I would go find another companion and see if they can follow you, if lydia is still alive they will decline your offer.

And nothing of value was lost.

I kid, I kid. Lydia's a dynamite gal with a great attitude that has made her very popular. If you miss her, you can do as Sickle recommended. Under normal and unmodded circumstances a new follower will not join up with you while you already have a living follower. So if a new follower declines to join you your beloved Housecarl is most likely alive. Just wait three days and Lydia should trundle her way back to Whiterun. She'll head either to Dragonreach to sit around and eat all of Balgruuf's bread or (if you own it) Breezehome. Where she'll sit around and eat all of your bread. While she watches you sleep. You're..you're sure you want her back?

Anyhow! If the follower does join you, Lydia is dead. Hooray! I'm very sorry for your loss. If you are on PC there's a number of options available to you at this point via console commands. If you're on PS3/Xbox you may now hold a solemn ceremony and/or celebration.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
adding a couple of cents worth: Sometimes a follower gets trapped inside the cave/ruin, did you go back inside White River Watch and look around? I think there is actually one spot in there where followers become confused and just stand there.

Hildolfr

It's a big hammer.
Did you try fast traveling? That should work if she is still alive.

This was my first thought, too. Try fast traveling. She'll turn up.

OR SHE IS DEAD AND YOU KILLED HER. FEEL BAD. :p:p:D;)

I've managed to be reunited with missing followers by letting myself get arrested. Agreeing to pay the fine to a guard works if you don't want to go to jail (just any minor crime like stealing an item in front of someone or attempting to pick a lock in front of a guard), and when the game reloaded me outside the jail, my follower was back beside me.

I really loved her. But I had to kill her.

You weren't supposed to find out like this.

If it's any consolation, I crushed so many painkilling herbs into her Honningbrew Mead that my daggers probably felt like the toothpicks she asked me for after dinner. She thought she was drinking Ashfire Mead. Because I'm a liar. It will be my cross to bear, and it is heavy.

I have taken from you. And her. Yes. But I have also given. She is a far better warrior now than she ever was - even with the stiffness in her walk and her steadfast insistence on moaning instead of speaking. I don't deserve the gift of her words, I suppose. I accept that.

When her service is done, I will burn the body. The warmth from the fire will comfort children. And animals. She will spend her last minute loved by the townsfolk. Nurturing. Giving life. It is truly a time to rejoice.

You may wish to pursue me, and seek vengeance. I could never blame you. However, I am all out of Honningbrew. Fair warning - I owe you that.

Sincerely,

Dr. D'Irsei, D.D.S.

I was trying to make a Skyrim-Family. For the longest time Lydia was my companion and she vanished at some point. I think she was my steward so it made it even more annoying. I went on as usual. I found her on a cliff outside Whiterun once, she disappeared again. Just give it time, so long as she's alive she'll show up eventually.

Um, any reason to give me that 'disagree'? It does normally work, not always but that is why I said should. If you think I'm wrong just say so.

You replied just to whine about that? I had that problem happen to me, your trick didn't work when it happened to me so I disagreed. It's that simple.

You can type words like 'Transcended' no problem but you can't even manage to type the word 'you'? That doesn't even make sense! I tried to read your post and ignore the godawful spelling and grammar and it still didn't make sense.

I saw this topic and I thought the exact same thing :p As I was thinking of sarcastic comments to write, I read this post. I am not even going to try to follow up with anything. Props to you!

So your rude to someone for asking you a valid question and than you reply 'just to whine' about someones spelling and grammar?

Annageckos specifically said "it should work" to fast travel. This is true, and not really disputable. The fact that it didn't work for you doesn't change that it should have.

'So You're" Seriously, 6 year old kids should know this stuff. At no point was I rude and that post was atrocious to read.

It didn't work, which is why I clicked disagree and it is disputable.

Now here you can see how clicking a short cut button can cause discord and bad blood between friends. Technically "disagreement" is not the right response, because that statement is not something to disagree with, since it is correct. Something like, "It didn't work, there must be something else going on" would be more accurate. This requires some thought and some keyboard interaction, rendering a simple icon mash on your part inadequate. AT ANY RATE, I would love to find out if Lydia is indeed still within White Water Watch, battling some bandit you bypassed, or standing around looking dazed and confused; and beyond that, I want a fitting end to this story. It's hard to hang in the balance, here, not knowing if our beloved Lydia is dead or alive!

It is not correct. If you make a statement claiming something works and it doesn't, people tend to disagree with you and click the little disagree button.

"It didn't work, there must be something else going on"

Skyrim is a buggy pile of trash and full of bugs and glitches and fast-traveling doesn't fix the problem. From my experience there's nothing you can do but hope she shows up eventually. People around here seem so entitled, they act like people aren't allowed dissenting opinions and nobody can disagree with or down-vote stupid posts.

Well, now you're just being ill-tempered and argumentative. Have a great day!!!

Personally it's all for entertainment. Although some comments get more that just a chuckle.
LuChao, set your housecarls to "no die" and thereby eliminate death as a possibility.
Have a great day ColleenG.
