Vanilla or mod first?

    I just got morrowind for pc. It was on like 50% sale on steam...

    I probably won't be playing it anytime soon because of Skyrim and whatnot but I am wondering if I should play the game on vanilla or mod it up before I start playing. I have no idea what kind of mods there are for morrowind so some general ideas on what mod is essential would be nice. Thanks
