Two words: Shadowgreen Cavern.

I went there to find something for someone, expecting a typical cave. You know, dark and filled with bandits.
Imagine my surprise when the first thing I see is
a bunny in a forest environment

I've had an huge WOW moment yesterday. I needed to test out a new bow, so I go to the nearest dragon mountain thing.

the dragon first burned the hell out of me, so I used a couple of stolen potions, get back in the fight. As I charge the beast, I get a Cutscene. Nice I thought, expecting a climb to the beasty's head and kill him.

But wait, there's more: that scumbag dragon bites me, and trows me of the mountain. All in cutscene..

It's the first time an ancient dragon killed me  and how. I just sat here, and stare at the TV for 5 sec. and then decided to watch soccer instead..

One of my biggest wow moments was when I was playing the dawnguard questline and went to the place with all the shrines you can travel between(I forget what it is called, the vale?) and saw the beauty/size of that area. I wasted so much time just running around in there exploring. Also when I came upon the snow elf temple to Auriel I was stunned and had to stop for a minute just to take it in.

I'm not sure if this is a "wow" moment, but I thought it was kind of neat.
I was finishing up the Pieces of the Past quest with my Nord warrior when I was told to kill Silas.
My character is honorable, but I didn't really trust Silas. While I sat there looking at the options, eventually Silas just said that he wouldn't just let me kill him and attacked me. It was nice, because I didn't have to make that decision any more AND I got the dagger.

A Frost Dragon attacked Solitude (first time I've ever had a dragon attack in a town) and one of the guards got killed in the ensuing battle.

But then (before I'd discovered the body), another guard came to me and asked whether I knew anything about a murder that had apparently been committed. I was like o_O
Then when I made the discovery, I thought along the lines of "Seriously. A freaking dragon attacks the town, and you think I killed the poor man whose body is lying directly in front of the dragon('s skeleton). Wow, just wow."

I was on my barbarian taking down a Thalmor prisoner escort. I had killed the two shieldsman and saved the wizard for last. As I fought the wizard he said "Soon all Nords will be thralls to the Thalmor."

If you could tear bodies apart in Skyrim like you could Fallout, there would be very little left of that wizard in particular.

When I first discovered Mammoths and Giants. I had no idea they could turn hostile to you! There was a Mammoth blocking the path near Windhelm and I tried to get past it. However, the Mammoth turned hostile to me and it pissed of one of the Giants that were nearby. The Giant ran towards me and I said: "Come at me, bro. I kick your ass!"

That day I realized that one does not simply mess around with a Giant and his Mammoth.

I was in Riverwood trying to find good ol' Faendal for a sacrifice quest >:D
Suddenly a thief ran past me over to Alvor's forge and started using it.
It looked so damn funny while all the guards were just shooting arrows at him:D

My latest wow moment is kind of my own doing but I still think is cool: on my 14th character, up to level 23 now, and have yet to go to Whiterun. I look at my map and it's still shaded and undiscovered. I honestly didn't think I could resist. I love Whiterun. I love the shops, the shrines, the skill books here and there, the cheap house, the quick favors for Ysolda and Amren that get you easy skills points--it's all so covenient. Just as those sneaky developers had planned it. So far my adventurer has been doing just fine traveling between Riverwood, Falkreath, Morthal, Rorikstead, Dragon Bridge, Solitude and Dawnstar, and it's just made the game feel very different. It's also nice to be able to walk out the Riverwood Trader and not worry there's a dragon that's going to kill Alvor...again.

Now that I've said that, watch me run into some game-breaking problem due to my not having gone to Whiterun to talk to the jarl, so X,Y, and Z haven't been triggered, and it's screwing up the rest of this supposedly open-world game envirnment. Le sigh...

Maybe those those pre-release ads for the game should have said: "See that mountain? You can climb it! But only after you've finished Dragon Rising!"

My first 'wow' moment was after the first time I had beaten Bleak Falls Barrow. I didn't know which way to go and ended up at a elderly woman's shack. She seemed very harmless, and I picked up anything I could find around. I walked off to find a few Imperial Guards around a dead body. They attacked, and I ran, as I was to weak to take on 3 of them at once. I saw the elderly woman. She got up, summoned her familiar (I thought this was awesome, first time I had seen it), and within a few lightning strikes, they all lay dead. I ran up to her and she just said, "I'm just a poor old woman, dear. No need to bother yourself". I was all like "An elderly woman is stronger then me, Dovahkiin. DOVAHKIIN!

