Can you ever create a camp? Or buy someplace you can store stuff? Maybe buy a house or little cabin?I always find myself hugely bogged down with just about everything I can get a hold of. It is just a bit much. I have a problem trading sometimes. The trader is sleeping or something most times. A lot of times I have to through away valuable things, which would really help me pay for training, if I could trade them in.

When you're out in the wilderness, can you start a fire, cook food, sleep etc? If you can how do you do it. Can you get a tinderbox or something? Where can I find bears to hunt? Any tips on hunting elk? Everytime I shoot one it runs away. I am an Argonian, but my sneak skill never increases, even though activated the thief stone.

Also, I am level 5 and came across a giant who smote me to ruin, with one stroke of his club. Craziest thing I ever saw in a game. This particular giant was not very friendly at all. How long will it be before I can go back and kick the hell out of this giant? And his friend in the distance?

Anyway, I am trying to slowly learn. Right now I have the love triangle going on and the elf archer is escorting me to some camp where I have to kill the barbarian leader. On the way is where I met the giant. Sorry for being such a noob. This is a great game though. Thank god my fiance loves her own video games, or I'd be in real trouble. BTW I play on Xbox 360 :D

Hokay...

To store stuff, your best bet at this point is to join a guild - you'll have a bed and a chest to store your stuff in. Just be careful to not wind up like this guy:

As for starting a fire, I'm not sure if someone has modded on PC to do that, but if you're playing on a console that's not an option. There are several camps scattered throughout the world though, most of them have fires and some have cook pots. As for hunting tips, best advice I can give is to work on your archery and sneak skills.

That giant...I would recommend just staying away for a while. They're ugly. How long all depends on how you build your character. However, if you get that archery and sneak skills up and get your hands on a decent bow, you should have no problem sneaking up on him and putting an arrow in his knee (HA!)

The learning curve on this game is big, especially if you played Oblivion, it took me FOREVER to understand the whole level-up perks, but once you do it's a lot of fun. My first character was just me playing through getting a feel, I got a little more adventurous with subsequent characters.

Happy questing!

Thank you for the advice the video represents me fairly well atm. Nice list of characters there. The Argonian character I created is more of a learning character. His skills also relate to Archery, Restoration and Alchemy. For my second character I want to be a warrior who ends up becoming a werewolf. Either that, or I was thinking of creating a strictly magical character a mage or conjurer. How about a bipolar Mage? That would be interesting.:mad::sadface::mad:, you'll never know how he will be. In any case, keeping to the magic path must be challenging indeed. I should have bought this game a year ago. Oh, I also have Oblivion and played for a few days before I got this. Skyrim fits me better though. It is far more realistic. If i have any more questions or concerns I'll get back to you.

That's ok, I forgot to mention you could always just try selling the loot lol...money is awesome. :)

Hone those archery skills...it comes in handy when fighting dragons (of course, I'm saying that cause Destruction stuff is so not my cup of tea and melee fighting a dragon is a good way to get eaten - true story). Restoration is always a handy skill to have, and alchemy is a lot of fun, and is very useful if you drink healing potions in the middle of battle like they're water like I do. I'm a royal penny-pincher, I like to make or find things instead of buy them. :)

The nice thing about this game is you can try stuff out based on your play style and experiment what works and doesn't work for you. Unfortunately, that means it's difficult to make a "how to survive in Skyrim without getting barbequed" guide. One piece of advice I can't stress enough: when you level up, spend your perks wisely. You can't change them once you use them! And you don't have to use them right away, you can just let them build up (I once got up to about 5 to spend cause I just kept adding to my Stamina and forgot about the perks cause I was usually in battle when I leveled up).

Side note: I LOVE Oblivion. Not as much as I love Skyrim, but Cyrodiil is just so much prettier...*wink*wink* Bethesda lol

Ok I have a question about Dragonborn. I did not want to have to start a new thread in that forum. Is this DLC ever going to be put on a disc? Perhaps down the line in a set for xbox 360? Like Oblivion has the DLCs added to it in the GOTY edition. I do not have xbox live. Even when I had my S console, I never used it. ATM I use my old soldier xbox 360, and I don't have the optional wireless adapter. I do have a router and modem for my pc. I also have a laptop, but do not know how to hook my wireless up to it. Anyway, it is too bad you cannot just pay to burn a DLC update disc or something. This is rather annoying. LOL! If it comes out in one package at a later time that would be great. I have plenty to do in the current game to keep me busy, in the meantime.

I hooked up my laptop and downloaded hearthfire to start with. I'll get the others later. In the meantime I want to learn to play better and get more experience. Right now I am almost level 10. A Brown Dragon attacked me on the way to see the greybeards, because I am a dragonborn. I fought a few times and got killed by fire twice and eaten once. What is the best way to fight a dragon? Does the scroll of harmony work. I tried it it did not seem to work. Perhaps I did not hold the trigger down enough. I have my housecarl Lydia, but we are severely outgunned by this thing.

I do believe dragons will resist the calm spells, they're just too powerful.

In regards to beating them, tactics. Though sometimes you just may not be strong enough, running is a definite option dude.

Anyways, keeping distance and using bows or magic can help, also hiding behind objects when it breaths fire/frost at you.

They'll get easier dude :D

HA HA!!! I never thought of running, but it would have probably been a good idea. In any case, what happened is that when it killed me a few times, after loading the save it did not come back. I simply rushed past that point and continued on. Thanks for the tips man. :)

You can always hook your XBox up to the router using an ethernet cable...might be something to think about depending on how all your stuff is set up at your place. When I first got my Xbox, I totally brought the whole setup down to where my router is and plugged it all in so I could get stuff downloaded lol.

