But yeah I'm trying to avoid magic usage so I would need the mace of molag bai to get souls
All the court mages and most general merchants sell full petty gems. Bring home and sell all the loot.

As for blocking, long story short I have tendonitis in my left hand, so I physically cant block (Xbox controller). However, I always carry a shield.

Might I recommend a two-handed weapon? carrying a shield and not using it is useless unless it has enchantments on it. To me your lowering your damage output for no good reason. Blocking is still important but if you physically cant do it than attack with as much power as possible...

If i were to switch to two handed weapons, what would you reccomend me to use? I'm currently playing with war axes. I'm worried that two handed weapons might be too slow.

Search for 'Longhammer' on Uesp (id link you but Iv gotta go to work). It is a very quick two-handed warhammer. I love it! Be wrned though, the dungeon where you get it is not easy to clear, Id bring a follower and potions for sure..

So, if I was going to avoid left hand use, here's how I'd probably go in, especially with multiples or a boss.

Damage poison to the enchanted weapon.
Fortify health and regenerate health.
Fortify stamina and regenerate stamina.
Fortify 1-handed
Fortify (?) armor.

This increases your damage by a percentage from the potion, and by points for enchantment and poison.

It makes your health and stamina both higher and quicker to replenish than they normally are, and it increases your overall armor rating for a bit.

If you still have trouble with a boss (non draugr) then switch to paralysis poison for the next hit, and monkey stomp them when they lay down.

Do your best to get the first word of ice form shout. It's instant falldown, quick recharge (1st word only) and saves you paralysis potions.

Very not easy to clear. That's one dungeon I'd recommend doing while you have Delphine and Esbern, as well as a follower, in tow, and I'd get the follower a conjuration staff of some sort. The Sanguine Rose is probably the most beneficial, but even a flame atronach helps much.

Don't try fighting sabre cats, bears and trolls just yet. When you find yourself in a tough fight run away until the opponent turns on your follower and then wade in and take some cheap shots. Always carry around paralysis potions to stun the dangerous wild creatures, and from there you can decide whether to try to kill them before they get up or just run away. Often running is the best bet

Probably best to be careful in the north east corner of the map because of all the bears, snow trolls, snowy sabre cats and even ice wolves. The south east around Riften is dodgy too, there seem to be an unusual concentration of bears and trolls there.

Early in the game try to avoid dungeons made up of falmer, mages, vampires and foresworn. Bandits and draugr tend to be easier in my experience. You could use the imperial or stormcloak questlines for easy leveling against soft opponents

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. At level 13, you are just a a baby. You need to earn the right to survive.

Am I the only person who finds Ice Wraiths particularly difficult? Obviously as a Nord you have a big advantage, but I find other races get killed by a group of 2 or 3 quite quickly. They are hard to hit - near impossible with bows, and unless you dabble in fire/lightning destruction magic, they can be really difficult imo...

I can't say if there's any set pattern in their attacks and movements, but they seem to move and hover for a couple of seconds, move and hover, etc. I try to follow them, and then strike when they stop, but yeah...they've kicked my butt more than once. Even the flame atronachs have a hard time hitting them.

How do you backstab a Dragon?
Lucid brings up a good point. With blocking comes shield bash, an invaluable tool. You don't need to spend a perk on the power bash, just hit both buttons at once and give them a little jaw love, stuns them for a second and lets you set up a good power swing.

With 1H/shield, I usually go in with a shield bash, then do a 1H combo. Tap the button once, then tap and hold. It does a slash/power combo, so you get two hits for one. It kills your stamina, but it's effective. Get in, bash, attack, get out, and let them swing and miss, then hit them up again.
I'm guessing that blocking just takes a lot of practice. As many months as I've been playing, I can honestly say that I have NEVER used block - ever (okay, I tried it once with a sword and board and quit cause I couldn't get the hang of it). Is there a trick to it? I'm currently trying a dual wield at the moment (so obviously no blocking), but am wondering if there's a trick to it?

Fireballs do wonders against them. Sometimes I'll have my warrior only have that spell, just for wraiths and frost trolls.

Hey guys.

So I recently started a new character, which is intended to be a warrior build. I'm at around level 13 and I am still getting completely destroyed by everything. Bandits and wolves are simple enough to kill, but sabre cats mow me down easily, as do bandit chiefs, forsworn foragers, and falmer gloomlurkers. In fact, I can't even take on 3 Falmer at a time when by myself.

I've got perks in heavy armour, one handed, smithing, alchemy, sneak, and archery. Sneak and archery are only in there because I was getting destroyed early on.

But still, even with what seems like the right perks, I can't guarantee a safe foot travel from Whiterun to dawnstar.

What am I doing wrong?

Lol, sounds just like my character at that level. Was exactly the same. You expect to slaughter every enemy you meet when you're as green as the grass in Skyrim? Of course you can't survive running from Whiterun to Dawnstar, thats what carriages are for and why the ordinary folk in Skyim use them, and you are at this level, very ordinary.

It takes time to build skills and reputation.

Besides which Skyrim doesn't level very well in my experience, its noticeably easier when you're a high level character than a low level one. Also you don't mention what level of difficulty you're playing at, if you're level 13 character playing on Legendary expect to get slaughtered everytime you step outside the front door.

Sort of, yes. I had a hard time with it at first, too, so it took a while. There seems to be a window of opportunity to block, when they're winding up their shot. Sometimes, you can hold the shield up before they even think of swinging and still block, but after they get a certain amount of swing in, it seems futile. The hard part is you have to aim at them while you're blocking them, so if your crosshairs aren't in their general area, they'll hit you anyway.

I bash far more than I block though. It's like having Fus as many times as your stamina will allow. Just tap both buttons at once, while pointed at them, and be prepared to swing.

Get to the next level and do the Sanguine Rose quest. That way you will get an ally to help with the really tough fights.

I've been thinking about that, level 15 now but I can't remember where I was when I leveled up. So it could take a while to find ole Sam haha.

I too bash far more than I just block on warrior builds. With both one and two handed weapons. I also rely heavily on a shield (usually Spellbreaker) on Mage builds at lower levels.

To be honest no, not after the early levels anyway. With the archery slow time perks i can nail them pretty quick, within two shots anyway.

Good call on the ice wraiths, horrible creatures. On legendary I don't engage them at all until I'm a high level with solid magic/frost resistance. Until then I'll just run away.

My first legendary build was a sword and shield conjuror with the general approach of always putting two (later three) bodies in front of me to tank damage while I either sat back and watched or landed cheap shots. That wasn't bad for ice wraiths. My current build is a dagger/bow assassin so until I reached about level 44 (with max enchanting, alchemy and smithing) I just ran from ice wraiths.

Are you using two handed weapons or one handed weapons? If I'm going to use weapons, not magic, I use two handed weapons, because they can be seriously OP. Even if they are low level weapons (iron, steal, etc), they are good... Also have you thought of turning down your difficultly?
