So, my Riverwood fell under attack recently... by a dragon. Or more like four dragons, since the first one called for reinforcements (mod) and got three. For the first time ever in over 2000 hours all three reinforcements stayed until they got killed.

One of the dragons was particularly nasty, as it kept using Storm Call (Deadly Dragons users will know the species). The three other didn't have elemental attacks, but they used a super-powered version of Unrelenting Force, and a paralyzing Shout. Add to that their other abilities and everything DCO decided to throw at us... let's just say that if it wasn't for "Run for Your Lives", Riverwood would be a ghost town. Only Delphine, Orgnar, Ralof, the kids and possibly the Valerius siblings would be alive.

Pics or it didn't happen? Well, here you go:

I spent most of my time at Alvor's smithy; it provided sufficient cover and was a literal life-saver.

After the battle finally ended, I spent quite some time searching for the guards' bodies, as I wanted to honour them. I only found two, and dropped all my 100 blue (colour mattered here) mountain flowers around them:

Riverwood post-battle (the blue meter is just Frostfall doing its thing):

Export of the heartfelt "In Memoriam" I wrote in my in-game journal (my English is not perfect):

In Memoriam

The brave Stormcloak guards of Riverwood. You fought valiantly, heroically and until the very end. No one could have done better than you did. And no Nord could have left this world in a more glorious way. Four dragons would be too much for anyone; just one dragon would be way more than most could take.
I will personally make sure you're never forgotten.

Do enjoy the glories of Sovngarde; you've certainly earned it. I may see you there one day, but even I won't, you will stay in my memories. Forever.

Has your Skyrim fallen victim to such tragedies? And am I the only one who gets really emotional over in-game events?

I haven't had something to the same scale, but I tend to be highly protective of my favorite towns. Riverwood is special to me as it's the first town I ever saw and Whiterun is my adoptive hometown in Skyrim. I get pissed when vampires, bandits and/or dragons attack my town.

Don't feel alone in the whole getting emotional thing. My Ebony Warrior tribute post was a pretty good example of one of my more emotional experiences in the game.

I like the blue mountain flower idea. I tend to have tribute stuff I do at different times. For instance during the end of the Companions quest line when you visit Ysgramor's Tomb, before I leave I place my sword I've used in the story up to that point at the feet of the Ysgramor statute. Considering that my character's bond with his weapon is similar to the samurai spiritual connection between warrior and weapon, he is leaving a piece of his soul in tribute when he does that..

I haven't had destruction on quite that scale before, but one time I got pretty intense about Rorikstead. It was a no fast travel character on her way back to Whiterun in pouring rain who noticed lots of pretty flashy lights going up in the hill around the town. So I walked up there and saw the lights and nothing else, and was quite confused. I got bored waiting for something to happen and went into the inn to warm up and dry off (mod) chatting to one of the NPCs (Rorik or his friend, I think) who said Rorikstead was not able to withstand a dragon attack.

So she moved on, and when I was a fair way away from the road I finally remembered those pretty flashy lights meant a dragon was being resurrected. I turned around and in the distance I could see Alduin was leaving after resurrecting a dragon. Cue one sprint back to Rorikstead and epic dragon battle which claimed the lives of both guards but no one else. Everything just combined to make one epic roleplay experience I found quite memorable.

Another time I entered Lakeview Manor right as a bandit chief spoke to me, with the result he ended up entering the house. He then proceeded to chase my screaming son Blaise up the stairs slashing at him. Yes, I was pissed. That character was an illusion mage, so the chief ended up cowering and screaming against a wall. I never got to even hurt him because I was not the only one enraged that my son had been attacked. My housecarl, steward, husband and dog all got there before me and hacked him to pieces.

I play on console so I'm not able to get damage quite like that. However I too get emotional about in-game events so don't feel bad. I remember after I finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line, which was a few weeks ago and my first time ever doing it, I was haunted for a little over a week by the events that transpired. Both my character and myself felt like they were family in a way, and so when (SPOILER ALERT)
everyone but the Redguard dude and Babette died, and I had to kill Astrid it just really messed with my head. I felt horrible and slightly responsible, like if my character could've gotten away before the Penitus Oculatus got her maybe it would've been different. But I know better now and I'm over it, although I still miss them. Astrid I have mixed feelings for though. :/

Once I kept attacking a Rorikstead guard with lightening, but at range so that he never detected me. Upon his death his buddy turned on me, & with no magicka left (VL in daylight) I literally ran for the hills. He followed me into the Reach.
Kept running (had loads of stamina potions, but not magicka:confused:) but he continued his pursuit, until I had even began to develop a respect for him. A true Nord, following a foe to his... well death.
Deciding I would tour my new buddy around Markarth, I took him off the Vampire-crowded route & up a hill. I found a fort & made plans to go inside & regenerate my stats. Foolishly I thought it would be under Imperial control, considering the CW status. Nope, Forsworn.
Anybody played Halo Reach? This guard went out like a certain character at the end of the game. I crouched behind a wall as this guy killed two Forsworn then decapitated a third, whilst under constant fire from two archers & a mage. For a moment he nearly turned his attention back to me, but then the mage approached, with a Frost Atronach on support. Shield & Sword in hand this guy takes on the Walking Himalayn whilst the mage stands back using defensive spells. Archers fire on, & three Forsworn (including a Briarheart) come round the corner. Nobl- I mean Nord Badass guard dude outlasts FA summon time, & takes out the mage only to collapse with low health. At this point the archers spot me & re-aim, but before firing on me ( & killing yours truly) I watch this Guard pounce on a Forsworn with that blade-through-the-chest assassination, before Briarheart spins him round & buries an axe in his chest.
Had no flowers on respawn, so my tribute for that guard was to return to that fort & slaughter the f*** out of those Forsworn.
