Actually, was thinking of taking him on in VL form. Two flying undead clash in the heart of Solstheim... Gonna be epic!
Do note that I only recently started my vampire char, so such a challenge will obviously take a few days... looking forward to it though!
I like it. That would be a good battle

While I've never had trouble with Ahzidal, I've had problems with Zahkriisos in the past. But THIS time, recently I fought Vokun, and was amazed with his power. I approached him for melee combat and my world just exploded. Everything exploded. I couldn't tell what the hell was happening. To this day, I don't give my helper a staff of fireballs.
Any mention of Zahkriisos makes me want to post my top secret picture of the priest's night job:

That was TOO good. Almost as good as when Joe put the mask of Clavicus Vile on Jack. Better, perhaps.

While I can't say it's quite the level of near-nude hairy man with axes, it is approaching that level

I didn't have any real trouble with him, I guess because I make it my life's mission to get multiple resistances before I really go anywhere. I usually get monkeystomped by bandit chiefs, though.

Why? Dr. D'Irsei finds it easy to encounter them sitting at their desks in their keeps, running their mouths about how they plan to spend the money they were supposed to be paying their dental bills with.

They make such grandiose plans - vowing to never pay for services again. But the good Dr. corrects them. And when their cohorts try to prevent her from doing her duty she...corrects them too.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
Isn't weird how one person has an experience like that while the next kills Azidal in like, 3 blows? I didn't have any trouble with Azidal, but I ALWAYS have trouble with Malkoran on the Break of Dawn quest. One shot of ice storm kills. Last time, I funneled all the shades up to the hallway, and then kept Malkoran busy with my Dremora. That did him in after about 4 deaths. AND then, when he's dead, do you get Ice storm? NOOOOOOOO.

He's got a loincloth and a masque. What more could a person need, and how better to accessorize than dual wood axes? Do we need to repost Joe's pic as a reminder?

Granted, its no ragged trousers and wooden katana setup, so maybe it falls short of your standards.

In their defense, wood axes may not do very much base damage, but they swing at the speed of daggers. >:-D

Are you saying that it doesn't matter what you wield, only how fast you swing it?

Who's Ahzidal?

On another note: Who's Vahlok?

I guess I missed 'em last time I was on Solstheim.

Maybe I should start playing again. I'm forgetting everything... :)

SPOILER ALERT!! Read past this point at your own peril.

Daelon, if your character dabbles in enchantment or necromancy at all, you must do the Ahzidal quest. It's the archeological dig site near the Bulwark. It's kind of tedious, because you have to pay the guy to dig and keep coming back, but you get a set of gear that lets you do stuff. There are boots of waterwalking, a helmet that increases rune range, rings that cause your zombies to explode when they take damage, etc. But if you wear any 4 pieces of his gear, you get more powerful enchantments.

Indeed it doesn't have the same style, but sadly my build is lacking colossal moobage so it's a definite give and take I reckon.

Ahzidal is the dragon priest in the tomb you have the team excavating.

Vahlok is in the tomb you visit with the historian you pick up in Skaal Village. He was the one who first defeated Miraak and is one of the only dragon priests that was actually not an evil S.O.B. in life and is remembered as being wise and just.

The only time I really was truly screwed was when the companions sent me to a falmer cave on one of the first quests and it was my legendary playthrough. Neddless to say I may have lowered the difficulty. There was one dragon priest that was pathetic, it was the one on the winterhold questline. I had a ton of magic but still used a sword so I let him use the staff a while before I ended his pathetic life.

You know you are in trouble when you enter a dungeon and the first enemy requires you to heal more than once. I hate to do it, but I high-tale it until I grow up ;)

Some of those mage filled caverns can be a real challenge too. Oh staff of paralysis help me!

I find that having an amulet of Talos, plus the Talos blessing can be a real help in those situations -- esp when your a vampire fighting a fire dragon.

I know how you felt... I got sent to Shimmermist at level ~10, on Expert difficulty with a populated dungeons mod (= more Falmer/Draugr/bandits/etc.) installed. After 1,5 hours I made it to the boss room, which took an additional 30 minutes.
Morokei has never given me any real trouble, possibly because I never, ever play a magic-only character. He really is a pushover when you use a combination of archery and melee (plus Shouts).

Only the shock Dragon Priests have ever given me a truly difficult time. Zahkriisos in particular is INSANE when you don't have Become Ethereal or resistances. And he's at the end of such a long and (at times) tedious dungeon, too.

The hardest enemy I have ever faced is Vulom in the Wyrmstooth mod. While he didn't do much damage to me, it took me half an hour to figure out how to effectively deal damage to him.
New lands mods aside, the hardest enemy I've fought so far is Alduin. I'm using two dragon mods, both of which make him much stronger than a Legendary Dragon. The one time I got to "Alduin's Bane" he totally and utterly annihilated me within five minutes. I was level 50+ with legendary Stalhrim equipment, a ton of resists and SkyRe's higher damage output.
