may join the rebels."

Oh, I agree about a mere soldier not representing the legion, but I'm not sure I would judge an entire army and empire on one captain's orders either. Skyrim had always been a part of the empire and only started the war because the empire bowed under the Thalmar threat and banned the worship of Talos. My current character is a Nord, so I assume he'd know Skyrim's history or at least the more recent parts of it.

I know all that's been said and done already, but I'm just not one to jump to conclusions. Armies take orders and execute them as efficiently as possible. I was caught in the same trap that caught rebel soldiers. It's all about perspective.

I have already stated my full opinion on another thread, and don't feel like looking for it, or re-typing it here. So I'll just state my basic opinion of, empire > stormcloaks. Main thing that swayed my opinion was reading 'the bear of markarth', I just can't support Ulfric after reading that.

Well, if I read correctly-it would seem that you already did play on the Empire's side in which I would say why not play as A Stormcloak Rebel? No harm in starting out fresh & learning both sides of the the conflict.......

Throwing this here, just to make sure everyone gets it.

Let's look at the game with a more real world aspect: If the US was the empire and ruled over the Americas and the Chinese the Thalmor and the Chinese instigated a Civil war in Mexico, yet one madman with an armory of Nuclear weapons is threatening to destroy the world, like Alduin/Volkihar Vampires, but only you know that is going on and what it would mean. What is going to be higher on your "Must Stop" list: The madman with the nukes, or the Mexican Civil War?
