Is Vald that fellow you met in that cave full of spriggans or is he someone I haven't met?
Valdimar, your Housecarl from Morthal. He is awesome.
Oh, embarrassingly, I've never used Dawnstar and Morthal's housecarls, too lazy... When I find them I am already in a level in which I am so destructive that asking them to follow me equals blasting them with Soul Tear right away

But anyway, Valdimar begins combat with an alteration spell, so he might be durable enough to do the same thing as Talvas (the guy I mentioned before) and his conjurations, which is soaking damage and letting you attack the EW in peace. But he isn't essential, so be ready to step in in case he gets low. Also, EW is immune to Bend Will (I didn't know and died), so don't rely on that.

If you feel like hunting Karstaag down, the Standing Stone of the Ritual might be of use, with all the Rieklings you kill, and you can use the Aethereal Crown to keep that active stocked literally in your backpack ready for use. DO NOT use Mehrune's Razor to kill Karstaag. He is apparently immune. (After dying so many times I looked it up and it turned out Karstaag was one of the few who were immune to the dagger's effect -.-)

Anyway, if you don't feel like gathering all those items/people/buffs, you can always max your Conjuration, and make sure you keep him busy with atronachs long enough for you and Vald to chunk down his health (though he will heal back up fairly often). There is also a Troll and a Dragon nearby when you fast travel, and you can start combat right away to take advantage of their distraction. Or summon Durnehviir/Odahviing and use Storm Call (the Vigil is still outside, so why not taking advantage of this?). A hero of Sovngarde can also tank his attacks for a while. I don't know whether or not he is immune to disarm, but I think pickpocketing his gear is possible, so you can leave him completely naked before the duel!

Or FusRohDah him from the cliff! It will take a good portion of his HP away! Beast/Vampire form take him down especially easily too, but if you plan on staying human, at least empower yourself with Dragon form before combat, and use your racial power (histskin helped me when I ran out of potions). Anyway while he stands back up from a staggering blow or a shout, use your power attacks, don't waste stamina while he has his full defense, or he will just hit you as hard as you hit him, and render everything you did worthless (because he heals his damage back).

But some of these tips depend on how your character fights too... :/
I read that you can't use Dragon Aspect on him as it glitches out and he regains all of his health. Also if you Fus him off the mountain he will recover his health unless you start beating on him BEFORE he even gets up. Which means you pretty much have to race down the mountain to catch him..which is almost impossible. I think next time I will run down the mountain so he can't Fus me off it.

Vald has great Ice spike attacks.. (He actually can predict a dragon's trajectory while flying and never misses). He will use scrolls you give him and his magic levels up quite substantially. Only thing I don't like that he does is when fighting Draugr, he uses some sort of fear spell on them and they run away...making it difficult to track them down.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
I really wish I'd had a good fight with the guy. I took him down in two shots. He just stood there.
Wow.. a lucky glitch?

I do not know. I wanted to battle him! I was on Master, too. He turned into an enemy, but I powered up my bow to >1000. Maybe a bit too much.

Okay. I missed one. Never done Varstagg and I've logged over 4K hours on SR.

You've never gotten Vald's lucky dagger?

OK.. so I took on Karstaag, and won without dying once.. PHEW! He was tough. I went in with Dragon Aspect, my legendary enhanced Dwarven crossbow, A flame Atronach and Valdimar.

Karstaag never really bothered with me as my atronach and Vald kept him relatively occupied. I made sure I ran right back as soon as I placed the skull on the throne. Good thing, as Vald wasn't so smart and got ragdolled across the courtyard.

the reflect blows ability is the biggest challenge usually, plus he heals regularly. If your weapon is massively strong, you end up killing yourself for him. Forsworn armor probably wouldn't cut it though unless you have alteration spells in place like dragonflesh or something

If you want to fight him "man to man" you pretty much need to utilize all of the skills in the game. Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing, etc. You need VERY good gear. I was able to defeat him without potions (I never use potions in Skyrim), but it was hard. Like raido said, the reflect damage perk is (at least for me) the absolute hardest part of the fight. After that, it's his reach and healing ability. (He has almost the reach of a greatsword with a 1h weapon, makes it extremely hard to dance with him).

I also fought him with Dragon Aspect, mostly because I didn't know about the glitch, and it typically extended the fights for ridiculous amounts of time. Me being the elitist masochist that I am didn't mind.

It is also important to NEVER give him the high ground, or he WILL Fus ro Dah you off the side of the cliff.

A magic sapping weapon is immensely helpful for keeping him from healing, as well as Health Absorb. I really don't recommend dual wielding, as out DPSing him is VERY hard, and you miss out on the blocking perks (such as slow motion). I can't remember if he carries potions or not, but if he does I recommend stealing them if you have no compunctions with the lack of honor.

Don't try to range fight him, as his paralyze is brutal. Try to keep him from shieldbashing you too, and I heavily advice carrying extra weapons.

On Master and Legendary, you need enough HP and armor to survive his damage reflection and enough so that you don't trigger finishing moves. LOTS of stamina is also highly recommended.

I still haven't tried him. How about the staff of Magnus and a stack of black soul gems? I bet Windshear would stagger him too if you don't have much stamina

I have. Not in sneak atack, i talk to him then we fight, set in max difculty.

Stats:
lvl 81 Brenton, lord stone
Nightgale Armor
100 skill and perks in one handed, bow, sneak, 2 in steamina and un in health 0 in magicka and magic resist from restoration tree
Chilrend, mirak staff, nightgale bow, nightgale sword
Magic used: Dragon Aspect, Dragonskin, some lighting and frozt atack

How i did it: Trow the tentakles in floor to avoid him getting melee, atack whit bow, change to chilrend and use frozt to drain his stamina, some lighting to draing his magicka. Took a while but i outlasted him.

The second time whit werewolf form, call of the pack, and keep using the power atacks to stagger him, used dragon skin to avoid the damage of his cloack spells

sorry for bad english, no my native languge

I defeated the Ebony Warrior (she says half-halfheartedly)

So I crafted my Dragonscale armour and made it Legendary, upped the damage on all my weapons.. and headed off to the Ebony Warrior. I tried four different ways and died each time. One time I almost had him but it glitched out and I died, even though my health bar was on full! I almost rage quit at that stage, but then I did something I swore I would NEVER do.

I got so pissed off I turned down my game difficulty to novice...NOVICE!!! I killed him using "slow time" and two shots with my Crossbow.

Then I looted his body.... WTH? None of his items should make him as OP'd as he is!! OK I am trying to justify lowering my difficulty a bit. Ok not just a bit... Master to Novice....

Don't judge me..

I feel so cheap
