Lollygagging Milk Drinker (according to guards)
Unless I'm playing on Legendary (Death by mudcrabs quite frequent), I normally do okay for myself... until now. I almost got my ass handed to me, thank god I had tons of healing potions or I would have been burnt black toast.

It was in Dragonborn DLC in Solstheim (spelling), in the quest Unearthed. That a-hole Ahzidal can pack quite a punch. His fire spells were draining my health like there was no tomorrow. I threw EVERYTHING I had at him. I normally don't use potions like fire resistance and all that, but I was drinking them crazy. I casted both of my storm thralls... He took them each out in one hit. Serana was in the fetal position the whole time. So it was down to me because I couldn't catch long enough of a break to recast my storm thralls (although they would have died in one hit anyhow). Plus Ahzidal actually seems to have a brain. He was hiding behind the stone pillars while I aimed at him, then would quickly come out and cast his evil satanic god-like fire spells at me. I tried hiding from him and closed the double doors, he waited a little, then came and found me and cornered me. This went on and on, with Serana still in fetal position and me with no time to conjure up anything that wouldn't die in one hit. I finally resorted to sprinting to the pillars to hide behind them like he was, waiting for the perfect moments to get him with my bound bow (no way I was gonna be able to last long enough to dual-wield his ass into Oblivion).

Have you guys had any experience with this quest? I ended up killing Ralis Sedarys out of anger and frustration, continuing to beat his body after he was long dead. What did you guys think of Ahzidal?

If not, which enemy has ever given you the most trouble? Describe your epic battle.

I didn't have any real trouble with him, I guess because I make it my life's mission to get multiple resistances before I really go anywhere. I usually get monkeystomped by bandit chiefs, though.

...and you liked it, didn't you?

Hahaha of course you'd be the one to say that. And no, I didn't, it was a very sad moment.

But I did have magic resistance, I had Savior's Hide (this is my alpha werewolf character) that I think provides 15% and then the Lord Stone that provides 25% or something like that... but I'm no where close to the 85% resistance that I could have. I normally make sure they have at least around 60 or 70% resistance, guess I overlooked it in this character. Shame on me. I was so focused on conjuration, magika, sneak, and health enchantments... oh well!!!

And bandit chiefs of all things? No Dragon Priest ever kicked your sarcastic ass? :p

Bring me my broadsword, and clear understanding.
Ahzidal was a challenge - I messed up the first time I faced him but then the usual run fire shout fire some more worked. I did the same with Ralis that first time - he ran at me and died a death of a thousand cuts with an axe and a sword. Then I fus ro dah'd him around the room a bit.

The one creature that did a one hit wonder on me was one of the Keepers in the Soul Cairn. Then it did it a couple more times. I was at a reasonable level so they had dragonbone weapons on that play through.

I hate fighting mages, but Dragon Priests are a whole other game. Dukaan and Ahzidal were both a major thorn in my side, what with the constant spam of fire and ice attacks. I hope they rot in the deepest parts of Oblivion.

While I've never had trouble with Ahzidal, I've had problems with Zahkriisos in the past. But THIS time, recently I fought Vokun, and was amazed with his power. I approached him for melee combat and my world just exploded. Everything exploded. I couldn't tell what the hell was happening. To this day, I don't give my helper a staff of fireballs.

I usually get a bad case of the storm thralls when I drink too many potions in one night too

No, not since my first play through. I was introduced to Skyrim on an old, crusty PS3 at my gf's family's house. I didn't have my laptop, or the game guide, or anything. I just started playing. I didn't know how much help enchanting and alchemy could be at low levels, so I got literally decimated by mages and dragons, all the time. After that, I started to learn and I made sure I had resistance out the wazoo. About level 10, 11, 12, the bandit chiefs are ridiculously tough for me, because my resistance doesn't help, and I don't have that much smithing, enchanting, alchemy skill, or as high a one-handed level as I'd need for all 5 perks. I do little damage, have 'meh' armor at that point, and it's like shooting spitballs at a tank. Nowadays, they only get me if I run out of paralysis potions, but I make a canis root / imp stool run at every town with an alchemist.

I don't really remember fighting Ahzidal, but then again I have only done that once. I don't recall having trouble. Now, when I say that I had 100 on my sneak and 100 on my archery. Dragon bows and arrows, along with archery enchantments. One of my extra characters is doing that stuff right now so I will have to see how he is this go around on a harder difficulty

Ahzidal & Vahlok are the two Solstheim dragon Priests I have yet to fight. After reading this I'm afraid of facing the former. may have to cure my Vampirism just for the occasion, or I haven't got a hope in Oblivion...

Good luck to you! Also I think I was a little too stubborn. I had my difficulty on Master, I probably could have lowered it to expert. So depending on your difficulty, maybe yours might go smoother!

Oh! And if you do have trouble, don't forget the stone pillars! Try hiding behind them and shooting arrows or magic at him. That's what allowed me to win at the end.

I've never had much of a problem with either though it probably has more to do with the order at which I tend to play through the DLC's. SInce it makes the most sense that I would have either completed the main quest or at least have progressed through it considerably or else Miraak would probably not know of me being Dragonborn, or if he did, it would be doubtful that he would have any concern or fear of me being any challenge to him. Thus my character is high level before going through it. It also helped that my character's element he was based off was fire (for my main character, fire was part of his name,) both attacks and defense enchantments were geared toward it.

My characters I RP that aren't Dragonborn don't do any of that DLC's main quest and may avoid it entirely or else they just do some of the side stuff.

That said, Ahzidal in particular was strong and I could see him having been a real challenge to me in earlier stages.

Hmmm... this might be the target of my next ragged trouser/wooden sword battle.

Thats a good strategy. Also if you are a master at sneaking, you can hide long enough until he loses sight and then sneak attack and repeat.

Actually, was thinking of taking him on in VL form. Two flying undead clash in the heart of Solstheim... Gonna be epic!
Do note that I only recently started my vampire char, so such a challenge will obviously take a few days... looking forward to it though!
