I think the game is appropriately challenging when it should be. For instance, dungeon bosses, trolls, giants, are all hard but manageable once you figure out a sound tactic. But I've yet to die so many times to a mere group of bandits.

Is this intentional? I get two shotted by a bandit thug and one shotted by the chief when I'm wearing all heavy armor with a shield. I literally died at least 15 times trying to clear a hold of bandits (a minor Imperial quest).

What level are you? I too had trouble killing groups, but remember that sneak bow attacks deal nice damage. If you have been leveling your bow skill then sneak up and plug a few of them. Dont run in screaming, try the sneaky route.

I have noticed there are different types of bandits just like Drauger's. A normal Bandit named "Bandit" is NOWHERE near a "Bandit Marauder". I will say that your skills with your shield combined with the difficulty you are playing on will have a huge effect. Being good with the shield is a BIG one. Some fights with trolls ill get absolutely clobbered only to reload the save and really focus on my tactics with the shield and walk away with full health. It's all about timing and picking where you want to fight. Of course you drop the caster's first (if there is any) turn a corner and get away from those archers and face the melee one on one. As a shield carrier you should absolutely destroy 2hander bandits. If you dont have Quick Reflexes perk, get it. It really helps ALOT. Trying to fight them out in the open is a no no. Find a hallway to protect your back and do it 300 style. Block , slash, block, bash...1 and 2 and 3 and 4... haha

Good way to take car of banits.

- Almost all banits will have some hillside to their 'home'. Sneak up on this and see the banits (usually 3 or 4)
- Now sneak/bow is always good. You can enchant your bow with fire/ice damage or aborb health for extra power.
- Now target one at a time, I don't suggest hitting one, then going for another. Just focus on killing one.
- I reccamend having a heal spell like 'Fast Heal' in your 'quick items menu' and run and use that occansionaly. You can go ahead and use that, or potions.
- If your still having trouble, I reccamend taking time off the quest to boost states (sneak, archery, ect.). Or to get better weapons or/and armor.

Exactly, use common tactics to avoid getting overwhelmed. I always look for choke points and try to fight them 1 or 2 at a time. Having a Hirling or Companion doesn't hurt either.

Skyrim's inclusion of companions made hiring or taking someone with you almost a must for these kind of things (I go through the same thing, except not with bandits -as much- but bands of enemy mages...now there's a pain!). Just be real slow and patient, don't rush in and start wailing on everyone you see. Lure a few enemies out, pick 'em off one by one, and don't be afraid to leave the area to heal and rest up. Also take advantage of any traps (door traps) and places of leverage that you could use to your advantage.

agreed, i use a dwarven bow(27, upgraded) chanted with frost dmg(20), plus a sneak perk thats 3x, that 141 dmg using the bow alone, i frequently use steel arrows, but im bout to upgrade form those, and you can multi that if i mng to get several sneak attacks. darken the whole place, shoot from one area and move, telling my little anoyance to stay in the background. I cleared a whole dungeon sneak bowing, against relatively high lvl bandits. one was a bandit chieftan. somehting about killing the lighthouse fire and crashing a cargo boat, that quest.

Yea remember that this isn't Oblivion, not everything is scaled to your level. That being said there are going to be places YOU DON'T WANNA GO INTO YET! Until you get some levels, experience, and awesome equipment under your belt you need to be careful wandering around the countryside. Save often and slowly root around through places if you want to explore. If it turns out a location's inhabitants are too powerful just move on. You can always come back later. All locations on your map are marked with a *cleared* if you emptied the place out before. Besides that you will be sent to most locations through a quest sooner or later.

Doing a Companions quest I get to the end fight. One that gave me fits with my first character ( a Breton Battle Cleric) this time around though I'm using my Orc Blademaster. I take off from Aela and use my Berserker Rage. I open the door and charge the first Silver Hand. Instant Kill. Then I drop 2 of the archer before the Boss confronts me. I waloop him with my axes, which is tries desparately to parry with his shield. Aela is twanging away with her bow on him. Then I get a sweet ass cut scene as I knock him on his knees then give his ole head a nice scissor chop! Pure Awesomeness right there.

That's because you should beware of some bandits more than others, A normal bandit my Dremora lord can kill in about 1 hit. A "Bandit marauder" Took out both of my Dremora lords and nearly killed me until I Ice-stormed her.
So use the sneak/Bow against the Marauder as they're usually pretty tough.

i never used a sheild. ive always thought the best defense is a good offense. take a few out with a bow then break out with the axe mace combo. i used to have to carry about twenty potions on me. but i got my ass handed to me by a lone kajit outside of whiterun somewhere at lvl 20. i need to go find him again and see what happens now that im at lvl 40

My Wood Elf has never had a companion. Hates them. They get in the way.
Bandits fall like wheat.
One at a time, with a bit of patience.
The big ones? Bah. Sneak up behind and slice their throats... nice and quiet.
They're staring right at your hiding place and won't move? Lob an arrow down the hall behind them, and change postions when they run off to check on the noise.
They start to chase you? Use their traps against them. Those swinging, spiked walls? Awesome.

hehe, i love going back and showing them who the bossman is after a few days worth of play time. The shield mechanic is a LOT better than it was in oblivion, though. I'm saving using the bow for my next build, pure sneak killer khajit. I've heard bows are a lot more efficient vs. oblivion, also.

i think they are but my point of aim point of impact are way off when using the zoom perk.(dont know if the arc is causing it or if arrows have a distance limit. i dunno) but i love the rest of the perks for bows.

I don't have a major noticable problem with the zoom perk, but I do notice a little difference. I shoot bow in real life, I know the mechanics of it. That marker is for about 20-40 yards after that you'll have to raise accordingly. And for moving targets shoot in front of the target, conversly, if you ate moving shoot behind the target. Don't think just trust, lol.
