Schoolwork Summer 2012

Album created by Rayven, May 29, 2012.

BookCoverDrafts.jpg
One draft of the book cover we're supposed to make. I don't have the words on the spine done yet. The left is the back of the book.
Start Dale, Raijin, dunklunk and 3 others like this.

It's great! My only suggestion is that there's just too much text on that back cover. Details like that are usually reserved for the inside flaps of the dust-jacket.

We have to put reviews and bios on the cover somewhere. I may shrink down that quote at the top to ease up some of the space constraints. The actual back cover of the copy of this book I have has all that and more! But it's boring. I know some folks are putting review sentences on the front as well but I didn't want to write all over the artwork. I'll have another design up here today since we had to do 2 drafts from 2 different sketches.

What's your medium of choice, Rayven? Looks like colored pencil, but it could also be crayon. Please confirm. Please confirm. (static) Please confirm. . . .Please. . .(static) . . .con. . .(static). . . .

Ahh, well the media for this piece is Prismacolor colored pencils on mid-grade drawing paper. It is not my personal favorite medium overall. But if I have to do colored pencil projects, the Prismas are definitely at the top of my list. I actually got a set of "Scholar" Prismas to try and I was very surprised at the quality. It's meant to be a more affordable student quality colored pencil.

Okay then. (Note to self: Mid-grade? Prismacolor? Dammit, is she kidding me?!) "Scholar" Prismas! Is that the name of a band you saw recently? All BS aside, Rayven, that's some good stuff. Excellent use of color. Now that I notice the clock in your illustration is pointing waaayyyy past my bedtime. . . .Good night.
