I'm just being curious, are there other people here who thoroughly enjoy pokemon games?
I've played them since I was 9-10, can't even remember. Let's see if we can get a good discussion going.

1. What are your thoughts on the later generations of pokemon?

2. What was your first pokemon game? I started out with Red/Blue.

3. What's your favorite type? Mine's definitely Dragon, no way around it.

Personally I like all the generations, though not all the pokemon in them.
I'm looking at you Vanillish you little bastard.
I actually started the series a little late, I started during Heart Gold and Soul Silver, though I did go back and play the older games.
The last question narrows down to two types, Dragon and Fire.

Actually I don't really have a problem with the Vanillish family. They're decently designed imo.

What I do have a problem with is effing Watchog! The design is absolutely dreadful, plus every time I fight one, it spams Confuse Ray and Hypnosis and I hope it just goes away and dies a painful death in a forest fire or something.
Also Swanna. I can't explain why, but I can't stand Swanna.

EDIT: Almost forgot this part: I'm also of the opinion that every generation pretty much has the same quality when it comes to the designs of the 'mons. Every gen has it's hits and misses.

I think the later generations are pretty decent. Unova is my least favorite though.

My first pokemon game I played was Yellow.

My favorite type is Dragon because they are just beast.

Also, is anyone else hyped for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire? I can't wait, Hoenn is one of my favorite regions and I liked the Hoenn games (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) the most out of all the pokemon games

Same here. I don't have a 3DS and don't really want to get one. At least not for now.

Meeee is it November yet

As for the questions in the OP -

I also started with Gen I - my first was Pokemon Red, but I also got Pokemon Yellow later on.

Can't really say I have a favorite type though, all types have great Pokemon, though the Dragon type as a whole was definitely created to be the most badass of them all, based on their rarity and base stats.

I think the later generations are getting better and better - I wasn't very fond of BW, actually, but XY was awesome, definitely got me hooked on Pokemon again. And as mentioned, I do have high hopes for ORAS, it looks like it'll be a great combination of the new features in XY, and also the nostalgia of RSE. Hoenn is my favorite region, too, it had some really interesting towns and locations, and quirky features exclusive to it, like the Trick House and Hoenn TV. The characters and Pokemon introduced in Gen III were also very memorable - Wally was really different from the previous rivals (different in a good way, not like Barry). I loved the previous remakes - HG/SS is one of my favorites in the series - so I don't think this one will disappoint.

tl;dr I am so hyped for ORAS. :p

Can I ask why you didn't like BW that much? Just curious.

Also, a follow-up question to everybody:

This is regarding BW because I havent played the newer 2, but here are some of my reasons:
  1. Felt too linear. The whole game had you going from the south to the North. Every city after Striaton had a gym.
  2. They marked the arrival of the " All-purpose Poke' mall, for all your Pokemons needs!". I want my Poke mart back!
  3. No classic Pokemon. Dont get me wrong, the number of new species was exquisite, but there was a certain point where I started crying everytime "Youngster --- sent out Tranquill!" appeared on the screen.
  4. Characters. Couldent connect with them like in previous & later games, though to Game Freaks credit that was worked on in the Anime. Though WTF was with Cilan!
  5. Team Plasma. What was their goal? Region Domination? Does the world of Pokemon even have government's!
  6. Legendary Pokemon. Resh & Zek just cant stand up to your Mewtwo, your Rayquaza, or your Giratina. Their story also dosent make sense. How does a legendary Dragon split in two, & why would its two halves fight one another?
  7. Vanillish. Havent seen Barrel scraping like that since they started releasing those Sinnoh additional [pre-] evolutions

Sorry, missed your original questions.
First game was Platinum (never had anything older than a DS), love most 5-6th gen pokemon, & favourite type is Ghost. Specifically Ghost-Dark(pre fairies).

Dat Spiritomb.

1. Nothing really to comment on this. It was just like any Pokemon game, which is a good thing.

2. I actually really liked this change.

3. The random trainers all having the same few 'mons has been a thing since the beginning, but I get what you're saying.

4. On this, we agree. I didn't really care for any of the characters. I played White 2, and my rival just going on and on about that stolen Purrloin just got on my nerves.

5. I think their original goal was to liberate pokemon, but Ghetsis just used this as an excuse for good old fashioned world domination.

6. Agreed.

7. Like I mentioned earlier, I differ from the majority of the fandom in that I don't have a problem with the Vanillish/Vanillite/Vanilluxe family.
