Haha, indeed he is, Troll! :p I've watched a little of RK, but never quite finished. I did enjoy it. :) Kaoru made me slightly murderous, but otherwise it was quite good! I've heard manga-Kaoru is less obnoxious. :p I loved Kenshin's English dub voice too, dude is a great voice actor.

I'm not really huge on anime, but Hellsing was awesome. You've probably seen that one, huh?

Jersey Dagmar

Just in time for the fiyahworks show! BOOM!
I suggest The Visions of Escaflowne. It's superb. And if you haven't already, Death Note, that one is a given. Gundam Wing is also another great anime, as well as Ghost in the Shell (though I fell behind on that one). Cowboy Bebop is a must for any anime fan.

Start Dale

I got 99 problems but a Deadra ain't one.

If you've seen 'Appleseed' you should try all the 'Ghost in the Shell' stuff. Its very good and quite deep as it digs into my interest in post-humanity. Plus lots of action.

(Edited to include Jersey Dagmar being quicker off of the block than me)

As for more masumune Shirow inspired stuff

Depends what you're looking for. My favourite zany anime series include Azumanga Daioh and Excel Saga but then i also love Samurai Champloo (which is just awesome) Gungrave and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

It depends on what genres your into.
Erin is a great anime, it's a little slow, but give it a chance it's really amazing.
Chihayafuru, saki, and hikaru no go are good, they're all about japanese games i don't know how to play but that makes it even more interesting XD
Fairy Tail
Blue exorcist
La corda de'oro primo passo
mitsudomoe <-- is full of hilariousness
those are just some that i can rattle off the top of my head.

if you're into manga though i would have a much easier time naming some >.<

I just really like your avatar.

Though if any of those are on Netflix i'll give them a blast myself.

Stop Hodoring!
You have to watch Deathnote & Full Metal Alchemist if you haven't already. You have to!

I also enjoyed Bleach until the anime ended too.

Rurouni Kenshin

I agree.

Also, if you've not seen Darker Than Black, I would have to suggest it. Both the original DTB: The Black Contractor and it's sequel DTB: Gemini of the Meteor are absolutely amazing, and rank at the top of my list of favorite animes. I suggest them to everyone, and have never heard a complaint.

There's my usual suspects, such as Ghost in the Shell, Air Gear, Full Metal Alchemist. Evangelion is always a good one.

If you're looking for something a bit more mature, try the excellent Elfen Lied series; it's short and sweet, rather than drawn out and convoluted. All the best animes tend to be fairly short in terms of the amount of episodes. Also, Trigun. Can't forget Trigun, it was one of my first animes, and I've many fond memories. There's plenty more that I can't think of right now. I'll get back to you when they come to mind. Most importantly, Darker Than Black.

Remember the golden rule; go subs, no dubs, except for rare cases.

THIS. So much WIN was that series. It was the right balance of zany, deep, dark and hopeful. Nicholas D. Wolfwood remains one of my most beloved anime/manga characters of all time. The sarcastic chain-smoking, gun-toting traveling priest, FTW <3 I have the DVD boxed set and I still go back and rewatch it from time to time.

Personally, I'd highly recommend the Trigun Maximum manga to any Trigun anime fan also. Obviously, it goes into more detail about certain aspects/characters, not to mention I really enjoyed Vash and Wolfwood's dynamic in it much more than in the show - though their relationship in the show is good too, just not as developed. Good times.

That's pretty much the best way to describe Trigun. It's rare that a series manages to juggle so much so effectively. Also, Wolfwood. Yes.

I've not read Trigun Maximum, but I will now. moar wolfwood.

Haha, you should! It's pretty awesome. I've got about half the manga issues still, and intend to re-get the rest eventually. I had been picking them up as they were released but sort of lost track of that and got a bunch later. I do, however, have my "Wolfwood" volume within reach at all times. :p

I think you'll really enjoy it. One thing which might seem petty but that I like is the fact that there isn't any silly Wolfwood/Milly romance in the manga. I never particularly liked that about the series. It didn't seem necessary to me, but I suppose I could understand why they would go that route. It's certainly not the first series of any kind that has!

Anyway, indeed Trigun Maximum and Trigun FTW! :D I think I may watch some of it myself later today...

It's a big hammer.
I used to enjoy watching anime several years ago and I'm pleasantly surprised that a lot of the animes that have been suggested are old enough for me to have seen. However, there has been one show that has not been suggested and, in all honesty, it is easily my favorite work of science fiction and probably story telling in general. I'm speaking of Mobile Suit Gundam, of course. Giant robots, ftw. (I did see Jersey Dagmar suggest Gundam Wing, but... Wing was my gateway show 12 years ago and I don't think I can honestly recommend it to anyone anymore, lol)

Gundam has been around since 1979 and is one of the biggest franchises in Japan. It's often equated to America's Star Wars and Star Trek as far as popularity. There are statues, life size models (we're talking 18 meters tall, about 60 feet), and whole theme parks, restaurants, and everything else under the sun. Plus, it's been around 30 years...there's pretty much something for everyone in there. Sadly, it's not on Netflix; I check regularly even though I own everything already.

However, I do fully endorse a couple of the series mentioned already: Macross, Cowboy Bebop, Kenshin, Trigun, Ghost in the Shell, Hellsing, and Escaflowne are all solid shows. Also, I might as well throw on Neon Genesis Evangelion. Though it's depressing and you may not want to get out of bed for a few days after watching it. Well worth it, I think.
