Jeg er stolt. Jeg er sterk.
In truth, I am still on my first play through and, after having downloaded 'Dawnguard' I now have an immensely huge depth of quests, lore, factions and guilds to investigate.

Thus far I have built a strong relationship with the Companions of Jorrvaskr and (although I am not invested emotionally as of yet) I have been in contact with the Dawnguard. I have fleetingly offered my services to the Stormcloaks, Blades and the Gray-Manes, but haven't yet even begun to scratch the surface yet.

I am (geekily) a man who MUST be invested emotionally in order to role play and make a faction my own. With this in mind, I am increasingly aware that my loyalties are being stretched...

And so, to the crux of my question:
Knowing that I am beginning to establish my 'world' around me within Skyrim for the very first time (so exciting) I must ask that you share your defining moments within the factions...why did you choose them? How did you make them 'your' own? Did you establish role play? What were your priorities? Was there a 'bigger picture' or did you simply indulge and evolve with the story? Did you focus on one faction at a time or move around and give them equal time?

I'm tremendously interested to hear!

One day, I asked Eorlund Greymane to tell me a little something about himself. He responded "I don't think so."

From that day forward, I joined the Companions, obtained the shards of Wuuthrad, destroyed the Silver Hand, and became the almighty Harbinger of the Companions.

Then I killed Eorlund. That was the force behind my motivation.

You are the kind of guy that is reflecting nationalsocialism(germanism). I see how you post your love for nords, and the nordic culture in this forum. Which is interesting - are you from a nordic country?, Or you are just a fan of the vikings and bla bla bla. I myself don't like the nordic culture that much, compared to roman. So in game i like the imperials much more, then the stormcloacks.

I am from North East England but my father is from Norway and my mother is part Scottish/Danish

Admittedly, I have an enormous pride in my Nordic, Saxon and Celtic roots.

They play a big part in helping me define who I am and what I stand for - both in real life and in Skyrim.

Completing the civil war on the side of the Empire for the second time was big for me. The first time I played the game I joined the Empire, then I joined the Stormcloaks on my second play through to see what they were all about. I ended up hating them so much I eventually deleted the character. So when I killed Ulfric after having joined him before...I don't know, it was a revelation moment that's hard to explain.

You look like a man, i'm sorry a boy with low self-esteem. You litterly must have been a bullied kid , that didn't know what group he belonged to. Unsuccessful in social-life?
Like all the pathetic people that are proud about being this or that are a bunch of idiots. Patriotism is just a way to control people and hide the weaknesses, i bet you are a one of the english-nordic-masturbater that is thumpning about his culture, warrior spirit w/e.
What is the point of being nationalistic, i mean it's good that there are dumb people like you that i can make fun of. But really when people like you are trying to reflect their origin on a video game that's just so pathetic, smells failor in life, stop being what you are not - you are just an angry video gamer that got bullied in school and had to find other ways to get succes by taking others pride into him.
I don't care if you are a mongol/arab/nordic/negro w/e. But when really living your life like you are going to wallhalla irl is really irritating me. I never will brag about my country w/e. Why? Becouse i don't wanna be associated with a bunch of morons. Even if there are some great people. That have got famous, doesn't mean i'm taking their pride to myself.

With that said. Like the greeks today that brag about their history are really idiotic, just like the pseudo new nazis talking about their superiority.

It's a big hammer.
I have made multiple characters to do the various guilds/factions. My very first character, I was playing a Nord 2-handed warrior and I, because I was mesmerized with the sheer awesomeness of the game, managed to get myself enrolled in the Thieves Guild. It was immediately clear to me that it just didn't make sense. I immediately rerolled the character and made sure I worked with what made sense.

To that end, I use RPing as my reasoning for doing something. Usually, I create a back story for my character and the reasons he/she would do something would typically fit that back story. For instance, an Imperial character that has a back story that her father was Imperial and her mother was Nord, for whatever reason she ends up in Skyrim, but doesn't pick sides in the Civil War because it would be like picking a parent. She joins the Companions because she's a sword-and-board type of warrior who just wants to make Skyrim a better place. My "defining" moment for the Companions is when...
Kodlak dies and I set out to get revenge.
This was when I said, "Yeah, I'm proud to be a Companion."

My character that joined the Thieves Guild...
wanted to restore the Thieves Guild's respect and shape it into something more honorable. Once you learn of the corruption and pitiful condition it's in, it makes sense.
However, my character had a back story that lent itself to being a sneaky thief of sorts.

I have one of these for basically every guild/faction, but I don't want to bore you with the reasoning/rationalizing that goes on in my mind, lol.

And, out of curiosity, Prometheus, are you from Sweden? Wouldn't that mean that you kind of live in Nordic culture? I'm not judging your preference for the Imperials or anything, I was just wondering.

EDIT: Nevermind that last bit. I didn't see the exchange between everyone while I was writing my post. I don't really want to get involved in that. Apologies.

Wow. I didn't realise that a little indulgence into cultural and historical preferences would provoke such criticism. I must say that I am awfully taken aback. I do not like to be called an idiot nor be cast as someone who must have been bullied at school and find little to get excited about in such speculation.

