Erandur is gone!!

Hi guys!

I'm new to this fórum. I was just wondering if anyone had the same problem. I'm trying to complete the Waking Nightmare quest but as soon as I enter the Nightcaller Temple after Erandur he is suddenly gone. He doesn't come in after me and he is not outside as well....

Enter the temple BEFORE Erandur does ?

I don't even know how he did that! I thought Erandur had to unlock the door.

Do you mean the entry chamber, or the main temple?

Either one. I've always had to have him open it up to get in.

I've had the same thing happen before. I've only been able to finish that quest once out of the five or six times I've tried. If you have a save from before you entered I would reload, other wise forget it and try it on your next character. That's what I had to do.

I have found that, if I enter the outer chamber first, he doesn't follow me in.

Making multiple saves along the way is the only real safeguard to the most frustrating glitches. I always have at least 1 unique save each time I level up. It's even better if you save right before embarking in a new quest. I had a game killer on my first character when I was on ps3 where a beast clearing radiant quest required me kill a sabre cat that was already dead

I've had to go in and out the door a couple of times to make sure Erandur actually entered the temple. AND, you need to follow him at a certain pace behind him. ALSO, you need to not cut out of Erandur's monologue prematurely just prior to entering the temple. If you do that, you suspend the entire quest. Also note that the save feature while in the temple will freeze the program at a certain point in the storyline, I hesitate to divulge too much, but it happens anytime right after you drink that special potion. So you should eliminate all autosaves in your game play while inside the temple. All that being said, this is one of the glitchier stories in Skyrim, but it's important if you want to become Thane of Dawnstar and own property in the Pale. So limp along, just limp along.

WRT your issue, reloading is the best answer given, but you can also try going away for a while, then returning. Erandur might show up.

Yup, always make lots of saves now, especially since I disabled all auto saving. Though it seems like my Skyrim is less glitchy then many others, and I'm on a PS3.

Yeah, it's just the same as backing up anything on your computer that is important. I can't begin to tell how many times I've had someone I know have me take a look at their computer that has crashed and them stressed out about losing all this important stuff that was apparently so important that they only had one copy saved on a device that is prone to periodic total failures.

Back in college I worked at a copy shop and remember one customer completely freaking out because she had her in-progress dissertation saved on a floppy disk that now was corrupt and wouldn't read. Of course she was practically done with it after years of work and being really bright, she just had one copy on that disk and not even 1 backup anywhere.

If it's important I have backups of backups of backups. If it's really really important, my friends have backups at their houses too in addition to the ones in my possession in case the building I'm in burns to the ground.