After the Greybeard's summoned me, I took the insanely long walk from Whiterun to Ivarstead. Literally took me about an hour to get there following sign posts. Along the way I encountered two bandit road blocks, an 'Old Orc' looking for a good death, an Argonian who threatened to 'Gut me like a fish', a frost troll and a crazy Wood Elf who attacked me without any warning. Following these crazy encounters I then had to climb the seven thousands steps all the while remaining awe struck by the sheer size and awesomeness of this game. I'd consider my entire play session tonight a 'Wow' moment!

I was making that same trek on my first playthrough. Along the way i encountered a dragon and giant in an epic fight. The dragon died and the giant started chasing me. I ran for ages until i got to Valtheim keep and saw it's large bridge so i went up there to hide from the giant. Little did i know it was a bandit camp, until i walked onto the bridge and saw a bandit chief coming for me. Soon i escaped both the bandits and giant to start traveling when suddenly an aspiring mage came to me and gave me his staff.

I soon found an Old orc like you did and later found a group of thalmor along the road who attacked me for questioning their hate of Talos and i had to run again...

Some vampire dude came to me asking me for a cure, i found some yellow, afflicted dude, a bunch of Alik'r guys were harassing some woman and i soon some guy offered me some skooma.

When i played skyrim for the first time, I met a bard on the way to Riverhood.I thought "bard" is cool in games,so i paid him some money for songs. Those songs were good especially "age of aggression" and I requested it fine times. When i left him,i felt good and enjoy the beautiful game scene. However, I encountered a lot of bandits on the road after a while. I hastily ran back because i did not know how to fight yet.A few seconds later,i met the
bard again and those evil bandits also saw him. I feel sorry about that, because i thought the bard might be killed.
A surprising scene which i'd never forgot occurred , the bard used powerful magic fight with those bandits and win! I was surprised and got many equips from the bandit's bodies happily in the end.
I think that is a pretty "wow" moment!

Would you share your little "wow" or "omg really?" or "holy crud that was cool" moments with the rest of us? All those tiny things that go into making this a supremely amazing and deep game.

I had one just recently, something small that knocked my socks off. I was getting into a carriage, and the driver, as part of idle chat, appropriately referenced the weather. An NPC. Noticed the weather. And mentioned it. DUDE.

I know, dumb nothing, but things like that are startling and incredible because of the depth they add to the game.

How 'bout you?

Returning Morthal to finish a go-fetch quest, a BloodDragon attacked and all the non-combattant NPCs went indoors(except the guards). After shooting several poisoned arrows, the dragon did one spectacular death-crashlanding just exactly along the stretch of the eastern road and stopped almost smack on the middle of
the town. But that is not the only WOW moment, as I approach the dead dragon, all the doors flung open as the afformentioned NPCs including the children ran to gawk and comment at the beast's carcass, which is something I would have done as a kid.
Its little touches like this that makes Skyrim come alive for me.

My wow moment was when I realised id have to search the whole of freakin blackreach to find some stupid plants that give me nothing but stupid alchemy stuff that i dont even like, but felt like i had to complete it due to my ocd about quests in my journal! CURSE BLACKREACH (I hate that place with a passion!)

But, on a positive note, one wow moment was when i killed a bandit that had been brought to back life by a necromancer, and as he died, for the last time) his last words were 'thank you'. This really impressed me that they would go to that much effort to express emotions behind each character helping to portray back story at every turn. I released him from their curse and allowed him to finally rest in peace. The facy that he isnt even vital to a story line shows the depth they went into when creating the game.

My wow moment was on my archer, when I had to kill Grelod the Kind.

Went into the back of her room where she was sitting and shut the doors quietly so the kids wouldn't see. One arrow to the back of her head and she was done. Problem is...she started to sink through the floor as she hit the ground, disappearing completely. I figured she'd somehow phased into the textures somehow and opened the doors to leave. No biggie.

I open the doors, and all I see are happy cheering kids, the matron lady tearing about like a headless chicken...and a dead Grelod rising up from the middle of the room.

Weirdest moment ever.

I just had a "Wow, the devs think of everything" moment.

Decided to do Dawnguard and finish it without deleting a save this time. I returned Serana to Harkon, and roleplay dabbler that I am, decided that surely by this stage my silly little elf should have seen all the people on the dinner table and heard all the slurply noises and would be starting to wonder if taking a vampire who knows she's a vampire hunter back home to her family's lair had been a wise move.

So she took Serana at her word about taking the lead and lurked up the top on the balcony, watching Serana and Harkon greet each other. Then Harkon asked who the stranger she'd bought into their hall was. Serana said I was her saviour, the one who freed her. I stayed up in my balcony without moving, assuming he'd walk up to me. Instead, Harkon said in this level, measured tone: "I am not known for my patience."

Needless to say, I was off that balcony and sprinting down to Harkon quicker than you could say: "Fus Roh Dah!"