I have to start over that sucks. I wish you could save your character or something. At least so you keep his experience.

Yes I have a wireless connection from my router, I just connect to xbox via ethernet. The wireless re
receiver is like 70 bucks. Crazy!

In the meantime, I have to wait to get the other expansions. Well I'll have plenty of early game experience.

What is the best way to increase my archery skill? With my first character I was having real trouble increasing it. I found an Imperial bow, that helped, but I could not get my rating to 19. Thanks for any help.

I screwed up and deleted my saves, thinking I had to start anew. I was not on my normal profile, it was my xbox live profile. I did not realize that fact. Oh well, no sense complaining, I started over as a dark elf.

Word of advice re. wireless receivers....if you're planning on buying one, don't buy it used. My brother and I both did it and we both wound up having to return them because they didn't work.

And getting experience before getting the expansions is a good idea anyway. You can't start Dawnguard until you're level 10 and Dragonborn will be difficult at lower levels (I've seen people advising to not start below level 20, I think that's good advice, my level 43 still gets her butt whooped from time to time).

After I am level 20 I can get the DLCs and not have to start over?

No Need to start anything over, you could always download DLC, you can only play Dawnguard once you get Level 10 so by that time you should have got enough experience.
Also, you said something about Houses, eh? the game dlc-free allows to buy a house in all holds by becoming a thane in a hold, becoming a thane in a hold allows to buy a house in that hold, you need to become thane in another hold so you can buy a house in it.
There is also Hearthfire DLC, which is for 5$ only, you don't need experience for anything for that, because it only adds the a ability to make your own house, buy land, then get materials and make the house room by room until it's finished, it also allows you to adopt children, the problem is that Hearthfire is buggy as hell, us PC Players were able to fix them using Creation Kit and Console Commands as for you Xbox 360 players...just make sure you got the latest patch to fix some of those bugs, but Hearthfire will still be buggy so i recommend you to surf the internet for Hearthfire bugs and how to avoid them.

Will do. I made a big oops and erased all my saves. It's ok though the first character was really for just getting a grasp on things. My new Dark Elf here will be something before the end. I named him Xanithor. Magicka will be his speciality. He will probably need to have a decent suit of light armor, and some weapon skills unitl he can wear robes full time, correct?

correct, but when using light armor you have to move all the time when fighting, because it protects you less then Heavy Armor, so you must avoid ALL enemy attacks if possible, and you will have to rely on a rock to protect from a Dragon's breath, but it allows some unique gameplay, dodging enemy attacks and using environment for your advantage is pretty fun, Heavy Armor doesn't allow for tactics like running in circles around your enemy and slashing him with your dagger at the same time.

Good Luck, and don't kill chickens if you haven't did it already

I was thinking of killing chickens, haven't tried it though. Thanks for the combat tips. I am going to download Dawnguard and Dragonborn today. Just to get it overwith. Hearthfire I will keep on there for now, but if it is too buggy, I'll just get rid of it. In anycase it will be quite some time before I can afford a house.

Oh my, that's like most of my characters.

I haven't seen that vid before and I laughed so hard I cried. Seriously, everything in that I've done. I admit--I'm one of those Skyrim hoarders who, when I reach my encumberment limit, go looking through my inventory for a wooden bowl, or a goblet, or a ladle, or tongs (that I inevitably picked up while grabbing all the ingots in Balimund's basement) to ditch. "Gloves? Where did I pick up gloves?" **drop**

And my first character, I hoarded tons of food and I had those same very thoughts about cabbages and clam meat...

How food never spoils in Skyrim aside, they really need to put an encumberment limit of storage containers. How ridiculous it is when the cupboard by my Breezehome fireplace can hold 83 iron ore, 57 corundum ore, 100 pelts from various animals, 48 dragon bones, 64 dragon scales, four dozen or so assorted ebony weapons looted off of Draugr Overlords, and the leather/hide/fur/iron/steel armor from every bandit I've killed in the game so far that I've been meaning to improve to boost my smithing skill and then sell to boost my speech skill?

With the Hearthfire home, you simply need 5000 gold to start, plus a little more to buy straw, goat horns and glass (and maybe a little more sawed logs) to create interior items--everything else you can mine on your property or elsewhere in Skyrim. But that 5000 gets you the land plus enough building materials to build a basic house and even without building the house you get one "safe" exterior container that you can store your stuff in.

5000 gold seems like a lot when you're a new player, but once you get the hang of it you realize it's pretty easy to earn coin in Skyrim, especially one you start making alchemy potions with ingredient you collect.

I'm really bad too...I've purchased so much real estate just so I can display all my crap...I bought Hjerim simply because it had a ton of weapons racks and mannequins...all my daedric artifacts, everything I got from Ulfric Stormcloak, all of it is displayed in that house. Oh, and all of my books, I collect skill books. As a matter of fact, the Oghma Infinium sat on a bookshelf on display for the longest time before I realised what it even was lol. I have a display case at Lakeview Mannor that for a while held nothing but a pile of gems in it...until I came home and they were all on the floor grrrrr. Now they're all in a strongbox. I'm working on getting my Speech up high enough so I can get the Master Trader perk so everyone has an extra grand for trading so I can sell off my stuff at the maximum price. What will I do with the money? Probably go buy another house...lol.

P.S. Killing chickens is AWESOME. Although I kinda admit, I'm mildly obsessed with doing it, I do it in every video game I play where I come across a chicken...