I have an avid interest in many areas of history (not merely Nordic, Saxon or Celt of which I feel I am proud, but not jingoistic - after all, cultural manifestations do not predicate nationalist tendencies necessarily) I read a great deal about Medieval history and the transition into the Renaissance and Enlightenment period.

I do not obsess or 'masturbate' over a particular cultural or historical aspect of my personal preferences, but in that being said, as a History teacher, it behoves me to have a fervour and passion for history.

Yes i'm from Sweden and i'm a swede, but that doesn't mean that i like braging about nordic warriors that are masturbating with their 30cm penises. Like the other idiots from my country and neighbour countries.
I understand that you propaganda washed people find this strange like '' wow you hate your country u suck go die '' but really have you reflected why you have to love your people and take for a couple of inviduals pride to yourself?

And i'm not even talking about the overrated thought about the vikings. Who mostly were merchants.
I do like vikings yes, but i don't wanna get credit for being Swedish viking, which i'm not.
But again all the weak minded people all over the world that are group masturbating to their national heroes w/e are just the majority.

Funny thing i noticed in this forum is all the pople that are backslapping to eachother, like they are obsessed to. This is kinda proving my point. The group mentality that freezes out people with other thoughts. And i guess i'm going to get bad rating(which i don't give a crap about)

I am frustrated and disappointed that you should hold me in such contempt and I only regret that you seem to have misunderstood my post, or at least the crux of it.

I am not a man for descending into mudslinging and so I will refrain from replying to any further posts you make in this thread and ask that you reciprocate in the same manner.

Thank you.

You said that you are playing a nord becouse you are a nord. I guess that means that you are a barbaric type of character. And from what i've read you don't play other races and types of classes. Becouse that doesn't reflect you irl.

So my dear viking king, what does make you a barbaric king irl that you have to play a nordic 2-hand-companian masturbater? Why could you not play a khajit thief.
That's whats bothering me, that you are nothing that is on skyrim irl. And didn't you say that you are a construction worker some time ago. And now you are suddenly a history teacher?

Man you come off sounding like a Dbag and anyway whee the hell did this come from anyway. Somebody can't be proud of their roots. I have read up about my family and its roots and I find it fascinating to see some of the things my elders did.

I've never given anyone a neg rating for a comment here, but that just crosses too many lines.

That said, I saw this thread earlier and had wanted to come back and comment, but you've pretty much ruined it for me. Thanks for doing your part in making this forum a hostile place where people don't want to contribute, dude.

I'd like you to share Saozig; it would be a shame if you or anyone else didn't contribute to this thread now. I am genuinely interested in how this community develops their in game, faction centric psyche!

It dictates how we play and the subsequent choices we make...our 'defining moments'

On my very first playthrough I did everything. Just cause it was there if I'm honest. I joined the Companions, the Thieves' Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, the College of Winterhold, sided with the Imperials, and just generallly did any quest that came my way. Now I have it on PC including Dawnguard and Hearthfire, the first character I made was a Nord Thief, and I joined the Dawnguard, my Roleplay story was that she got caught with a load of goods she'd stolen from various noble houses in Cyrodil, she never kills without a reason, she avoids conflict if she can, and only does a quest where she can earn the most gold.

My second character was more of an evil mage with a speciality in Destruction Magic (now level 100 in Alteration thanks to Telekinesis and the ArmourFlesh spells.) I chose the Vampires over the Dawnguard, cut my magical teeth (so to speak) playing through those quests and the College Quests, once I was Arch Mage and finished with that Questline, I joined the Dark Brotherhood to offer my services. My character has no qualms about burning your house down if you don't give her the answer she wants to hear, and she's training her daughters to be powerful mages like her.

I'm not really emotionally involved in the game, though just today when I was playing, I thought I'd lost Marcurio after a particularly tough battle with some Forsworn, so climbing down a mountain on my way to some city, I saw him running down the other side, I was very pleased to see him. :D

Well, Serana is developed well in Dawnguard, as well as a sect of people one would not link to vampires (vague to avoid spoilers). The thieve's guild quest line made me feel for the characters. The Dark Brotherhood was nauseating as usual. The College was meh, same with the Companions. The Lost to the Ages side quest in Dawnguard had a great story with a compelling cast IMO. The Ancient Knowledge quest had a very unique method of story telling as you progressed through the dungeon.

Well, i'm a farmer from Georgia in real life, So I play an Orc. Because i'm damn proud of my ancestors.

And my most defining moment in Skyrim (forums) is telling everybody to chill. Prometheus100c is not here for logical discussion or debate. He just wants a reply. He is a skilled troll, he may just seem like someone with a strong opinion. But in the end he is just trying to get a rise. Completely ignore his post and go on with the threads topic and he will soon leave. I should know, Ive been encountering forum trolls for years now. I'm a bit of an expert. Trolls can be fun to mess with sometimes, but this one is just a peckerhead.

Now watch what I do when he responds with an angry comment. I will not reply at all. I limit myself to only one post per troll.
