Mister Freeze
Yet another public "I'm leaving" thread? What is it supposed to accomplish?

Is it supposed to punish all of us who are left wallowing in the misery of an individual's departure? Surely this forum will descend into squalor and chaos after said departure, so perhaps we are meant to cry out for mercy?

Or perhaps it is a cheap attempt to generate posts of support and well-wishes? If this is the case, I can only assume that the individual reaps some sort of validation from the forum. Humans, for the large part, desire for companionship and to be accepted by their peers. However, that acceptance is based upon a mutual trust and respect that when lost is extremely difficult to regain.

Regardless of the reason, a thorough reading of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" might be in order. . .

And I agree, "enough!". . .Enough of these "I'm leaving" threads. Please.

But you're right. Plus this one was so enigmatic. I really had no idea what was "enough" until it got explained to me. I particularly like how all these bullplops threads turn into a party and people post fun stuff. It's a nice way of saying, "Nobody cares."

Aw, you guys are party poopers.

What's so wrong with having a thread filled with spam? It would eventually fizzle out on its own. But I guess you're right.:sadface:

I'm just hoping there are mass riots, lootings and general hooliganism. I kinda need a new toaster.

Whether rage quitting is productive or not, called for or not, part of an agenda or not, all I see is people smearing someone after they're gone. Pretty sad, if you ask me. Nobody is perfect, but I agree that Daleon brought more positive here than negative. Reading this thread just makes me realize the forums would be better off with him, and without several of the posters here, than the other way around.

Well honestly I didn't even know what the page was at first.
Then then memes came, I wonder if there is a thread like that here, But in the brief time that I interacted with Daleon he seemed like a pretty good guy. So he can be a bit opinionated but isn't that just human nature in general? He is good at debating though, I must admit that. Oh well, back to creating CC's, playing games, writing and viewing memes for now. Anything to distract from life.

Agreed on life distraction. There is a meme thread, and an emot thread. I think they're both in "the lobby" section.

I truly like and respect you, Joe, so when you suggest that the forum would be better without a few people in this thread... and considering I'm a person that's in this thread... I get nervous and I feel like I should defend myself.

I don't think anybody really slandered Daelon that badly (with the exception of Agent007). Perhaps at the start, when we first realized this was about his leaving, some people were a little harsher. I think that is to be understandable because threads like this are the equivalent of a child saying he's taking his toys and going home. It could be your best friend, but if he's going to pull that then you're going to be ticked off.

Listen, I actually really like Daelon and I think he brings a lot to the forums. The first time he posted a thread like this, I came in and gave him the obligatory pep talk about how it would be a loss to the community and so on and so forth. However, after two or three of these, people stop taking it seriously and you lose a level of decorum. It boils down to that threads like these aren't necessary and silliness begets silliness. Hence why the memes and jokes start.

Bottom line, if Daelon wants to take a sabbatical from the forums, he should just do it. There is absolutely no shame or anything involved in that. I do it regularly, perhaps not for the same reasons as him, but I do disappear for stretches simply because I'm drawn somewhere else. But If he showed up tomorrow and started posting again, I would carry on like he never left. We're all here because we have a common interest and so long as you're respectful and considerate (which Dealon almost always is) then I think we can get along regardless of anything else.

For the record, 'Operation Zombie Thread Tangent' wasn't me just being some random smart-ass again. Sure, there's some smart-ass in it but it is just the vehicle for a political/psychological tactic where I acted to covertly redirect the tone and topic of the thread. Looking back at it, I'd say it worked fairly well towards that end. There had been a post or two attempting it through more direct means, but since there wasn't much of a result, I took a different angle at it.

It might not always seem it, but most anything I post has a logical purpose behind it. Sometimes it is just to be nonsensical because laughter has a logical purpose too, but little if anything I post doesn't have a reason.

Much like Hildolfr mentioned above and several mentioned previously, my dealings with Daelon in the forum have all been positive and he does add to the community. If he decides at some point to come back, I'd welcome him back without a second thought about it.

Maybe it's the experience of being in multiple forum communities through the years, or my general personality where little gets me riled up that offers me some clarity, but this place is just like any community, cyber or reality, where different people have different tolerance levels before an emotional reaction takes over. I've noticed different moments with multiple people that take things incredibly personal, some approaching an unhealthy extreme. That said, this place isn't an aberration by any means. That same thing happens in every forum I am or have been a part of. While I myself have an adopted policy of not letting things that don't really matter in the big-picture of my life to take control, to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't want everyone to react to things exactly the same as me. It would get real boring were that the case. Much of what makes a cyber-based community last is that people come into it from all different backgrounds, personalities, approaches, etc. It's really just a microcosm of life. To each, his or her own.

The advice I would make to anyone who might consider me to have some sort of culmination of wisdom, is to be able to step back and evaluate whether something fits in the "vitally important to real life" column of life, or if it goes under "everything else." The former should be handled seriously, the latter not so much.

The way I try and approach my time here is that this forum is my escape from the stresses and concerns of reality. As soon as it turns into a source of stress and concern of reality, it's time to find a new leisure activity unless I could find a way to re-balance life's priorities to their factory default settings. Life is too damn short to not be able to distinguish the important from the trivial. It's a much more enjoyable journey if you can.

I still haven't figured out the Oghma Infinium glitch yet......

I thought that got nerfed...

I tried the glitch that will let you walk around underneath Whiterun but never again. So frustrating.

I almost vomited when I did that glitch.. Out of shear frustration or from the wacky graphics I do not know.. :p

It was a terrible experience, agreed. Endure graphic glitch hell for an hour to get to a chest and for what? A few apples and some cheese? That's the kind of glitch you recommend to your enemies. :)

This thread and threads like these are a joke. Always have been and always will be and should always be treated as such. Just look at the the way it was conceived and presented in the OP. Any conversation taking place in here is brain dumbing by default so it's either make light of it by making jokes or use it as a platform to point fingers. I prefer the first choice personally. The best thing that could happen for the OP of this thread is that this steaming mass of drama will spawn baby steaming masses of drama. That would be mission accomplished so instead of furthering that agenda, I much prefer:
