How do you backstab a Dragon?
Managed to find a copy of Oblivion for my PS3 (after all this time) and boy you guys were right about how different it is.

I may not be here for a little bit as I obsess.

I do miss Skyrim though, although playing the Duke of Dementia has it's perks. :)

Oblivion is good. Get away from all that dreadful snow. The Nords in Oblivion are kind of stupid though, so be warned about that.

There is so much to love about Oblivion. Enjoy!

I'm currently playing Oblivion as an Orc warrior with Restoration and Conjuration. Oblivion is certainly good fun, especially because I really want to play an rpg, but I'm not feeling Skyrim right now. I'm currently level 7, fighting to liberate Kvatch from the Daedra.

Might as well go back to morrowind like i do. I'm sure we all miss the old days when your character HAD to adapt to the environment in certain situations *cough* levitation *cough*

Reading anything about anything about Oblivion gives me fond memories about Cassandra, my Crusader build / RP that later became a Knight of the Nine.

The Nords in general are pretty stupid.... "Skyrim is for the Nords!".... uhhh.. no it isn't according to history. Skyrim rightfully belong to the elves, particularly the Dwemer/Snow elves. I'm just waiting for them to return just so that they can tell the Nords to get the fudge out of their country.

It's a big hammer.
Now the question, Daelon, is seeing how different it is, do you find yourself having any trouble enjoying it?

I've always been told, "Go play Oblivion because it's awesome, but be prepared to struggle with the older style mechanics and graphics." I play Knights of the Old Republic about once a year, so I doubt that old graphics and mechanics would bother me. But I'm always hesitant because people make it sound so dated. I remember Morrowind and I don't remember that being so awful so how bad can Oblivion really be?

Is Morrowwind even available for PS3?

So far so good, but it's even more confusing than Skyrim. At the moment on in the Shimmering Isles (almost done) and will be glad to get out (although I luv it).
The mechanics are choppy and a little clunky (compared to SR) and the 3rd person is just plain weird, but it's a great play so far. A little more repetative than SR, but, hey, whatja gonna do, it is almost a decade old.
What I do like is that the dialogue options are much more robust, there are so many more voice actors and the characters are very diverse (watch for a gay orc smith!) and there seem to be more weapons and armor options (I even like the appearance matrix - it's a lot more flexible).
I'm not in that far, but I'm certainly obsessed for the time being (back to SR next week!).
Now that I've tried it, I would recommend it, but be warned that some of the SR things you're used to, while the function very similarly (and there's hot keys!), they're a bit more clunky and the graphics are of a slightly lower quality, but it has been worth it. :)

I'm sorry Daelon, but I chuckled a bit when reading your post:

"there are so many more voice actors"

Really? I'm playing Oblivion right now myself, and apart from Martin and Uriel Septim (Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart, respectively), I've only noticed like 3 or 4 voice actors. Everyone sounds the same! Bethesda actually had significantly more voice actors in Skyrim than in Oblivion. You can check these pages to see for yourself

Morrowind was ultra enjoyable in its time. I do remember the environmental challenges there were, as someone else mentioned. Mine was also having to spam levitate and water breathing spells to get around. And who can forget those damned cliff racers?!

Oblivion was pretty good too. It would have been a lot better for me had I the rig to handle it at the time; that was back when I bought the second or third best video card due to price, unlike now where I toyed with SLI GTX680s and then 780s just for games like SKyrim, Bioshock Infinite and Battlefield 4 before dumping the second card in favor of an SSD C drive and Corsair 80i water cooling (very excellent tradeoff mind you). Were I to play the game now it would likely be better from a performance standpoint, but who knows how dated the graphics would look compared to a fully modded Skyrim build.

Just bad timing I suppose. And I know Morrowind would look cartoonish right about now compared to Skyrim so...

Hmm... Well, I suppose, since I've pretty much only done the Shivering Isles, I guess I'm not one to talk. Still - my current favs are Cutter andRelmyna Verenmi at this point. I'm almost done with this section of the game, which I'm loving, by the way. Go Sheogarth! Go Sheogarth! I'm off to the actual Cyrodil before too long. I thought that was Patrick! Cool! And to think, now he's Avery Bullock. :)

And you had to pick a pic from the "I love little girls" scene? I'm dying over here.

Say hi to my friend Vincente while in Cheydinhal. Vampirism in Oblivion is (like all things) different than in Skyrim, but it may help you get past your reluctance to play characters with the dark gift ;)

Aye, Vampirism in Oblivion was way more hardcore and immersive than in (vanilla) Skyrim.

You actually take constant health damage from being out in the daylight, but also get actual benefits in return. Namely, a 5-20 point bonus (depends on your level of vampirism) to Acrobatics, Athletics, Destruction, Hand to Hand, Illusion, Mysticism, Sneak, Strength, Willpower and Speed. Plus, a 5-20% resistance to normal weapons (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Vampirism). Much better than vanilla Skyrim imo.

When I play Oblivion, the only thing I miss are the Skyrim character models. Everyone in Oblivion looks like a potato.
Well then I created one young, studely, red-headed potato. :)

Funny how some of the books are the same. The one on vampires is almost identical.
