What? Oh. Goodby
I wonder, does anybody still bothers about food? When i first played Skyrim and this is my first TES game I ever played, I was under the assumption that picking up food and eating food was part of the game. But I come to realize that food is only for those players who role-play. Correct me if I'm wrong please. :)

How do you backstab a Dragon?
Well... it can be useful if you're a terrible player like I am and run out of healing potions all the time. If you cook, you can also make some pretty cool stuff that can really help with stamina, health and magicka regen and points - and you can do it early on! Ah... Elswyr Fondue, you are my friend. :)

Elswyr Fondue is great for mages, and non-mages that may want to cast a spell but hasn't put anything into magicka. Soups that regen stamina are great for melee fighters, as long as you have one point of stamina you can power attack. I just found out about that and it has saved my butt often. And I also use food in the beginning to supplement my health potions.

Eating is not needed, it's only use is for RPing and for those who don't know what alchemy or Restoration are.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
Funny you should bring this up. My new character is food obsessed. At first I thought it was because he was a farmer back in Cyrodil before he got arrested. But he makes the most interesting food! Vegetable soup that heals stamina and health 1 point per second each for 720 seconds? That's pretty powerful. Saved his life more than once. Beef stew is also good. So this guy goes around looking in every barrel for the good stuff. Sometimes he's more interested in barrels than he is in chests!

I use alchemy, I love alchemy and still find some food helpful for certain characters. It is also very helpful at lower levels when I don't have a lot of potions. I wouldn't say it is only us is RPing. If used right it is very helpful.

Well, I'm a chef in real life, but have not find an interest in cookery in Skyrim. Maybe Beth should consider giving cooking and food more depth in their next TES game.

I wish Bethesda had put in a feature like Hardcore mode in Fallout New Vegas, where your character would gradually get hungry and thirsty and you would need to eat and drink or you would die. I wish that was a feature, so all the food lying around could be used for something!

they have mods for PC which make this a necessity where u need food and drink or u will die but shamefully it ONLY PC

I've had a couple characters who picked up every single apple they found (searched all sacks, barrels etc. for apples). :D

I played on my 360 the other week, and noticed that just like avoiding swimming, picking up food has become something I automatically do.
All thanks to PC and mods. :)

Food is a great roleplaying tool. For instance, in lore, Bosmer are carnivores and cannibals, so whenever I play a Bosmer, I make sure they never eat anything plant-based... and I always grab the Ring of Namira early on so they can feast on their fallen foes. I once had a Khajiit who was completely obsessed with fish (as cats are), and had to pick up every single piece of fish he laid eyes on, whether it was free for the taking or in a Jarl's pocket. That was fun.

When I played on the Xbox I used to RP eating three times a day and sleeping at night, so I would always look to find some where to sleep before it got dark. With a PC there are plenty of mods available to change gameplay so that food becomes essential.

I guess Bethseda puts these things in because we're all different, some of us want a more immersive experience, others don't feel the need to eat and sleep. That's part of what makes this series so great.

But for those of us not on PC... I think I speak for all of us console-gamers here...

WHAT ABOUT US??? Those of us who can't mod! Come on, Beth, give us something good!

I fully agree as a PS3 user I wish there were modes for us like FrostFall and whatnot where food drink sleep and everything played a factor and everything was more realistic
