Well...uh...wikipedia says it comes from the Latin word "Salmo" but when I type Salmon into a Latin dictionary, I get "Esicia." Horses come up as Equus ferus. Apparently caballus is domesticated and a second ferus denotes wild horses. So if he used to be a salmon, maybe some kind of combo of Salmo and Equus or Esicia and Equus?

Salmec? Or if you went long form, Salmoeqqus, maybe make the 'o' silent and use 'kus' for the qqus. "Sal-mee-kus."
